With the limited amount of info I have regarding those three, I would have a very tough time deciding which one to take at #2. I wouldn't try to trade down a little if Lance was the one I really liked, unless I was certain that Atlanta wouldn't take him. Nothing would be worse than deciding that Lance was the guy they believe in and love, trading down to the 5-8 range, and then seeing Atlanta take Lance. The extra pick or picks would be nice, but aren't worth the risk. In addition to having the further info that JD has and input from LaFleur and Saleh, two factors would affect my decision on draft day. One, were we able to sign a FA QB (Tyrod Taylor or Andy Dalton) to a one- or two-year deal at a reasonable price so that if need be, the rookie wouldn't have to be thrown to the dogs if he wasn't ready day one; and two, was Saleh on board either with starting the rookie day one if he is ready, or sitting him for a while if he needed to sit. With that knowledge anda gun to my head today, if Saleh wanted a rookie who could start day one, I'd probably go with Wilson. If he was willing to start Taylor/Dalton for a while until the rookie was ready to play at a high level, then I'd probably go with Fields, but think a pretty strong case could be made for flipping the two as well since Wilson played against a lower level of competition and needs to curtail his aggressiveness, and Fields played against a higher level of competition and could be just as ready to start day one as Wilson.
The off season is working out great for the Jets. Far better than the regular. Joe Douglas and company talk to the FA's agents and for sure have them lined up and under the table negotiation continue. The media does the rumors because the NFL writers need a story. Mock drafts by the dozens claim to know what the team is going to do. The GM takes every phone call and keeps all options open. Last year he said he would listen to all offers, even thought it angered Jamal Adams, because that's his job. Teams are under pressure because they are at or over the cap. The following is off topic. I don't want to create a new thread just for it, and don't think many people will see it in the NFL thread, and think that many of you will really like this story regarding Warren Sapp, Tony Dungy, John Lynch and Derrick Brooks, so I'm going to put it here. Enjoy!
Absolutely not. Fields is head and shoulders above Haskins as a prospect, and it's easier to compare since they really played in the same school facing similar competition. For one, Fields is A LOT more mobile and athletic. That mobility right there puts Fields significantly ahead of Haskins, so I don't even need to go on. But I will. If you look at advanced stats, one of the key ones is adjusted completion %, and Fields is quite a bit higher. Deep ball - significantly better for Fields. Clean pocket accuracy, significantly better for Fields. When you look at overall advanced stats pff passing rating, it's not even close Fields is so much better. And did I mention he brings mobility and running threat that Haskins does not? Yes, I did, but its worth saying twice. Fields is head and shoulders above Haskins as a prospect, and it is not even remotely close.
