Kirk Cousins has consistently good stats too....I never wanted him. watson is great ... no argument. But he’s not in that elite category like Peyton or Brady where he can carry a team to playoff success. Last year proved that. He had great stats...top three probably. So what? The team won four games. I would love to have him, but the cost that some are throwing around (fuck Peter King) are crazy and would not be a good deal for us in the state were in now. If we were closer and had a better roster, then maybe it makes sense, but we are like a year (maybe two) behind that curve.
I don't think you can separate the two. If your defense is bad it means you're coming from behind a lot and that limits what plays you can run. We've seen here how a bad offense forces the defense to look bad by being on the field constantly. One way it would be better, is that the Jets will have one of the top QB's in the league. What happens from there depends on Douglas and Saleh, but at least the Jet QB drought will be solved.
That's what I'm worried about....fans wanting ANYONE other than Sam. And honestly, probably all 5 of the QBs coming out would qualify. But being 'better than Sam' is a pretty low bar. It would be sad if JD burnt our #2 on a QB who's 'better than Sam', but not good enough to get us all the way there. That'd set us back another 3-5 years. And probably cost us JD too. Chris Simms on PFT said he's looking at these QBs, and Fields/Wilson are looking really good. So hopefully, if we go that direction, it will be our last QB for at least a decade.
But this is what makes you come across as being a bit odd ( I'm struggling for the right word, without wanting to appear rude or insulting) How was he not? He was fucking miles better than Sam last season in all facets of QB play he was superior by a country mile. So just what are you saying exactly?
If someone can't see the difference between Sam Darnold and Watson, then there really isn't much of a discussion to be had.
If you don't understand the difference between a 25 year old QB with the highest completion percentage ever, 2nd highest QB rating ever, and just all around one of the most productive QBs by age 25 ever, who won his division in both of his 2 full seasons without a coaching change, and SAM DARNOLD, you are hopeless.

I want the Jets to trade for Watson because he's a true FQB. I also want the Jets to trade for Watson because I am absolutely positive that him in NY would be a fantastic time for Jets fan, and it will be really enjoyable seeing the posters here who currently downplay his impact get slapped in the face with his undeniable awesomeness when he's doing superhuman, heroic things in green. Unfortunately I don't think it will happen in the end, but MAN would it be a great time to be a Jets fan.
He’s a quarterback. He led the league in passing yards and only threw 7 interceptions and he did it after they traded Hopkins away. What could another qb have done to win more games there? They were 4th in the league in passing yards and 2nd to last in interceptions. They weren't a top offense their o-line was terrible and Watson produced despite that. Was Watson not blocking well enough in the run game? They struggled to win games because they gave up more yards per game than everyone but the Jags and the Lions. Was he supposed to go in on defense too? They fired their coach midseason and got rid of the coach they replaced him with as soon as the season ended. The Jets could sign Thuney and immediately give Watson the best o-line he's ever played behind. The Jets defense is already better than what the Texans had last year and they will still have draft picks and cap room to improve on both sides of the ball.
One of my favorite parts of this site is watching people slowly realize that he is a waste of time and should be viewed at as nothing more than entertainment. We are up to like 5 people in the last week I think.
