I'd trade down the #2 and get one of the receivers plus another pick or 2.

Wilson and Fields are both good picks later in the round but a disaster on the #2. Nobody is smart enough to say with any authority who the #2 QB in this draft is and like so many other years there may not be a legitimate #2 guy.

Picking a backup QB on the #2 is like the definition of NFL nightmares.

Bold Take: The #2 QB is Lance.

Not straight up, right? Like Jimmy G and a 2nd for Darnold or something. I think he will probably be cut. Way too big of a contract and I am pretty sure nothing guaranteed for 2021. I wouldn't mind him as an option if LaFleur wanted him.

That is bold! 2020 was unfair for Lance. People didn't get to see how good he could be.

Well I disagree. I think Wilson may be as good or even better than Lawrence, and Fields right there too. Not to say they can come out Day 1 and start and succeed, but if they get a chance to sit and learn and get good coaching they're going to be much better than Garoppolo. JG would be okay as a vet stop gap, but he's not a long term solution IMO. If he couldn't do better than he did with SF, he's sure not going do better with the Jets.

I give you credit for creative thinking, but there's no way the Jets should make that deal. First of all, he's not very good. Second, for us to take on Garappolo's contract, the Niners would have to give us a pick in at least the 3rd round, if not the 2nd or 1st. Not only would we be potentially giving them a better QB than Garappolo, but helping them out with their cap.

A great idea if you're looking to ruin Saleh's chances of succeeding and of JD keeping his job. Garappolo isn't very good, and passing on a QB at #2 and then taking one at #23 is nuts imo. That would pretty much be the 5 years that Saleh has on his contract.

Neither Wilson or Fields would be a disaster at #2. That's ridiculous.

Neither Wilson nor Fields will be available after the 5th pick or so.

I'm not so sure about that. The people I see going top 5 for sure are Lawrence, Sewell and Parsons.

After that you have a couple of QB's people are looking at, a couple of WR's people are looking at, a couple of CB's people are looking at. It's a deep draft for talent and it's unclear people are going to use high picks on a QB not named Lawrence.

I think there's a very good chance that Fields and Wilson go in the 10-14 range. It's possible that Atlanta will reach for one of them at 4 given that Ryan is aging and the value in the draft doesn't match up all that well with Atlanta's other needs.

If JD does not view them as options at 2 , who does?
Sams stats are worst than all of these guys. 3 yrs in Josh Rosen has potential too, he is practice squad material

Parsons has his knocks as being a diva and has not played in a yr and Sewell has also not played in a yr, and some view Slater as a better option. The qbs and maybe Smith are the early picks

I'd take that. Trade him to NFC in the same division as the Giants and make them regret not drafting Sam for years to come :D

2-1's this year and 1 next year for Watson still leaves us with 23, 34 this year and 1-1 next year

As expected, multiple teams realize Sam has talent and that we somehow fucked it up.

I don’t doubt this one bit. I know that no one wants to hear it but it makes perfect sense that the new coaching staff would think they could move forward with Sam and use the number to pick to either trade back or take someone they really like that isn’t a quarterback. But I don’t think that would stop them from turning down a deal that includes another first round pick. so I don’t think it will ever be “close“ until the right offer comes along. They aren’t going to shop him and they aren’t going to sell him for nothing.

I don't believe that but based on this and what Schefter said, they've done an awfully good job of playing up how much they want to keep him and are simply listening out of due diligence.
