Nah man, Flacco is a mardy cunt that won't help the rookie at all, we need a friendlier vet that will take pleasure in bringing on the rookie, like Mccown did.

Flacco looks like a guy that would sooner stab him in the back than help him, I think if it is the rookie route we go, then I would take a punt with Bleathard, who at least knows the likely system that we are going to, knows Saleh and the some of the other coaches on top and in the long run will be a serviceable backup and under 2m a season.

McCown helped Darnold become the worst ranked QB in the NFL

If the Jets can get #50 or #51 from the Bears or Redskins, I would do that in a heartbeat.

McCown played his worst football in his career with the 2018 Jets. Joe Flacco played his worst football with the 2020 Jets.

Teddy Bridgewater looked worse than Darnold, which is why traded him without worry...

There’s definitely more to Darnold sucks than people realize... the 2018-2020 Jets have had really bad offensive talent + bad coaching.

With that, at this point, it’s better to move on at Qb... rookie contract, fresh start, and compensation for Darnold...

Overall, I think (like Mangold) Darnold got a raw deal...

Well, that is blatantly not true though is it, he had one season with Sam and in that season everybody thought we still had a promising QB, then hello Gase.

McCown played his career-best with the Jets in 17 though.

True Darnold helped himself become the 34th ranked QB in the nfl in a 32 team league, nothing but excuses for this guy

Again what has this got to do with anything that has been said?

I couldn't give a fuck for McCown tbh but I really don't want Flacco back next season in any scenario and certainly not if we get a rookie.

Have you got out of the wrong side of the bed today or something?

You have dragged this conversation so far away from the actual point it is unbelievable.

No, I said he had a career year with the Jets in 17 in reply to a guy saying he had the worst year of his career in 18 (which was true)

I would imagine what kept him in the league so long was the fact he was a competent backup and a decent fella to have around, hence why even after the Jets he still got other teams to sign him.

Nice career if you can get it.

I agree that Edge is valuable enough to take multiple swings early in the draft at the position, but not in this draft. None of the Edge prospects in this draft have more than one season of elite production. Instead, they are ranked as high as they are due to speed/athleticism, potential/ceiling, and one elite season.

The top draft prospects in this draft are:

    Gregory Rousseau, Univ. Miami - 6'7", 265; 2018 - 5 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2019 - 54 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed sat out 2020 Rust? Development?

    Jaelen Phillips, Univ. Miami - 6'5", 266; 2017 - 21 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2018 - 20 tackles, 1 sack, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2019 - injured; 2020 - 45 tackles, 8 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 0 passes defensed; injury history

    Kwity Paye, Michigan - 6'4", 272; 2017 - 5 tackles, 1 sack, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2018 - 28 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defensed; 2019 - 50 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 0 passes defensed; 2020 - 16 tackles, 2 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; didn't get to play many games in 2020

    Joseph Ossai, Texas - 6'4", 253; 2018 - 20 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 0 passes defensed; 2019 - 90 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 interceptions, 1 pass defensed; 2020 - 54 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 passes defensed; OLB?

    Patrick Jones II, Pittsburgh - 6'5", 260; 2017 - 7 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2018 - 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 0 passes defensed; 2019 - 42 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed; 2020 - 44 tackles, 9 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 3 passes defensed

    Hamilcar Rashed, Jr., Oregon St. - 6'4", 235; 2017 - 6 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 passes defensed; 2018 - 52 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 3 passes defensed; 2019 - 62 tackles, 14 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defensed; 2020 - 23 tackles, 0 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defensed; Played fewer games in 2020?

    Quincy Roche, Univ. Miami - 6'3, 245; 2017 - 31 tackles, 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles; 2018 - 57 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles,1 pass defensed; 2019 - 49 tackles, 13 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 6 passes defensed; 2020 - 45 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed

    Carlos Basham, Wake Forest - 6'5", 285; 2017 - 24 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 3 passes defensed; 2018 - 64 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed; 2019 - 57 tackles, 11 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 passes defensed; 2020 - 28 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defensed; played fewer games in 2020

    Chris Rumph II, Duke - 6'4", 235; 2018 - 25 tackles, 3 sack, 0 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed; 2019 - 47 tackes, 6.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 3 passes defensed; 2020 - 53 tackles, 8 sacks 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defensed

Only Rousseau, Rashed, Roche and Basham had one season with over 10 sacks. Looking at production Ossai looks more like a 3-4 OLB. Paye must be a terror vs the run to be ranked so high. He certainly hasn't had many sacks. Rashed played against inferior competition. Again, Rousseau and Paye are the only two worthy of a 1st round pick imo. I'd use a 3rd or 4th if Jones, Rashed, Basham or Rumph are still available, but that's it. I think there are better offensive players that can be taken in the 1st & 2nd rounds. Rousseau might be the exception, but we need to take a QB instead of him.

two things here… Waiting until the end of March to try and trade him is going to hurt his trade value. You risk the market completely drying up that far into free agency. And the second thing is that this should tell you just how serious they are about potentially keeping him. Everyone has been so quick to write off the possibility but it is a very real possibility and it always has been since the beginning. You don’t operate on this timeline if you are trying to move on without question.

i think this sounds very much in line with how we’ve seen JD operate. Deliberate, methodical, careful, analytical...but not afraid to make a big move once he’s done his research and made up his mind based on facts. It also lines up with what we heard about him during our GM search process...a guy who collects info and feedback, listens to all the people in the room, and then makes up his mind.

so when I see this it makes sense to me....JD is reviewing all options, including how the rookies stack rank against both Darnold or other vets, lining up the cost and opportunity costs of rolling with Darnold or not, and then will make up his mind.

I get the thinking of waiting too long may impact value, but I don’t think it’s a huge impact....the only remaining real impact will be what happens with Watson...after that it’s all kind of interchangeable 2nd tier guys. JD has shown that he’s a pretty shrewd trade negotiator, so I don’t think he’ll give up Sam for peanuts if that’s what it comes to....he’s under no pressure to move him at all, and I think that with us holding the 2nd overall pick, he’ll have the strongest hand at the table and will be able to play it wisely.

WTF has Joe Douglas been doing for months?

The front office should have a pretty good evaluation of Sam Darnold and the upcoming rookies by now. I think (hope) Rapaports tweet is just BS
