It’s not any speculation at all. Douglas did draft Becton later than Thomas or Willis and he was better than them. Speculating would be saying that Douglas might have drafted Willis over Becton if he was available.
You're acting like you know he preferred Becton over Wills and Thomas when they weren't even available at our pick. I'm saying we don't know one way or the other, so to give credit to him for such is stupid. It's Wills, not Willis btw.
No I’m not saying that at all. But with your thinking a gm can only get credit for a good pick if they are drafted first overall? What kind of backwards logic is this?
I totally disagree. It's not stupid in any way, shape or form. I'm perplexed at how you think it is. If JD didn't think Becton was a great LT prospect he didn't have to take him, and imo wouldn't have taken him. He could have traded down, settled for Wirfs, or taken one of Lamb, Jefferson, Jeudy or Ruggs to address our glaring hole at WR, or perhaps K'Lavon Chaisson to address our need for an Edge rusher. It's typical Jets fan negativity. Rather than give him credit for the pick he did make, you are speculating that he could have screwed up or would have screwed up given the opportunity. It's pointless, and there's no logical reason to do it.
They just said that this was apart of a bold predictions segment from the reporter but he seems to think the Panthers are going to do everything they can to get him. https://247sports.com/Article/Carol...rade-Deshaun-Watson-Houston-Texans-160992696/
This tweet is dumb. To maximize Watson's value, the Texans need to move him early in FA. Waiting a week before the draft is utterly disastrous for Houston. A half of dozen teams vying for him will be out of the sweepstakes plus other teams that don't full the QB spot might give out other contacts that would hinder their ability to take his on. Really bad take here.
Another terrible take. Two qbs have been traded at the END of their careers that have gonna on to win super bowls in the past 30 years. They were, btw, two of the greatest qbs to ever live. The rest were all basically drafted by their respective team, outside of Drew Brees but that situation was completely different. And I'll save everyone the time. Brad Johnson sand Tent Dilfer. This has been discussed ad nauseam but I'll say it again: when you have 5 HoFs on your defense, you can win with mediocre QB play. God I hate sports media lol.
Yes. And even if they are able to make a trade that gives them only 1 week to prepare for who they are gonna select with that draft pick anyway
The Panthers aren't in a good position with their cap and have to resign nearly their entire o-line, including Moton who will be getting paid like a top RT and Curtis Samuel. Trading McCaffrey would add $15M to their cap crunch. On the Texans side, I don't see how a package around the highest paid RB in the league makes sense. Their offensive line ranked 30th in run blocking last year, and won't be ready to compete for their division for the next 2 years.
Oh I agree. His comparisons are ridiculous. But I think he might be on to something with the Panthers going all in on getting Watson. That new owner obviously isn't scared to make moves with giving Rhule that ridiculous contract and control and their weird defense only draft. Eh. I mean I get it but it's a shiny new toy to sell to the fan base along with drafting a young quarterback and/or getting Bridgewater in the package. I wouldn't worry too much about the money. Teams always find a way to shuffle money around. The Saints are a bagillion dollars in the red and still re-sign all their guys. I'm not a cap guy but there's always a way to make it work through restructuring and deferring contracts to back load them. I don't think Watson would want to go there if McCaffrey is coming back the other way though. He'd be dynamic with him in the backfield.
Not true. Houston has a price and they only need one team willing to pay it. And that team simply has to want Watson; their interest in him and thus his value will be what they think he can do for him which will have nothing to do with whether they think another team may be in the market for him. Houston isn’t auctioning off Watson, starting low and hoping other teams bid it up; they are setting their price and only need one team who is willing to pay it. And there will be a team that pays it no matter how long it takes.
Realistically they are probably 6-8 teams right now that would bid for Watson. If the Texans wait until a week before the draft, you're probably looking at 2 - the Jets and Dolphins. It makes no sense to eliminate potentially a half dozen suitors for no reason. Sure, you could still get them into a bidding war, but maybe not. Maybe by then the Jets have moved on to signing Thuney, ARob, Sherm, Coleman ect and are content taking Wilson at #2 The Texans know right now if they are gonna trade him or not. It serves then no purpose to hold onto him for the extra month. In fact, it can work against them. Teams may sense their desperation and play hardball. If they trade him after the draft, then they are a worse franchise then the Jets.
What QB are the Texans drafting at 8? If the Panther's are the Jets biggest competition for Watson, Douglas should be able to get a really good deal done. Unless the Texans are open to drafting Fields, who is represented by the same agent as Watson, our #2 pick is really the most valuable single asset the Texans can get back for Watson. Maybe the Redskins trade Chase Young, or the Niners trade Bosa, but I don't think that's going to happen. If Watson ends up on the Dolphins, it's because the Texans think they can build around Tua.
I agree. While I'd like to see the trade happen already, the Jets might be able to get him cheaper if the Texans stupidly wait. Of course right now, with no power, they probably couldn't do anything if they wanted to, unless they have backup generators.
I'd be surprised if the Texans wanted to deal with Watson's agent again to take Fields or if Fields was willing to play for the Texans. The Texans could like Lance.
