I heard an interview with a Utah sportswriter who said this was due to BYU valuing older players who have gone on mormon missions for their captain spots.
It's a "dumb" comparison. It has nothing to do with Wilson. Of course teammates tend to publicly defend their teammates, and it doesn't prove or disprove anything. But aside from his teammates, Wilson had coaches and sportswriters countering the phony "character" rumors. Instead of coming up with empty comparisons, how about providing some actual substantive proof of your claim that Wilson has character issues?
There isn't. That's why they're called "rumors" and "speculation." Some of you guys are awfully sensitive and defensive over disagreement.
I agree that the teammate/coach defenses are essentially meaningless but the sportswriter I heard strongly disagreed with the character issues thing and I'm not sure what motive he'd have to lie about that.
I'm not the one who used the word "dumb" regarding a post. And aren't you one who challenges others for not having facts and statistics to back up their claims? The posts you've been making to try and knock down Wilson don't match your usual quality.
He was a captain. One tweet said he wasn't but his coaches said he was and the C on his jersey said he was. https://images.app.goo.gl/s38g2JKqqjkc1bZg9
BYU is a little different: most captains there are folks coming from a mission. This was already addressed in depth by Jay Drew who covered Utah sports for many years. There simply aren't any real red flags when it comes to character. I think the shoulder injuries and size are the biggest concerns with Zach. I am waiting to see his measurements and Jets need to do thorough medical evaluation as well.
contrails and kurt, that is how a message board is supposed to work. guys respectfully disagreeing and understanding its not their job to change another guys mind. love reading the opinions of you both.
seems to really be a strong disinformation campaign out there right now, depicting Wilson as a "Josh Rosen/Johnny Manziel (minus the drugs lol)" type of aloof, selfish, prima donna.
Happens every year. A team picking later really want him, so they start planting false flags in the media, hoping the kids falls to them.
See the video I posted earlier where Jay Drew, who is deseret news writer who covers Utah sports for many years went into this at length. Basically folks coming from mission typically get captainship at BYU, and Zach initially didn't get it, but was part of leadership council. Later on when one of the folks got injured during the season and his spot became open they did they vote for open spot and Zach became a captain. There is NOTHING to this, as simple as that, not sure how else to say this.
Basically you can't change someone's belief unless they want it to change. Belief is immune to facts or logic. Asked numerous times to provide any factual support to these allegations, the Anti-Wilson Believers have been unable to. They just want to believe what they want to believe. I've taken the bait more than I want to, and I can't say that I won't again, but I'm not going to waste any more time or thinking to try and change minds that are closed.
I'm an anti Wilsonite. I think that thge teanns he's faced are weak and he has no business going in thhe first round.
He was made captain AFTER the starting TE had a season ending injury the first game of the season. So yes he was a captain BUT why wasn’t the starting QB elected a captain prior to the season? Maybe it’s a BYU tradition to have kids as Captains that went on missions.... maybe. However; I’m a long time Jets fan and dubious of absolutely fucking everything.
BYU bestows the honor of Captain on students who've returned from their mission with at least 2 wives. When the TE got injured, BYU president offered Wilson the honor if he agreed to take a second girlfriend. It all worked out. Zack got a larger hottub for his dorm room to accommodate the new g/f and he got the C. Alls good!
You can say BYU played a bad schedule, Wilson had a clean pocket, he’s got concerns (size, injuries, attitude, etc.)... heck, I’ve said all these things myself, but then I watched all his games and it changed my mind.... The bottomline for me is that Zach Wilson’s tape is the best in this class + he does things from a physical and mental standpoint no other Qb can do in this class. I don’t know it he is the next Mahomes in the NFL, but he’s a similar college Qb for sure... His pro day is on Friday and we’ll see if he checks the boxes... I believe he is going to be a Jet.
