I believe there are people that actually think this is a fair trade. We basically piss away a promising receiver we have not had forever, a pro bowl beast young defender, a bunch a premium picks so we can have Watson and a bunch of nobodies to play with. But wait, as soon as he arrives he will attract so much talent that we can open up the purse and get premium vets at a discount because they want to play with Watson. Total unfounded BS. Players ( which by the way includes defensive players) want to go to a team that is a winner, where they have the best chance to go all the way. A team that succumbs to such a stupid one sided trade requiring years to beef up will never be a winner, and will never build a winning team thru the draft. Watson will be whining like shit in two years and wanting out, rightfully so, because he can not win without adequate talent around him, as he proved it in Houston last year. Peter King trade is laughable at best.
They were the 16th ranked offense. It wasnt that great. Im not saying he sucks but he didnt exactly wow with that talent around him.....and he supposedly had a better offensive line. So what would anyone expect here without a substantial upgrade? Yes he puts up yards, yes he puts up a high number of passing tds But 18th overall offense in points And 13th overall in yards You didnt post the numbers in context. This is the context that goes with them. Youre giving up a haul for a guy you dont do it to be middle of the pack. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
In other words, you could call Watson a stat padder or a guy who puts up empty stats during garbage time, which for the Texans was every second of every game this past season. But I still like Watson, just not enough to trade the farm for him when there are some really good QB prospects in this draft.
Its just lunacy to see this aby other way. Youre really hoping to attract FA be rrally good for a year or 2 or 3 and thats it, the cap will catch up to you. Back to square one. Now im fairly confident Douglas wouldn't trade stupudly for Watson so that doesnt concern me. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Completely agree. If we already had a solid foundation of talent on this team, then you could justify giving up a ton for Watson, but we don't. And like you said, in order to build around Watson it would cap us out and we would end up back at square 1 in 2 years. I am just as confident as you that JD will not make a stupid Watson trade. Only the media is pushing this nonsense about giving up the farm for him.
Peter King will only come up with the offers that hurt the Jets the most because he is an unabashed Patriots fan.
I want Watson but that is a ridiculous trade, who were these experts that thought it was good, a good trade for the Texans no doubt about that.
I'm not willing to argue with you but I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous, he may not have won many games which is undoubtedly true but his personal stats would make him the best QB we have ever had, so how is that not WOW exactly. As for context, my reply was to you when who said 'he had limitations' and then also said he needs 'TOP' WR's to make him look good, that is when I posted the stats to show you were probably wrong. It really had fuck all to do with anything else you have jus wrote in that last post, it certainly had nothing to do with how much of a haul we would have to give up for him. It was only because you said he had limitations and then doubled down on that with an outrageous claim that he needs star WR's to look good, both wrong btw.
If the Texans were a top ranked team as they were a few years ago, then their QB would probably not be on the market. There were a lot of reasons for the poor Texans season. They lost their best receiver, and one of the league's best, in Hopkins. Their defense was atrocious, ranked near the bottom in most categories. After a 1,000+ yds rushing season by Hyde, their top runner ran for only 600+ yds last season. Still, Watson had his best season so far in almost every category. True, Watson would be coming to a team with a similar lack of talent which makes me wonder why he'd want to come here. Nevertheless, he may trust Douglas to build the team with input from him. Also, coming to NY would make him an instant media star and afford him other commercial and entertainment opportunities that he couldn't get in Texas. He's supposedly a very smart guy (finished his degree in 3 years.) Edit added: Another reason he may want to come here is to play for coach Saleh who a lot of players seem to like.
Listen you can choose to not argue with em and thats cool, but dont tell me im wrong when i provide context to your information. He does need stud wr. He lost that and he was not able to win games like he did previously. Is he a bad qb no, is he appropriate for this team...no, not where we are currently. You dont mortgage the future for one player when the rest of the team sucks, it makes no sense whatsoever and is the reason GMs get run out of town in 3 years or so. Im am doubling down on what i said because his play supports that. If we had a hopkins or someone like that, cool bring him in for the right price, but you dont give up multiple picks and your star defensive lineman whos show markwd improvement for a qb to essentially gut your team again. Again offensively and only passing, very middle of the pack. You dont give up the house for that. I like Watson, a lot, but not for this team now. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Ok youre telling me these things like i dont know them. I know their defense was atrocious, but their offense wasnt top 10 either He threw for a lot of yards and tds, but still they finished middle of the pack offensively. Which is exactly my point.....this team is exactly the same as the one hes leaving talentwise!!!!!! So how is it going to be better here? Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Funny how fans think Sam isn't worth squat b/c he only won 2 but Watson is worth a king's ransom and then some b/c he won 4. All the excuses they make for Watson (terrible FO, terrible HC, terrible team) they refuse to afford to Sam, who's been playing in the exact situation.
Douglas should be fired if he makes that deal. It's funny, what makes these analysts think the Texans have ANY negotiating power? They have none. Especially with the Jets. Watson doesn't want to be there. Everyone knows it. It will get ugly. Everyone knows it. The Jets have MANY QB options. Everyone knows it. The Jets are not desperate for a QB. It is quite the opposite. You only make offers like that if you are beyond desperate. The Jets hold all the power if they choose to negotiate with Houston.
I just think everyone is so tired of losing they just want that feeling of having a chance to actually win something. I dont fault anyone for that. I dont think Watson is good for this team as it stands. Im not saying hes bad, but not worth it for the long term Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
I gave you the conversation timeline of events, I will do so again if you require them? The stats were in context to you saying he needs good WR's, the stats had nothing to do with your further posts and claims of giving up a haul for Watson, that is irrelevant to anything I put as I have already explained. So no further context was required, I countered your claim with Watson's stats from last season and the current WR crew of the Texans, none of which can ever be called 'top' receivers, to your frankly ludicrous claim that he needed 'top' WR's to look good, all evidence points to you being wrong on that matter. and again I couldn't give a monkey's about the bolded parts in the above quote as these parts are not relevant as to why I posted a reply to you in the first place and they are still not relevant to any argument about Watson needing good WR's to look good. Do you understand this now, it isn't really that complicated, though you are making it appear so.
Boatload of picks is nice. It’s picking the right players with those picks that matters. Who do u think will offer a boatload and what do u think that’s is?
Oh please, stop it. It really has nothing to do with the two wins, that was mostly on Gase and his shitty play calling. Watson is a massive upgrade on Sam, it would be utter stupidity to think anything else.
You put stats outbof context, and like i said before and ill say again...they mean nothing. Yes he need top recievers. Cool he threw for 4000 yards cool he had 33 tds But the team averaged 24 points a game. So let me explain it to you since you need it broken down for you Team stats were very middling, thats with "better" talent 24 points a game isnt bad, but not works what the trade would require Yes he needs top recievers, why because our defense is bad, our running game is bad and mediocre recievers didnt win them a lot of games....when was he most successful? When he had a top WR. Why was that, because the talent of the recievers does matrer too. That team played Jacksonville 2 times....the only team literally worse than this team They lost to a Burrowless Cincinnati team (defense sucked that game, yes im aware) Many of their tough opponents he barely manages 20 points a game. Yes he needs a stud reciever to really be able to take his team to the next level Obviously all those yards didn't translate to wins and points, so who breaks that open? A stud reciever But are you getting it now? Its a fucking team sport!!!!! One QB isnt making this team 14-2 Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
