Oh, the Saints lost 2 2nd round picks alongside Brees and they went 7-9 4 out of 5 seasons.

I wonder what the Jets would do after giving up a bunch of 1sts for Watson?

Geez, I mean we're a Super Bowl roster right now just like the Saints were before they got hammered by losing the 2 2nds.

and yet the teams you listed all have had multiple playoff chances to our zero in the last decade. So I'm not sure your argument refutes mine

My argument is that the team the Jets most closely resemble among those listed above is the Lions. Deshaun Watson is going to shit himself after a season or two here when he realizes the talent is below what he needs to win consistently, let make the playoffs, let alone win a Super Bowl.

We know what Watson does when the talent on his team makes him shit himself.

Why cause he had a "bad" season this year?

Are you suggesting, despite the pro bowl appearances and multiple division titles he had with the Texans, because the Texans fell apart in 2020 it means he's gonna come here, fall apart and demand a trade?

This was in response to the suggestion that it was more likely that Watson somehow drop to only a top 10 QB for the next 3 years and then move on from the Jets.

But the truth is that Deshaun Watson will likely have more of a positive impact on a team than #2, #34, '22 SEA 1st rounder, and '23 1st rounder. If we're generous and assume that you get 2 guys with multiple pro bowls, an average starter, and a career backup.

Players tend to repeat behavior that works for them.

If his shitshow this year gets him out of Houston and then he has problems with the Jets - well, his most likely go-to is on full display right now.

One person's Shiny new marketing tool is another mans actual top-class FQB something the Jets have never had bar some fleeting joy out of my namesake and Pennington.

You only have to read this board to understand that nobody agrees on the current crop of talent at QB coming in this year's draft, that then suggests to the layman that none of them are actualy standout talents, with even the supposed stand out talent in Lawrence getting a bit of a downgrade in certain quarters.

Watson is however a top 5 QB and when do you ever see these out there to have a chance to trade for?

If you don't think every Jets fan would sign up for the run the Saints had with Drew Brees after a Deshaun Watson trade, you are crazy. They matched the Jets franchise total conference championship appearances and super bowl wins just in his time on the Saints.

Now, if your opinion is that the Jets can ONLY build a contender by having 4 1st round picks in the next 2 years, that's obviously a ridiculous take.

Gotcha. I'd add though that we also have to consider any free agents we'd be able to sign without Watson's big contract holding us back.

Watson produces 53 million in dead cap for Houston. This is not a great yr to have a top 5 pick other than Lawrence. Sewell. maybe but he laid off for a yr. Wilson,Fields Smith Surtain Parsons. Except for Pitts there are a lot of 2 headed monsters at each position

Trading Watson adds $5.6M to Houston's cap crunch. I don't think they would avoid top 5 picks in a trade because of this.

If you haven't noticed, we have a new GM. Mac, Idzik and Tanny are no longer here.

I'm not a huge fan of trading so much for Watson, and I know Watson will cost a ton, especially in a few years. BUT, how much will all those 1st round picks cost in a few years? Probably more than Watson. So if we can pay them, we can pay Watson, no?

    Just thinking out loud here...
