It's going to be tough going against Watson twice every year. I am OK to lose Watson and say draft Wilson with #2, but hopefully it will be outside the division.
So, tell us why Favre would be speaking in code instead of just saying "the Jets should take Smith with the number two pick"?
My contacts in Houston say people there are critical of the Texans for hiring consultants to help pick a GM and ignoring them in favor of Caserio. (That's a twist on an old Jets scenario.) I also had a Texans fan ask if they could fire the owner - I guess he knew I would have looked into such a thing over the last fifty years or so.
I am officially tired of you dude. Go have a 1 month vacation. Enough with you bringing Race and Politics into the Jets Forum.
Can you share your inside sources? Would love to know if they are more credible than the 100s that say the Jets would be on his list.
whenever the new team overtakes the Texans as having the worst ownership and front office in the league.
Agreed. Then as draft comes and candidates will be hyped as Mahonmes or Allen 2.0 Houston does not have as much leverage as many think teams will want to move as it will affect their FA and draft strategy
That would be a fireable offense for JD IMO. If he doesn't even submit an offer if Houston decides they are willing to trade Deshaun, I have no interest in him remaining our GM. Now, if he low-balls them or someone is willing to give up 5-6 1sts/some ridiculous offer, that's a different story. But he's got to put our name in there, Deshaun Watson's don't come around via trade. This is truly an unprecedented scenario. I'm all-in on Deshaun because he's something the Jets have been searching for since Namath, a truly elite franchise QB that would alter our trajectory for a decade+. I'm not willing to give up anything and everything to get him but I'd be more than willing to part with 3 1st's and change. Once we start getting into 4 1st's or 3 1st's and Quinnen or other crazy scenarios, that's where I get hesitant. Make no mistake, Houston will get a haul for Deshaun, as they should. JD has played his short tenure as the Jets GM very well IMO so I'm excited to see how these next few months shake out, Watson or not.
It’s up to the Texans to get the trade approved with Watson but it costs teams nothing to make a bid before the draft. Watson has already embarrassed the team, I doubt they let him abuse them as well by nixing the best deal they can get because he doesn’t want to play there. He nixes a great deal my money is they call his bluff. As you mentioned he can’t roll his year, and his value will be just as high a season from now. Better to get a great deal next year than settle on a lesser deal this year.
didn’t Chicago move up from 3 to 2 with SF not that long ago? Teams do it if they worry some other team will leapfrog them. And I think at the very top of the draft it’s easier to have a love affair w a particular player (not always correctly eg dion Jordan)
I think the premise of the post you responded to is assuming that even though there is a lot of anonymous chatter about Watson wanting the Jets as a desired location, that once he does actually submit his list of desired locations to the Texans, the Jets won't be on that list.
agreed. Fwiw I’m a believer in the maxim that talent knows talent when a star glows about another athlete and seems genuine saying so I’m all ears they’re not always right, eg Lebron loved DSJ, but they see things we dont
Oh well. I'm more and more confident, by the day, in JD's drafting ability. This team will look drastically different after next year's draft than 2020.
