a thread for highlights of the conference CJ: Structure has changed. Saleh reports to JD Saleh: "all gas no breaks" from when we wake up until we go to bed. get better every day TLDR summary: Saleh loved it here, loved JD and CJ. brings passion, commitment, family environment. will be involved with whole roster. won't call plays has faith in his staff. Reports to JD not CJ. brings respect and builds relationships with players. gives his all to his players and staff
JD: on why he picked saleh: TLDR everyone loved him involved in the search. he checked all the boxes. Passion and ability RS: on sam darnold: how we game planned against him, unbelievable arm talent, natural throwing motion, mobile, intelligent, fearless, tough as nails, loved in the locker room. you can see it all on tape
RS: on when did he know this was the place for him: comes from a tight knot family. the jets felt like that with CJ and JD. a sense of family and having each others backs and being close with each other. heart mindset and commitment to being better
He's speaking clearly, while making sustained eye contact with the camera. I'm not sure this bodes well for us. What this team needs is a mumbler who looks in literally every direction besides directly at his audience.
RS: on whether sam will be the starting QB: TLDR i can't answer right now, lots of discussions, lots of decisions to make on the roster RS: on how much say he has in roster: collaboration between them. they will work together. final say is irrelevant
RS: on how close are the jets to being a winning team: i believable there is a lot of talent on the roster. how they fit will be decided in the next few weeks. working together with CJ and JD. it's about communication and doing our best. give players everything we can to help them be their best. everything we do form this day forward is to win.
the short version of what he said RS: on why people want to work for him: in my heart i believe there is a respect level with wanting to work together. players and coaches are in it together. it's not players play coaches coach. invest everything you have in your players. when players feel that they can't help but reciprocate. it becomes personal and special when this happens. this is the environment we want. where everyone invests in each other
I'm crying with laughter over here. When asked to describe why players love playing for him and working for him, Saleh goes in about his personal commitment to the players at the same level he commits to his own children. This guy is literally the anti-Gase.
CJ: on why he wanted saleh: slow build not a single moment. we knew a lot about him, everything we knew was reinforced when we met him. we knew we had our coach. it wasn't 1 thing. it's so many pieces coming together. JD shared the vision. it's going to be special going foward
RS: on what he liked about CJ and the jets: you can feel they are authentic. good circle of communication. felt a connection. loved the way CJ and JD worked together. felt like home like he was talking to his friends and family. excited to be here and humbled they wanted him
RS: on connections to NY: TLDR was asked about 911 and said it's fitting that he gets to have his 1st game as a HC the day after the 20 year anniversary. he was meant to be here
RS: on how he plans to coach entire team and if he will call plays: I won't be calling the plays. I have trust in my DC. we have the same philosophy. will maintain connections with all players and coaches and staff. will move in the direction we want together
