Sorry, but there's no way I can get behind or support rolling with Sam. That will end my fandom of the Jets, because it will convince me that JD and Saleh are not the right men to build a winner with the Jets. If they are offered even a 2nd round pick for Sam, they ought to take it and run. A 1st would be amazing and should definitely guarantee that he is traded.

I don't Lance as Lamar Jackson at all. He is not fast or elusive. IMO you have Lance and Fields reversed. Fields could be another Lamar Jackson and Lance could be a Watson/Russell Wilson.

Not me. He might get Sam playing better, but Sam would still be inaccurate, not see the whole field, and TO prone imo.

Fields isn't like Jackson, and Lance reminds me of Josh Allen. Big arm, very mobile, and came out of a weaker program.

I agree that Fields isn't a Jackson clone, but I think he's a lot more like Jackson than Lance is. I think both Fields and Lance look to pass first and foremost. They will run when they see the opportunity and even have some designed runs, but neither are the runner that Jackson is. Fields is much more mobile and faster than Lance.

If they make that decision to roll with Sam (which it looks like they will not), you should see how it goes. He has potential to succeed, so if Saleh sees that and Douglas still believes in him, and their plan is to build around him, I would be on board for sure. I just don't think that will happen now.

You could make the case that Sam makes the OL look worse than it is. It's great when he stands in the pocket and makes a play (as rare as hen's teeth). Not so great when he stands in there and takes a sack that pushes them out of FG range.

Sam winning last year was against a very weak schedule. But look no further than his records against AFC East teams. It's atrocious and that includes a gift win against Buffalo's backups last year.

The thing is, Sam's TO Issues is not a recent thing with Gase. I feel like when he was highly rated as a prospect, people just ignored this for the most part, given how much potential Sam had. And that's understandable to some degree, but let's say if I was trying to analyze a guy like Sam in this year's draft class, one thing that would be a major red flag is the fact that he was ranked #5 HIGHEST/WORST in the entire class, in TO worthy plays. I mean that is a pretty huge flaw. Wilson in contrast is ranked #1 overall in this regard (see below). And the guy has most throws in tight windows and also has the best ever ranking in 20 yard downfield.

Sam was ranked only #21 passing from clean pocket. Another big deficiency. Compare that to a guy like Fields, who is #1 there. So, yes potential for Sam was there, but in a few critical categories, like accuracy and TOs, where Sam was one of the worst in the entire College football, Zach and Fields are the best. These two guys easily go ahead of Sam even in this draft, and we can get the better one of the two. It's a no brainer to trade Sam, even to Patriots.

The point being, Sam had major red flags throughout entire College career, through two coaches in NFL, and he still has these SAME issues. Could he improve - sure. But the had these same issues for so long, this is a lot easier said that done, so NE or any other place that offers a better deal now should not be a major concern. And we have a pick in hand to get a better replacement.

If only he could play UTSA and North Alabama every year... unfortunately they aren't in the AFC East

I get your point about weaker competition, but he had a supporting cast that's comparable to the level of competition and had actually faced some ranked team, and teams with good defenses, playing well in each game. The supporting cast was so bad, I think I saw senator Romney suit up and play as a receiver for him, not surprisingly dropping a few balls, as usual. Another telling thing that makes me less concerned about competition is that he had a lot of tight window throws and had a historically good rating there too. There is a learning curve to be sure in NFL though, so I could see any guy not named Lawrence spending some time on the bench.

While I still don't know if Douglas is even thinking about a new QB, be it Watson or a draftee, my first choice is Watson, and then hopefully he takes the QB he thinks is most likely to become the FQB we've waited decades for. I've gone back and forth on who I like the best out of college, but I've swung back around to Wilson. I wavered a bit based on finding out about his injuries, and the reality that he's played lesser competition than Fields, Lawrence, Jones, Trask, but I watched some more film and read some more evaluations, and have decided that in light of the hiring of Saleh and LeFleur, that Wilson makes the most sense. He's accurate, especially on deep balls, mobile, and he makes quick, intuitive decisions with the ball, similar to Mahomes. Assuming he's fully recovered from his injuries - and his play this past season seems to prove that - I think he'd be a great fit on the Jets.

Close behind Wilson I'd take Fields who is physically superior, although not necessarily having a stronger arm. But he's also very accurate, as well as mobile, and maybe a better pure runner than Wilson. That said, he hasn't shown that he can make decisions as quickly and in the pros that's going to be exposed. I do believe he can learn to improve on this because this is true of every level that a player goes up in competition, but there will be a learning curve, and it's unclear how well and how quickly he'll improve. Still, I wouldn't be unhappy if Fields was the choice.

Lance is a BIG question mark for me. I've seen the tape and read the reviews, including assessments of our own TGG gurus, and I give all that a lot of weight. Still, he's only thrown 300 passes and only played one game this season. And he plays in a Tier 3 league on a perennial powerhouse. Because of his high ceiling I believe he will be taken very high, no later than Detroit's #7, but he represents a huge gamble. I can only trust that if Douglas and Saleh take him they've got the knowledge and experience to know what they're doing.

As a "dark horse" I like Mac Jones. The two biggest concerns I have with him are that he's not very mobile, and he comes from Alabama and it's hard to know how much his success came from playing on a virtual semi-pro team. That said, he's noted for being a very quick reader and decider which I think will become even more of an asset in the pros, and he's also very accurate, and passed for over 400 yards four times, and 300 yards 8 times this season. Maybe taking him at #23 would make sense, although I'm a believer that if you've identified a guy who can be your FQB, you take him with your first pick to know run the risk of losing him.

Trask is similar to Jones in that he's not very mobile, but he is a great passer, but IDK if his skill set is the best fit for the LaFleur offense.

I'm fully prepared to see Douglas stick with Darnold again however. It's not what I prefer, but I could see where that's what he does.

I really came to pretty much the same conclusions throughout all evaluations since the College season ended. I am hoping and expecting Wilson's results at the combine, medical evaluations, pro day, and interviews will solidify him as a consensus QB2, with Fields as QB3. Lance and Mac would then be 4/5, but the order of these two may differ. Watson of course is a first choice, but I would be happy if Wilson does well at combine and measurements and we end up with him.

As far as keeping Sam, the only way I see him staying is if we cannot find a good deal for him, and still draft Wilson, but think he needs time before he can start, which is probably the case. Then Sam starts until Wilson is ready. In best case scenario if Sam miraculously plays great, we could even franchise tag him and trade, fetching a lot more value, and start Zach the following year. Basically like Alex Smith and Mahomes. More likely though, he just plays out his contract and Zach starts whenever he is ready, which could be mid year 2021.

that makes these mock drafts even more remarkable. Someone is really gonna draft a Div II QB who played 1 game, with no combine, in the early half of the 1st round???? I ain't buying it...

Trey Lance should go back to school

Yeah, didn't realize measurement part of combine was canceled as well. Looks like we will be looking at March 26 to get Zach's numbers.

I hadn't seen this mentioned before but apparently Zach Wilson's dad likes tweets about the Jets not drafting Wilson? They are Pats fans? Sure it doesn't mean squat but still, irritating. I don't really love Wilson or Fields at 2 but whatever, we may end up with one of them.

It drives me crazy. I have watched Sam for three yrs, I have not seen the potential greatness ever. I have seen 3rd string qbs put up great numbers for 2 weeks , better than Sam ever had. Minshew in Jacksonville, his stats are what people are hoping Sam can match next yr. Yet everybody is saying do not trade for Watson. Draft an Ot and play him out of position and be forced to let one of our tackles go as we become a team in 4 yrs because of cap. Get the qb either Watson or Wilson or Fields. We are it control. and can make it any of these guys JD make the best selection .
