Just the usual when somebody disagrees with your point of view.

No I mean is someone implying that the 2021 QBs are just as good if not better prospects than the 2018 QBs?

Well, I was called that for saying that Fields has as much of a risk of being a bust as Sam was, hence my warning for the other poster in saying Sam was a better prospect than all this years crop.

I think Sam was a far better prospect than anyone not named Trevor Lawrence in this draft. The problem is we are now three years down the road and he’s regressed. Sam had things to work out without question and we did absolutely nothing for him and made him worse by not fixing his problems and compounding that with bad direction. I think he had far more raw talent and was far more of a versatile quarterback than Fields is and definitely more than Wilson.

but here we are, three years later and we are already potentially moving on from him so...

Does he deserve another year in your opinion?

If I use the same eyes on Fields as I did on Sam while in college games, admittedly not many games, what I saw of Sam scared me, he was an INT machine and that really hasn't changed, I feel for the lad as he hasn't had a real chance to succeed from the off, he is still young though so anything is possible but how willing is he to put in the work to change what is wrong? He still has raw talent but you get called out for that nowadays as well lol sometimes it isn't worth sticking your head above the parapet and just waiting to see what road JD and Saleh go down, the path of least resistance as a poster ;)

I personally think at this point it’s better off for both sides to just move on... but I would not be surprised whatsoever if the new staff and Joe Douglas, a guy who wants to maximize his assets, all think that Sam could succeed in an offensive system that he fits well and has also made below average quarterbacks look above average. Like I said he absolutely had his faults coming out of college and I think everyone knew that, but I also think the eye test showed you that he had the potential to be special. Us fucking up that situation will go down as one of the biggest blunders in Jets history. If not THE biggest blunder, in the top three for sure.

I can't argue with that and I have already documented in a couple of posts that I think Sam will be coming back and we will be trading down for more picks.

i’m leaning towards that as well and less we can land Watson. Although my reasoning for thinking this staff would want to move forward with Sam also makes me think they would want to start fresh with a guy like Wilson whose traits fit the system perfectly.

i’ll be honest, the way we spectacularly fucked up with Sam has me questioning the way I view college quarterbacks in general. A guy like Sam should have been a top-tier quarterback in this league and now he’s probably going to hang out in the bottom third for at least the next year if he stays here. Meanwhile a guy like Josh Allen should have been lower third in this league his entire career but he was coached perfectly and the team around him could not have been built any better.

Was Sam's issues in college INTS or fumbles, running around the pocket with the ball held out like a loaf of bread? I thought it was fumbles, which he has gotton much better with.

His issue was fumbles but his last year he had an uptick in interceptions. I wouldn’t personally call him an interception machine but it was definitely an issue. Footwork got worse, confidence was non existent, and he had no help to fix either of those things.

Ah thanks. A different poster said Sam was an INT machine in college.

There are 3 people in this conversation me and Broadway Sam and now you, guess which one was the guy that said he was an interception machine.

A clue is it wasn't you or Broadway Sam

He did have fumble issues for the reason you stated.

"Perhaps the knock he has received most often from evaluators, both professional and amateur, is for his turnover propensity. Across his 27 college games over two seasons, Darnold amassed a whopping 36 turnovers. He lost 14 fumbles out of a total of 20, and threw 22 interceptions on 846 attempts (2.6%)."

22 ints is an Ints machine but add the only 2.6% stat and maybe it isn't, just seemed a lot to me.

I don’t it understand the raw talent that everyone saw and still sees in Sam

he’s had a good arm, above avg accuracy, and average athleticism ... that doesn’t scream elite prospect to me

    what did you see differently?

his above average accuracy, his arm talent and his ability to make plays on the move especially with deadly accuracy made him a perfect fit for today’s NFL coming out of school. Unfortunately we decided to turn him into a game manager that sits in the pocket all while not helping him improve his footwork which destroyed his confidence.

And there are still people who think we should take a QB in this draft but who don't believe Douglas will.

Okay, so their are differing views on the draft classes. I am with you, just by memory. There was ALOT of talk about Sam for a couple years and most of it was him being the clear #1 pick. Mayfield rose at the end to steal the spot. Rosen and Allen were close the whole time too. Jackson was the wild card that people were not sure about.

Now this time Lawrence has been talked about a lot as the clear #1. Fields was the #2 guy, and now Wilson is getting a Mayfield push towards the end. Lance did not play this year, so he has been talked about less.

Sad but true, I'm not convinced he will either.

Nothing more than a guy throwing around ideas but obviously, we would take that and run. Probably why there’s no chance of it happening.
