What'd you see from the action today @Red Menace ? I didn't get a chance to take a look at any film but nothing seems to pop out on the box score (which makes sometimes with mediocre at best QB play for the senior bowl).
Sorry, Red, but I totally disagree. He was getting destroyed yesterday on passing downs and he was not opening any holes for the run. He's too slow/has too little mobility for a zone blocking scheme. No way that he's a fit for us.
Deonte Brown is the only OL I know of or see on the rosters of the Sr. Bowl with the first name "Deonte", and he played at Alabama. There was no OL from East Carolina in the Sr. Bowl, and as far as I know, no player from East Carolina period. There's a Trey Smith from Tennessee, but he didn't play very well, either. There was RB Michael Carter from Carolina, LB Chazz Surratt from Carolina, WR Shi Smith from South Carolina, DL Tarron Jackson from Coastal Carolina, an DB Bryan Mills from NC Central, but no Deonte Smith. I'm afraid that you've lost me.
IMO Deonte Brown, Trey Smith and Alaric Jackson all cost themselves some big $s at the Sr. Bowl. They all looked bad in one-on-one drills, and the first two looked pretty bad in the game. I didn't notice Jackson specifically in the game, but the whole American OL looked pretty bad to me. They struggled the whole game to protect the QB or open rushing lanes.
Autocorrect changed the first name I typed, my bad. D’ante Smith is the one I was referring to from East Carolina. I believe he hurt his thumb and that’s why he did not play.
Even if he didn't play, he should have been listed on the roster, and I didn't see his name on either roster. He was on the American roster, I have no idea why the Sr. Bowl omitted him from the roster. I live in NC and had never heard of him, and East Carolina wasn't very good, so they were never in the news here in the middle of the state. I didn't have time to follow the practices this year like I have in years past. I googled him. Thanks for pointing him out. He does seem like a good prospect. He may be worth taking a shot on. It will be interesting to see where he is ranked.
Nice little write up...Gives the team that drafts him a lot of flexibility. Notre Dame football: Offensive lineman boosts stock at Senior Bowl (indystar.com)
Thanks for this. Hainsey really impressed me when I went back and watched more on him he looks legit. At 34 I’d be super happy with this pick
