My first season was 1971...age 7...and I am now 43 years old...so I've been following the Jets for 36 seasons. 1998 was my all-time favorite year - we could have won it all 1999 started out as the best, and finished ok, but killed me 2006 seems to me the second (behind 1998) most satisfying season as a Jet fan. I like our coach, our staff, our players, our team, the attitude and personality. Even though he has his shortcomings, I love Chad and his brain and tougheness. Neon Leon, Cotcherry and Coles, the OLine Rookies, my favorite player - Shaun Ellis, the linebackers, playing the corners tight, Kerry Rhodes, my new favorite player. I really think this is the start of something for our franchise, and I'm glad to have witnessed it in 2006!
1998 was probably the best year ive had as a jet fan. ive been a fan since i was 8 or 9 (85-86). my favorite game is a tie....miricle at the meadowlands just because i was there, and i mean, cmon, it was flat out AWESOME! but our shutout of the colts in the playoffs has to be my favorite because i hate manning since he should have been a jet...we had the first pick, and he decided to go back to tenn for a 5th year!!! SoB! which, coincidently is why i hate the vols.
I go back a ways too (not as far as some) and 1986 was a pretty good ride (hot start, subsequent cold spell, then the win vs. KC only to lose to Cleveland). 1998 was great, too. I really liked 2002, though, as the promise of Chad, the GB game to clinch it all and the slaughter vs. Indy all had the feel that there was a lot left in store for the team. Then...Oakland.
This year, so far. I like SO MUCH of what I see and think our organization is in great hands ofr the forseeable future. And of course, since we don't know how this year is going to end yet, well, ya never know... Every other year broke my heart, in one way or another.
in 99 we started 0-6. My first season was 83,and my favorite was probably 99. I'm not sure why. The Titans kind of remind me of what we were that year. Ofcourse we missed the Playoffs by 1 game,Parcells retired, then Belichick Arnold dashed to NE. I also loved 02 and am really liking this year a lot. I think when this year ends we have a lot to hope for for seasons to come. Young staff, and young players that are being guided in the right way.
the way i took the 1999 deal is that it started with such promise....we were actually a favorite to make the bowl....then....before you could blink....Vinny went down, and our season went with him. but before the first game, it was filled with such promise, and confidence. and then the curse of the jets hit....vinnys achilles....in buff....it popped.
I saw O'brien play in 1991 but barely remember much about the Jets back then. Withought the Internet and not being able to see all the games. So I guess my first satisfied season I should pick where I knew enough and that is 1997.
Yup,1st game vs the Pats,Vinny goes down. I'll never forget keyshawn crying in the post game. Then we had Rick Mirerhmy: . After Vinny went down,it was accepted to be a losing season right then and there. Nothing was expected anymore. But then,Ray Lucas comes in and we come 1 game short of the playoffs. We still Beat NE in NE,Beat Buffalos ass,and swept the fish.
1969 - 1st with me. There was unbelieveable magic when Namath and company won the Super Bowl. 1998 - This would be number 2. We really had it going that year and if it were not for the 50 mph winds we had to play in Denver in, I think we would have advanced to the Super Bowl and I think we would have won. 2006 - For now, this is number 3. So unexpected, yet it is savory. Like getting laid.
1998 season went 12-4 for the first time I believe since I have been watching the Jets. 2002 Herm's 2nd Year winning the AFC East with the help of the Pats and it came down to the last home game against the Packers. Also shuting out the Colts in the playoffs I have to say this current season as well. Alot of ?'s & this turnaround process has made the team look like the future is bright as well with Mangini & Tannenbaum.
my family wasnt big football buffs when i was growing up, they just followed the cowboys for football pots at work, so i didnt really get into football seriously 'til around 2000 when i started college. i took a trip with my senior class to NY and fell in love with the place, so naturally i started following the jets. so in my short tenure as a jets fan id say either '02 or '06. '02 was good, but i like the coaching staff and the overall attitude of the team for '06 as well.
I didn't really start watching the Jets until about, say, 2000. I remember those years very little, but I remember watching the games then. I do remember my dad rooting hard in 1998, and I know about that year, and it was a damn good season. But for me, for the seasons that I truly know about, it's gotta be. 1)2002. I remember watching all of the games in my basement. I remember watching the Jets destroy the Colts (the 41-0 game) and it was just amazing to see them play like that. I also remember watching the divisional game against the Raiders, and I specifically remember a bomb to Jerry Rice (I'm pretty sure it was him) going down the sideline and my jaws just dropped. I was pretty young in 02'. 2)2004- Woah. I LOVED 2004 for the Jets. F*cking Doug Brien ruined it for me. I don't even want to talk about it, that's how upset I'll get. I really thought we were going all the way that season.... 3)2006- This year is amazing too. I can't believe how good we are doing. We were projected to win only 4 games. And how many have we currently won? 9. Like Green Guy said, this seasons coach/staff/players, etc are all great.
1. 1998, which is the greatest season in my fanhood. 2. 1981, the Jets finally became as good as my older relatives memories of the glory years. 3. 2006, the Jets came out of nowhere to win 9 or 10 games and beat the Patriots for the first time in several years. 4. 1997, watching Parcells resurrect a dead franchise. 5. 2002, Chad's greatest season helped pick the Jets off the mat when Vinny lost it. 6. 2004, Jets got off to a 5-0 start before the gremlins caught up to them. They even won a playoff game at the end of the season. 7. 1982, would rank much higher if the strike had not ruined it for me. Ended on a very sour note too. 8. 1985, probably the best Jets team before 1998. Got beat in the wildcard round by an inferior New England team that then went to the Super Bowl. I hated Spanky Walton after this season as it confirmed him as a clutch loser to me. he'd had two lousy seasons running up to this one and then he spit the bit against the Pats. 9. 1986, bittersweet year with a 10-1 start followed by an 0-5 finish and then two decent efforts in the playoffs. 10. 2000, a bunch of early come from behinds capped by the Monday Night Miracle against the Fins. I liked Al Groh and I was sorry to see him go.
1982 was a fun season until the Mud Bowl. The Jets beat Cincy and Oakland on the road before Shula left the Orange Bowl field uncovered and turned it into a quagmire to slow down Freeman McNeil, who was a slashing, cutback style runner. I'll never forgive Shula for what he did. TBTF
