Are you just using 2022 because it is expensive and why are you not adding the 10m for 2021 and calling it 45m over 2 years?

for just 13.75m a season extra over the first two years I think I will take the sure thing QB tbh.

Yeah, most people discount that first cheap year. But it still adds into the average of the 4 year contract. Also we can easily rework his contract since the Texan are paying the signing bonus. It will average to less that 30 million a year which is great for a top 5 QB.

You really don't think when an org fires its entire coaching staff and GM and brings in all new people that gives fans/players hope? There's only like 5 or 6 teams that sell tickets on proven production. The remaining 25 teams sell tickets based entirely on 'hope' (NY Jets and Texans at the top of the list).

Do you think the texans would take him for the 23rd and a second rounder next year?

If I had to guess, I would guess Joe Douglas' offer is far less than people think right now (if he even made one). Something like the #2 overall pick, and Seattle's #1 in 2022. That is completely fair too. If I was Houston, I would do it. Draft Watson's replacement (Wilson/Fields), and then get a bonus 1st round pick in 2022.

Evidently, they ARE that stupid. I get that they don't want to trade their great QB, but they have screwed up, alienated him, and they need to accept that fact, move on, and get the best deal for him they can. They need to plan their future as do other teams. This is the time his value is at its highest. If they wait until FA is over, most of the teams that would have had interest will have already moved on and made plans with other QBs. No other teams can offer what the Jets and Dolphins can offer. The Dolphins have Tua. At some point, they'll just decide to roll with Tua. That will pretty much just leave the Jets. That is if they don't decide to just take a QB at #2 and keep Sam as the veteran insurance for this year. The Texans could wind up looking at Watson sitting out, their rebuild delayed a year, and the Houston fanbase and media killing them for not going ahead and making the trade. Next year, Watson's value will probably go down as the Texans would then be desperate to move him so they could begin their rebuild, and a number of other teams would have taken QBs in this year's draft. Thus the pool of teams interested in Watson would be smaller. The cap would be larger, so more teams could be interested or some different teams that couldn't trade for him this year could get in the bidding, but after he sat for a year, unless the team trading for him still got that $10 million season, that could prevent teams from signing him. What kind of shape would he be in after sitting for a year? How long would it take him to shake the rust off? He could also suffer some injury working out and trying to stay in shape. A lot of things can happen in a year.

There is definitely a cross section of paying fans that are ignorant and don't understand the reality of what happens with the team until numbers start appearing the loss column during the regular season. That has nothing to do with your previous post that was painting a completely different picture of the Texans FO and the Watson situation from what we know so far.

Instead of number 2 and seattles first for 2022 do you think we could give the 23rd and seatles 2022

Zero chance unfortunately. The #2 pick is the only leverage we have to get a trade done because the Texans can get their QB in the draft.

Most likely we'll need to offer up the #2 pick. But that's assuming Miami is in the mix offering their #3. Pretend for a min that Miami has decided to build around Tua, and they're out of the running. At that point, we can offer Sam Darnold and the picks we got for Jamal Adams, nothing more, and no other team can beat/match that. Two 1sts, a 3rd, and Sam. Texans can still say "no", but then they're stuck with a QB who refuses to play for them. If Miami bows out, Texans may have no choice but to take the Jets offer. Long shot, but the whole thing is a long shot.

Anything's possible, but I really think the Texans don't trade Watson unless they get the #2 (#3 in Miami's case). I don't think they can justify it to themselves, let alone to their fans, that they're dumping a legit Top 5 Qb in his prime without having a great shot to replace him in the draft.

Again, most likely you're right. Texans would be insane to trade away Watson. BUT...I just don't want the Jets to compete against themselves. Once our offer passes what other teams can offer, that's it. Don't keep upping it. Give the Texans the best offer they get, then sit back and let them stew.

...and if they decide to keep Watson and we decide to keep Sam, we can try for a do-over in 2022.

I agree with not overpaying, but unless Douglas possesses occult powers and can trick the Texans into taking something less, I think the #2 will be a part of any package.

And while I think trading for Watson with a reasonable package is the best solution to the 50 year QB hole of the Jets, I'm not so sure Douglas thinks that.

True. You always pick the young guy with upside over the vet with an ironclad contract and no way out.

2022 is the second cheapest season over the next 4.

Probably should mention that the vet is a top 3 QB at age 25.

If Watson gets traded, there’s almost no guarantees money on his deal.
