I wonder if the opinion on Lance would change materially if he played a full season 2020.

Ah, the saga of the QB draft story is ramping up for us Jet fans. I don't know if I can take two more months of this. Hard to buy into the media frenzy in regards to this year college QB ranking. The story changes by the day.
Early on this season, when the need to draft a QB slapped us in the face around game 4, TL was the only option, damned the rest. In fact the other QBs were an after thought.
As it became apparent we had lost the first pick, bowl games approached, Fields emerged as a very close second by many particularly after his game against Clemson. Soon after Field takes a back seat with a flood of information and videos stating Wilson was the hot ticket, if only we had paid attention to his accomplishments.
Here we are now, slowly approaching pro day, no combine, nothing has really much changed, no one has played a lick, yet the social media rumblings and expert analysis tweets and articles appear to be in full force, now anointing Wilson as the second best QB hands down and Fields seems to have become an after thought. Mater of fact, a small handful of brave souls are coming out of the woodwork and are even suggesting Wilson over TL. I can only speculate that soon Lance or Jones might be next in this wave of madness. Clearly the so called media experts are divided if the Jets should draft a QB, and they hardly agree on who that should be.
One can only wonder if JD ends up going into a totally different direction that what most all of us think or want. What ever he does, hope he hits a homerun.

I think this is a very good, fair analysis (as are all of his videos IMO). There is no doubt that Wilson has the arm to make any throw he wants, but JT does highlight some bad plays and points out why Wilson had problems with these - mainly poor lower body mechanics. But this wasn't an issue on every or even most throws, so it indicates that Wilson knows better, but he gets sloppy sometimes.

One thing that I disagree with JT on - and I realize I'm disagreeing with a virtual expert - he doesn't like when Wilson throws his guys into collisions, and while I agree it's not something you should do regularly, it shows me that Wilson isn't afraid to throw into tight coverage, and that's something lesser able QBs shy away from. Wilson has total belief in his arm and his ability to make the throw. I may be wrong on this take, but to me it's a plus for Wilson.

Again, after watching this coupled with watching the video of all his 2020 throws, I feel very confident that Wilson is definitely worth the #2 pick.

Galko had Mahomes as QB 1 and took a lot of shit for it. He has good sources.

  5. Maybe the passing attempt concerns but otherwise nope. This guy is undeniably explosive yet 75% dont even acknowledge him

Rodgers didn't have too many character concerns coming out. He worked his ass off through junior college to college and the NFL to get to where he did. He as a Tedford system quarterback which is why he fell. And frail/not as athletic as Smith. He also had to follow Kyle Boller and Joey Harrington who came from the same system under Tedford that garnered him that label. Similar to Fields and the Ohio State QB thing.

Baker had some of those character concerns but it seems as though it was overblown because he was a dickhead on the field towards opponents that fed his team energy. Not off of it.

I’m just not sure Wilson actually has character concerns. That article was from Walter Football, terrible site.

Your point in this post and next about Power 5 is well taken. Clearly these conferences are superior, and BYU didn't play against them this year. I readily concede this point. However, BYU is not a power 5 either, and in 2019 they played only 4 games against power 5, finishing as you said 2-2. Against non power 5 they did very similar: 5-4. 2020 against non power 5, 11-1. They even played some similar opponents. Boise State they beat by 3 points 2019, lost by 5 in 2018. 2020 they absolutely demolished them by 34 points. Lost to San Diego by 10 points, scoring 3 last year, and destroyed them in 2020 by 14, scoring 28.

The point is, yes, the schedule is weaker and they got some cupcakes. They didn't get to play usual four P5 teams, against which they did about the same as against not P5 a year before. They are not a P5 level team themselves and are not same level of talent as Clemson or Ohio State. Compared to last year against non P5, where they went 5-4, this year they went 11-1. But they still faced some decent teams, some good defenses, including these who played them tough and beat them before, and absolutely annihilated them this time. All while Zach performed in a historical fashion, delivering in every game. You can't just write this all off on cupcake schedule. This was big time improvement and performance by Zach after he finally got a healthy offseason to improve his game.

Eh whether you like the site or not, I still think Campbell is pretty well connected even if his connections aren't extremely high level like the ESPN's of the world. Having a highly trafficked website (good or bad) holds weight in the modern world.

And the report could be exaggerated. But I think what drives it for me and probably @KurtTheJetsFan as well is that in watching his interviews he just doesn't strike me as a guy that's going to come in and command a locker room.

The only player that I can really think of in recent history that that attitude has worked for is Roethlisberger.

Can you give a video link for the interviews you didn't like? Did you hear one after the last game of the season, where he gave all credit to his team, and at the end completely unprovoked they were screaming for him to come back? I posted the link before, but let me know if you want to hear this one.

The only time I care about character for a QB is if reports are that teammates hate him or he is lazy.

Wilson has no issue like that. Personality from what I understand is that Wilson thinks he's a star.

He's the next Jim McMahon wearing sunglasses before the Super Bowl.

Boise State also moved on from five defensive starters as four graduated and Curtis Weaver declared for the draft.

But you're missing the point with BYU. They're an independent that recruits like a power 5 team. They'd be right there with the Oregon State, Colorado and Arizona State's of the Pac-12 if they joined the conference. They recruit much better than a G5 team and they have a big advantage over a lot of schools because of the nature of being the only D1 Mormon school in the country.

That goes a long way with the ability to recruit the studs in the trenches from the Pacific Islands. That also results in them at times having more mature players if they go on their mission in college.

Just because they're independent doesn't mean they recruit on the level of like Army or New Mexico State.

It's not always about words. It's about presence dude. Most college kids are always going to say the right thing.

I appreciate that, but I do know my limits, and I'm nowhere as good as legler, Kurt, Zace, Vilma, and some others. I do try to remain open minded though and I acknowledge that I don't have anywhere near the resources or time that other, better evaluators have. In the end, for me, it's just educated guesses.

I think if you play well enough the locker room stuff sorts itself out. Everyone respects a guy who delivers on the field.

I disagree with that. I think playing well certainly helps, and the other players will be more patient or more willing to overlook some things, but eventually they get fed up with it, and if he doesn't play well for a game or two, then watch out.
