we have a lot of flexibility. I did a full mock offseason here https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/gac-jets-full-mock-offseason-v1.95200/

They will be getting a QB at better value than Watson. Watson will cost a ton of draft picks that the Jets have gathered. Way too many to use on Watson but Stafford you only losing your spot in the first going from 2 to 7. That's still great value. No 2 firsts this year and another next year for Watson.

I think this is what Douglas will do. He might sign a few FA's, but won't go wild like some here want. This is why having a ton of cap space isn't necessarily a good thing. We have no one to give a second contract until possible next offseason when Q Williams has completed his 3rd season. Allen Robinson would be the WR I want, but he'll be 28 this year and might want to play for a team closer to the playoffs than the Jets are. We must draft and develop our own skill position talent. Joe Thuney is a popular OL choice here, I wouldn't be opposed to signing him because the guards need replacing and draft picks take time to develop.

Thuney is 29 next November. He's one of the two years and out guys and he won't be signing a 2 year contract.

I get that, but we can't rely only on the draft to procure talent. With a ton of cap space, we have to take a few risks while drafting eventual replacements for the signings.

    Lions only have 5 picks.

I'd keep #2 and offer a package around 23 and 34, maybe an upgradable future.

Sell #2 to the one or two good teams that are going to be left choosing between Trubisky, Dalton and Newton.

It was the Stafford/Sanchez draft that brought me here.

    We can make this work.

Definitely think the Lions are a trade back partner candidate with the Stafford news, but I would assume he is wanting to go to a contender.

While I don't think its a deal I'd do, if you want to try to instantly compete, the idea of Stafford + 7 for pick 2 is certainly intriguing.

If you have any intentions of using pick 7 (or 23 for that matter) on a QB, than taking Stafford instead of extra picks is foolish IMO.
