sure but 90% of QBs in the NFL can do that. the days of statue QBs is pretty much over. I can't really think of a QB off the top of my head that can't do that

Goff and Garroppolo are the two worst running quarterbacks in the league. Have you seen Goff try to lumber around? Or Garoppolo for that matter.

Every quarterback of a reasonable age in this league runs bootlegs. The only three that realistically don't and never have are Brady, Brees and Roethlisberger and they're from a bygone era.

I don't really want them but Trask and Jones are fully capable of doing so.

I don't disagree with anything here other than Jones or Trask being able to do so. I mean yes, they can probably run a bootleg but why would you draft someone and then NOT play to their strengths? We just tried that.

Sam is in yr three and the worst-rated starting qb in the nfl, of a 2 win team . What has Sam even done to make you think he could become a good qb. Three yrs, what has he done where he was magical. Where was he down and lifted the team on is shoulders and led them to victory. Three yrs to show some greatness and I have seen none of it.blame Gase, blame talent, a star will still rise above it all and have clips like Watson had this yr in Houston. Watson did not win many games this yr but he had them close most weeks. My worst nightmare is Sam throws for 26 tds and 13 ints after we chose not to draft a top prospect and we have to sign him for a 28 million dollar per yr contract, because next yrs qb class sucks. We find out that is Sams ceiling. This would be a reach for Sam based on his past seasons

I've said this before but if he sticks with Sam I'm pretty much out on JD. There is no world in which it's a smart football move to stick with Sam. If JD doesn't realize just how bad Sam's been and how much it's been killing us then he isn't fit to be a GM.

Fields is objectively a better prospect than Sam was. He's more athletic, more accurate, turns the ball over far less, averages more yards per attempt and threw more TD's. Wilson is probably a better prospect too.

The whole "but what if he doesn't work out! JD is screwed!" thing is so irrelevant. That's the risk you take drafting anybody, it doesn't mean you shouldn't draft them. There's like 1 QB prospect every 10 years that everyone would feel comfortable taking. Otherwise you do the best you can and live with it.

Well you sort of make your own point. If you think one of them can be a good quarterback wouldn't you draft them and tailor the system to their strengths? Rather than choose system over player.

he reminds me of a low budget brees with a better arm though. I was talking currently in the NFL though. the days of the vinny T and slow B Qbs are kinda over

I'd sign CJ Beathard and have him compete with whomever we draft if we do move on from Sam.

I prefer him out of all the low budget options. Every time he came into the game last year he moved the ball. He obviously still sucks and will be a career backup but I'd sign up for him as a backup or a guy to start the year if we draft someone.

They did. But I don't think that's their preference. The ability to drop back and run a play action offense with accuracy down the field is really the common denominator. We're going to find out what they prefer though.

LOL the hate on Sam is for real.

Worst case scenario, in your mind, is the Jets having a decent QB for once and assuming based on your assumed stats a good record and maybe making the playoff.

That was exactly how the Chiefs were with Alex Smith or the Ravens with Flacco. That is not the worst scenario at all! Actually we could just like the Chiefs and Ravens target the QB we want and trade up to get him when we feel we got our guy. We could also develop a strong core of player with talent everywhere.

The worst case scenario by far would be to move on from Darnold (him becoming a Pro Bowler elsewhere, doubtful maybe but not remotely impossible, let's assume with the Saints or Colts) and the QB the Jets draft 2nd overall don't do shit and he is a bust by year 2 or 3 and we are stagnant as a franchise with an horrible record. That would be my horrible scenario. And in 3 years from now another Jets fan showing ad nauseum that we need to draft another top rated QB early in the draft because it is the ONLY way we can become a Super Bowl champion.

The odds that Sam becomes a Pro Bowler are way smaller than the odds the #2 pick becomes a Pro Bowler.

It is still a worse scenario(seing Sam flourish elsewhere) than having good performance from Sam with the Jets for once.

Yeah but that's pretty unlikely, and I'm not going to hang onto Sam and pass on what appears to be a much better QB becuase I'm scared of what people will think if Sam does well elsewhere.

The goal is improving the Jets and become a perennial super bowl contender either with Sam or Not. We need to improve significantly at almost every position not just QB. Sam was drafted 3rd overall for a reason and Joe Douglas might be willing to give another year to Sam with an improved team and new coaching staff before throwing the towel on him. People are quick to forget but he is only 23 years old and he has a decent arm and has showed glimpse of talent (way more than his detractors are willing to admit). I do think the doom and gloom crowd if we don't get a new QB are setting themselves for dissappointment. I do not think Joe Douglas will force himself into selecting a QB at 2nd overall UNLESS he is 100% sold by one of the kid during the evaluation process. Either way I will back the decision of JD.

I love how everyone acts like JD is risking his future by whiffing on the #2 pick but don't think he's risking his future by bringing back the worst starting QB in the NFL.

    No.

I think the worst case scenario would be to hold onto, Darnold. He continues to suck despite giving him even more pieces to work with on offense.

While one of the QBs we could've drafted turns into the next NFL stud at the QB position.

We've passed on top tier QBs way too much this last decade. We should probably stop that trend at some point and get one of our own.

If Darnold is the guy, I will support that, trust that.

If he flops though and another one of these QBs light the league on fire and we didn't even try.

Yeah. That's definitely worse case for me.

He is not risking his future. He is looking to improve the team. He wants to establish a perenial championship that could mean a new QB but it could also mean a way better suporting cast. He might be looking at drafting a QB or not. If we start hearing whispers about him activaly looking to trade down it would probably go more with the 2nd scenario of him loading his team with better pieces and possibly overlook the position of the QB with the first draft pick.
