As a (fanatical) fan of this team since 1965.....I sometimes like coming on this website before and after games, but other times avoid it like the plague.....many of the people on this site repeat the same nonsense over and over.....here are some thoughts from a 40+ year diehard (I know there are many of you out there also)....... 1) (to this point) I have enjoyed this season as much as 98 & 02.... 2) Mangini is the real deal!!! 3) Schottenheimer makes Hackett & some of his other pretenders OC look like middle-school coaches.... 4) Tannenbaum's 1st draft looks like the best in years....plus the FA pick-ups..... 5) I wish Curtis was healthy enough to be a part of this.....Chad's hard work and comeback have earned my total respect....get off his back, because he has trouble throwing a 40 yard out.....oldtimers like myself have seen hundreds of hot-shot rocket-arms not make it in this league.... 6) I don't believe this rookie season by Tangini is a fluke, and optomisticly believe they understand how to win in the NFL today... each year they will get better and better..... 7) Unless you suffered through the 70's and the Kotite years (you don't know pain & disapointment)...those were horribly depressing times..... 8) I'm happy and pleased with the direction of this organization...and I'm not letting the NAYSAYERS & DARKSIDERS bring me down..... Sincerely, RickJet
Thanks pal. That says it all. I'm 61 year old and have rooted for the Jets since my early 20's. I watched SB III in my Dad's family room prior to my departure for Vietnam in January, 1969, so I know how far back you go. Good points!
Good post. I can see where all the darksiders come from though. Haven't had much to cheer about since SB 3.
Well said indeed. just like you I am satisfied and thankful for the Jet's accomplishments. From here on out this year is just gravy. Could the God's surprise us all and make 2006 the Miracle Jet's year? Very unlikely but not totally out of the question. Think of a Chicago versus the Jets SB as the Colts versus the Jets revisited. You never, never know. Dreams are for lightsiders. I am proud to be one of them.
Guys thanks for the support, I know there are thousands of us out there...that been through everything possible (or even impossible)......any more 40+ out there???????????? PS: I'm from CT
This has been one of my favorite years of all time - Jet fan since 1971. The only season better for me was 1998 when we looked like we could win it all...and into the start of 1999 until Vinny's injury in the opener. Of all of the teams, even since Parcells - this is where we can finally put an end to "the same old Jets!" For that I am thankful!
From a 50+, here's kudos on each and every one of your points. Very well stated. PS: I'm also from CT. (obviously .. )
41 years old, been a fan since 1971, if you want to know complete depresion become a fan of the Jets in the early 70's. I went through the 3 and 4 win years time and time again. Through it all I am afraid of the Same Old Jets but continue to believe that this time it will be different. This year (as always) WILL be different and we will move on. Oh by the way from CT also.
I am 47 and went to my first game in 1965. I agree with everything you said. Life is too short and good Jet seasons are few and far between. We need to enjoy the unexpected success this season. I also believe that we may have struck gold with Mangini and Tannenbaum. Hopefully, the best is yet to come.
Very good post Rick - I've been a fan since Joe Namath and I have been attending games for 20+ years. I have enjoyed many seasons throughout the years while enduring the painful ones also. This season though has been a nice surprise and who knows what the upcoming weeks will bring us. I will be there Sunday cheering on our players that supposedly nobody in the country knows!!!!!
I still shudder at the thought of our D trying to stop LaDanian Tomlinson. "Very unlikely" is quite an understatement. But I like your spirit. And yes, this has been a season to enjoy. But I'll hold the gravy until after we beat the Raidahs (the win at MIA set this up).
i'm over 40, but i did get to see super bowl 3. i'd rather get a trophy than suffer years of perpetual mediocrity. you can talk about stats , td/int ratio, all you want. you're not going to win a trophy with an arm-limited qb. going there and losing isn't any better-just ask vikes or bills fans. 4 trips each and still have empty pockets.
Good to see there are some other CT jet fans. I have long dreamed of one day opening a quality Jets bar/fan club kind of place...and knowing that there are fans in the area makes it alil more encouraging.
people have to learn how to be true fans of the team they support they got to be there thru thick and thin, high and low, good and bad, no matter what im a considerablely young fan compared to the amount of years you other veterans been there for the jets but stay true to your team for when they do get to the top you'll also reap the benefits
