Well he had a no trade clause which scuppered the bears higher offer. I think we can get a first for Sam, even if we have to take a contract back. He's 23, a good guy, and we can send him anywhere we want. I honestly think the league thinks more of Sam than Wentz. It's the Adam Gase effect. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Wentz is 28, has had an ACL,LCL, back vertebral fracture and concussion from 2017-2020. Dead cap salary of $25.4M... With that the Eagles likely will net a 2022 1st and 2021 3rd... Would not surprise me to see Darnold go for a 2021 first.
I'm be stupified. One thing Wentz did was play well at one point in his career. Can't say that for Sam. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I hope I'm as wrong as you are. But I'll be shocked if it's not a conditional 3rd that would escalate to a 2nd.
Why would the 49ers want him for high draft pick We have watched sam for 3 yrs, he does not read the field well at all. I was watching tapes of some of our wideouts today(injury). They were wide open at times, most of the time and he did do not see them.Maybe he was thinking too much .but it was bad. The 49ers are a team that can win now. Sam is way too much of a project
2018 was a top quarterback class, there were three franchise guys in it (Mayfield, Allen, and Jackson). That's the most since 2012 when there were four (Luck, Tannehill, Wilson, and Cousins). It's just unfortunate that Darnold hasn't worked out for us.
From the Stafford trade to Wentz it does not look good for the Jets getting a 1st or even a 2 plus for Sam unless we are talking future picks. While Stafford returned a future first and a 3rd this year the the total compensation for him was only equal to the 43rd pick in the draft. Wentz gets a 3rd and a future 2nd. I hear all the talking heads saying we are going to get a lot but these two trades do not look good for us getting a haul.
2018 - youngest rookie ever to start 2019 - 32nd ranked oline and wasn’t terrible all things considering 2020 - 29th ranked oline (disaster season but no worse than Wentz really) Adam Gase + Qb history... enuff said If you believe the rumors 5 teams have already been in contact with the Jets about Darnold + more are on the horizon they say... for as bad as Darnold has been, even haters must admit he has flashed raw talent/ability. Some of these teams will have no chance at one of the top 4 Qb’s in this draft + are desperate for a new starter in 2021. All things considered there actually could be competition for Darnold and maybe why the Colts wanted to get Wentz now (without using a 2021 1st).
Raw talent isnt actualize talent. I put no stock in any teams desire to get him. Theyre just being vain if they think they can fix him honestly Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
there are also teams that think the Jets are a dysfunctional mess + will take that into account in their evaluation. Actualized talent costs you 3 1st round picks...
If the Eagles got a 3rd & 2nd for Carson Wentz, the JD should be able to get two 1sts for Sam all day long. Or a mid 1st and high 2nd. It all comes down to how well an organization can sell Sam Darnold to their fan base. Hope springs eternal. Hope sells tickets. A lot of them. The goal of an Owner is sometimes different than the goal of the GM/HC (see Tim Tebow and the Jets). If a team owner loved Sam in 2018, and has heard a few good things about him, then he'll convince himself that Sam will sell tickets. Lots of them. And when the GM/HC push back on the Owner (if), the Owner will remind them they were hired in the first place to make it happen. "Now go make it happen". That's all it takes. One owner as dumb as the Johnson Twins who wants to make it rain.
The Jets have done some really stupid shit over the years but trading a first and a second for the worst rated passer would have me buying a Bills jersey. I really can't see a team selling that hot bag of garbage to their fans. I can't even imagine fans out there actually hoping that their team trades for Sam Darnold. ESPN Predicts The Jets’ Starting Quarterback For 2021 Chris Rosvoglou 10 hrs ago This NFL offseason is shaping up to be one for the ages due to all the quarterback movement. One team that’ll be at the center of all the madness is the New York Jets. In addition to owning the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Jets have a young quarterback on their roster in Sam Darnold. He hasn’t lived up to the hype, but he also hasn’t received much help from the franchise. Darnold has already dealt with two head coaches, Todd Bowles and Adam Gase, and the offensive weapons around him are mediocre at best. That being said, New York can wash its hands clean of Darnold this offseason if that’s what the front office wants. And it turns out that’s exactly what ESPN insider Field Yates believes will happen. Yates is predicting the Jets to trade Darnold to the Bears for draft compensation. So who will replace Darnold in New York? Look no further than BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. Wilson is projected to be a top-five pick in this year’s draft due to his incredible arm talent. NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks recently compared the BYU product to Aaron Rodgers. “He’s a very skilled quarterback, and what I mean is he plays the position the right way. He plays the game as if it’s in slow motion,” Brooks said. “The way that he operates from the pocket, tremendous arm talent, can throw on time and off schedule. From all the different platforms he can throw, he really reminds you of Aaron Rodgers in terms of the way he can play on and off the script.” Unless something incredibly shocking happens, Wilson should be available when the Jets are on the clock with the second overall pick.
Sam is better, younger, cheaper, and healthier than Wentz. JD should get more in return. Pretty simple really.
Wentz has shown the league 4 good years of QB play, one being the MVP SB year - Sam has shown us maybe a couple of quarters here and there. Wentz's stats are superior to Sam's in all regards with his miserable 2020 being only marginally worse the 'peak Darnold'. He sure is more expensive but he's also locked under contract for a considerable while unlike Sam who's got one year left. Maybe we catch a break and get a third rounder from some desperate fool but I think it's increasingly likely we'll be stuck with Sam till he hits FA next year then he can be signed for a low cost and be reclaimed by someone willing to give him the time to do so.
