I was fully expecting the gang bang orange the other night, got that one wrong. And no green pants, as per my request. I meant to thank the Jets for that. Thanks, Jets!!
Brady has always struggled against Miami, specifically playing in Miami, for whatever reason. He's 7-5 overall against the Dolphins and 2-4 against them @Miami. His overall numbers for the 12 games are very pedestrian as well: 182-329 1878 yards 16td 11int I don't think anyone is disputing that Miami has a good defense. The problem with your comparison is that Pennington played badly even though his team won. I'm just not sure where you're trying to go with this.
All I'm saying is that QBs aren't numbers machines, they are human. Even the best will have their bad games and teams they struggle with. It doesn't make them bad QBs and it doesn't mean they are unqualified to get a team to the "next level", whatever that is. Brady being the proof of that, as good as he is. Pennington, while of course not quite with Brady's resume (or team or coaching staff or kicker until maybe now), also fits this description.
I think the point is Chad was puking on the sideline during the first half, came back and had a solid 2nd half. At least I think thats how the thread was started...
Since 2002 Chad is 9-16 against teams that finished the season .500 or better. Does that sound like the type of QB to you that is going to take you to a SB?
How is it Chad takes responsibility for all 25 of those games? I guess he does play defense and special teams after all!!! Football's not a team sport... nah
Am I in the wrong thread or were people crowing a few pages back about how Pennington was 30-22 as a starter and the Jets can't get rid of him because he's a winner? There's so many of these threads I may be getting mixed up. Regardless, I'm curious how you measure the success of the QB if it's all just a team sport?
In all fairness to Chad, he's also had two shoulder surgeries since 2002. In any event, that was then and this is now. If Chad were to come back in August after an offseason of serious strength conditioning, who's to say that he could not take us to a SB if you give him a cohesive O-line and a kick-ass running game?
I don't understand this at all. The entire point made by people who support Chad is that while his numbers aren't great, he just wins. That was true in 2002 (when he was 6-3 against teams with records of .500 or better), but since then, the team is amazingly great when he starts against bad teams, and does poorly when he starts against good teams. You can't point to what a great winner he is, and then ignore that that hasn't been the case against good teams for four years.
He got us to a kick for the AFC title game with his arm falling off, so I think when healthy and with a decent team, I'll take my chances with him over most guys.
I didn't say it was purely a team sport but you put all 25 of those games on Chad which is wholely unfair... And I'm not one to sit and break down numbers... In my opinion Chad has had alot more good games than bad, good games in the playoffs... that's how I measure a QB
Since there are more bad teams then good teams in the NFL I'd probably agree with your assessment. Though I would dispute the "alot" part.
The Vikings have an excellent run defense and the Pats have a very good run defense. Both have middling pass defenses. The Bills pass defense is quite a bit better then either of these teams.
I think you help make my point here... "That was true in 2002 (when he was 6-3 against teams with records of .500 or better), but since then, the team is amazingly great when he starts against bad teams, and does poorly when he starts against good teams." He makes the team amazingly better against poor teams... but are you saying he never has a good game against a +.500 team he's they've lost to? How about Indy & NE this year? He didn't lose the games the Defense did. Plus he's had his share of bad games against bad teams as well... All I'm saying is he has more good games than bad
It's funny how the story of that game has been turned around in so many ways. There is no question that Brien missed two field goals. I also believe that Herm's decision to take the knee was ridiculous, but let's not go through all that again. What is also true is that the reason the Jets were in that game was the defense, not Chad. He did not have a good game at all - he averaged 5 yards per passing attempt, and had one INT and no TDs. The Jets scored 14 points on returns - Santana Moss' 75-yard punt return and Reggie Tongue's 86-yard interception return. Even if Brien had made one of those FGs, the offense would have scored a grand total of 6 points. Pittsburgh had a great defense and excellent special teams that year, and the only reason the Jets had a chance to win that game was that their defense and special teams matched them.
And we have a so-so run game. Teams plan against our passing game. I highly doubt opposing teams are saying " We need to gameplan aginst Kevin Barlow."
