Darnold was a good prospect, I'm just saying Fields and Wilson are better.

Regarding your production claim - it's just not true. Both Wilson and Fields averaged a higher Y/A in their final college season than Sam, and Wilson's was much higher (11 vs. 8.6 for Sam). Wilson also had more TD's than Sam did, in less games. You are literally making things up lol. Idk why, it's easy for anyone to look this stuff up. In Fields' last full college season he had significantly more TD's than Sam did in his best college season, in the same number of games. Both Fields and Wilson also have WAY lower interception rates than Sam did.

Darnold played with less talent? Are you kidding? USC regularly has top recruiting classes, especially when compared to most of the rest of the PAC 12. Ohio State's offense under Day is also more pro-style than it was before. The injury concerns for Wilson I agree with.

Regarding prototypical frame - Sam's the same height as both Fields and Wilson, and Fields has 10 lbs on Sam and significantly more muscle. He's also much faster than Sam (4.5 vs. 4.8).

As far as the advanced metrics, of course they're not always right, but they're right more often than many other grading systems. Baker was clearly the best QB from that class prior to Allen's breakout year this year.

49ers reportedly targeting two star quarterbacks in trade
Charles Kruger, Game 7 14 hrs ago

The Jimmy Garoppolo era is coming to an end in San Francisco. Just a few weeks back, the 29-year-old’s name was brought up in a four-team deal involving Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson. Even if that trade doesn’t materialize, it’s clear that Garoppolo’s Bay Area days are numbered.

Assuming the Niners move on, who will be the franchise’s next starting quarterback?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there are two very viable options for San Francisco.

Those two options? Watson of the Houston Texans and Sam Darnold of the New York Jets.

“Deshaun Watson, he still badly wants out of Houston,” La Canfora said.

“The Texans are telling teams, ‘We’re not trading him.’ That could change by the draft. I can tell you, the 49ers, the Panthers (are) among the teams very interested in Deshaun Watson, as are the Jets.”

    Darnold similarly intrigues 49ers brass.

“Sources tell me 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan (is) very high on Sam Darnold,” La Canfora revealed.

“If that’s a match, follow me here, the 49ers would be trading Jimmy Garoppolo, and sources tell me Bill Belichick would love to have a Jimmy G reunion in New England.”

None of this should come as a surprise. Watson was linked to the 49ers several weeks back, along with three potential ‘sleeper’ teams.

Darnold, meanwhile, has been on thin ice with the Jets for a while now. Depending on who listen to, the organization is either planning to keep him and draft him some additional help, or dump him in favor of someone like Justin Fields.

Of course, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has his own theory on what the Jets will do with Darnold next year.

Regardless of what happens, it seems pretty clear that the Niners are moving on from Garoppolo. And if either Watson or Darnold are truly available, either one would be a legitimate upgrade at the quarterback position.

Who will San Francisco’s starter be next year? It’s tough to say. Who won’t it be? Based on everything we’ve seen thus far: Jimmy Garoppolo.

I’m sure this Twitter account is just bullshit but I’d be happy to swap #12 for #23 and take an additional 2022 2nd rounder.

I don't see where it says Jets second 1st round pick - it just says swap of 1st round picks, and a late round Jets pick and Darnold in return for moving down in the 1st round and a future 2nd round pick.

They're not swapping 2 + Darnold for 12 and a future 2nd rounder. Joe Douglas should be fired on the spot.

    The trade would be a swapping 12 + a future 2nd for 23 + Sam.

That makes more sense, but that's not what it says.

A friend sent this to me too. It wasn't labeled as a rumor though, it was just a mock draft I think. That'd be a steal with the second round pick on top.

i’m literally not making anything up, you are comparing last college seasons, I’m comparing colllege careers.

Wilson was a one year wonder, cupcake schedule and has injury concerns (and he’s the one I like).

Fields had a lot of support and played poorly against the better defenses he faced this year.

Darnold was said to be 6’4”, 230 lbs... but measured smaller, we’ll see how big Fields/Wilson measure and weigh. Colleges typically lie...

Advanced metrics haven’t been around long enough to know anything. They have been wrong mostly the last 3 years.

    It's not the #2 pick. We're not giving up #2 + a late round pick + Sam Darnold to move down to #12. It says it's a swap of 1sts so it's clearly 12 for 23 + Sam (2nd).

That tweet is absolute abomination though. I work with 1st graders that write better than that.

It's wrong to compare total college careers because Fields and Wilson dealt with COVID-shortened final seasons unlike Darnold. Y/A is also a better metric than game by game yards. Game yards can be inflated by pass happy systems, Y/A indicates efficiency. Darnold also had a higher interception rate than either guy and had a worse career completion % as well.

So both Fields and Wilson averaged more Y/A, a higher completion %, a higher QB rating and lower turnover rate than Sam. And your argument is that Sam was a better passer than both of them coming out of college?

You're basically warping and cherry picking the stats you want to try to make your case instead of choosing the most accurate way of grading each guy and going with whatever the numbers tell you.

Imagine we walk out of this off season with Sam as our QB.

The board's not been this busy for years so quickly in the off-season.

I looked at their entire college careers, didn’t cherry pick anything.

I think we can end this.

Darnold was a better prospect imo and you feel he wasn’t.

    Enough said, no hard feelings.

He tried to be clever + didn’t want to pay out big contracts right away... backfired a bit but Becton was a nice pick.

Some posters definitely seem to have developed a sense of recency bias. Maybe they didn't particularly rate Darnold coming out, but 2018 was rated by the vast majority as the best QB draft since 83. Darnold was widely rated as the best QB in that draft. Not a consensus best by any means, but the most regularly picked #1 and least likely to bust. It was a never to be repeated opportunity according to many. And here we are 3 years down the line and the class suddenly wasn't the best (which it wasn't) and Darnold was a run of the mill prospect and this year's crop has two or three better options. No doubt it will be the same in a few years time too.

None of this is a reason to keep Darnold or not to draft a QB. But it is a reason to suggest there are multiple options all of which should be in play.

    It doesn't say 'and'

'Report: A trade that has been discussed. #49ers and #Jets a swap of first-round picks #Jets late-round pick Sam Darnold to SF and a future 2nd rd pick to #NewYork #NFL'

It says swap of first round picks #jets late round pick (no and)

That to me is clarifying it is the #23 and not the #2

but if it was the #2 it would be laughed out of the front office and quite rightly so.
