So in that scenario, the Jets would still have at least 1 pick in every round of the next two drafts in addition to the cap space to build around Watson. The Jets would be able to surround Watson with the type of talent and coaching that won their division 4/5 years and have the chance to build a real contender in the AFC.

Richard Shermans comments below. His comments are on point. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up here himself.

“If I was Deshaun, I’d get out of there as quickly as possible. I’d head to New York. … The Jets,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said on “The Cris Collinsworth Podcast,” which Sherman co-hosts.

“It would be the most beautiful. Decent offensive line. They’d have to find some threats, they’d have to find some offensive weapons, but I think there would be a lot more people excited to be there. I think the free-agency market this year is gonna be oversaturated because of the salary cap, but that’s what I would do. I’d be out of there on the first thing smokin’.”

i agree with you. if they will take the seattle picks, plus #2, or sam plus the #2, but we keep the 2 seattle first rounders, and they also get our 1st next year.

anything more than that, is too much and means we can't put a decent team around watson at qb.

Trading two 1's for him would be a total no brainer imo. Three 1's is where I start to get uncomfortable.

Let me answer even though you aren't asking me.

Just the #2 pick and Seatle's pick this year. That's it. #2 pick is worth 2 regular first rounders anyway. In a sense, we will be giving up 3 first for a disgruntled player who controls his own destiny.

The GM would say the truth — the likelihood of long term success is greater with Watson, and decisions cannot be made only thinking about how we can be better this year than last but how we can create sustainable success over a prolonged period of time. If Watson feels the need to take a year away from football we can’t stop him, and we look forward to welcoming him back next year and paying him $30 million dollars for the following four years in which our likelihood of success will be higher with him at QB than hoping we pick a replacement half as good.

When we go 6-10 next year and Watson is unhappy - we ain't getting all those 1st rounders back. SOJ.

Well if he's unhappy and we trade him, yes we will. But you've also concocted a story where first we trade for him, then we go 6-10, then he's unhappy so we're talking about something that isn't real and probably never will be.

Maybe but at least we won't be overpaying and stay true to the rebuild. I trust Joe D. Honestly. Even if he pays more than what I would give, I would still support his decision. Just leave him alone if he doesn't overpay for Watson. :)

I'd love to get him for no first round picks but I'm trying to be realistic. Our 2 first round picks trump Miami's. But if Miami throws in a first next year how do we not match that? Do we play the lottery and hope we get someone who will be as good as Watson? Do we sit and watch Watson go against us twice a year? If it was between us and an NFC team I'd be more willing to play chicken. But we already have Allen in the division and I'd hate to see Watson join him. We have to get through those two just to get a chance at Mahomes. The thought is frightening.

I know we could hit on a QB this year or next, or Sam could finally look like an NFL QB (cough, cough) but if the difference between getting Watson and the Dolphins getting Watson is one more 1st, I'm all for it.

P.S. fan since 1986 and I'm sick of watching piss poor QB play. So color me on the desperate side

Well that all depends on your definition of overpaying... if the Dolphins get him for a package comparable to something that would have gotten us Watson while also leaving us with first round picks each of the next two years, Joe D will have fucked up. Unless Watson said no to the Jets.

Look at his reaction to his first losing season in Houston. He signed a contract and turned into "Take the Money and Run" Watson. If he became disgruntled in NY his trade value would plummet to next to nothing. The way he has handled his career now makes him a way bigger gamble then people are suggesting.

The fact that you think he's unhappy because of a losing season is baffling.

Look at the mess that O'Brien made: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/houston-texans/
    [IMG]
In addition to a pick(s) and/or talent, the Texans will need cap relief in order to field 53 players. The Jets are the most likely suitor for Watson because they have the most cap space to eat some bad contracts. And, if you look at the link, there's a lot of potential bad contracts the Jets could eat in a trade. Here's just one example:

    Texans Trade:
    Deshaun Watson
    Bendardrick McKinney (he's not great -- https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/benardrick-mckinney/9476 )
    Randall Cobb (always injured -- https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/randall-cobb/6216 )
Texans' 2021 4th round pick (from Arizona)

    Jets Trade:
    Sam Darnold
    CJ Mosley
    Jets' 2021 1st round pick (#2 overall)
Jets' 2022 1st round pick (from Seattle)
Jets' 2022 3rd round pick (from Seattle)

Something like this bails out the Texans from the cap hell created by O'Brien. It also gives them options at QB, and a quality LB at a 1-year low cap hit. For the Jets, they get Watson, eat some contracts for a year, but are left with almost all their draft capital, plus Watson. But again, nothing happens if Watson won't waive the no-trade clause, and, ideally, only for the Jets.

I definitely know how good he is. Definitely a top 5 guy.

Max the thing is with that kind of haul how can we build around Watson? Watson camp should be pushing for the cheapest deal possible so JD can anti up around Watson. My Max is 2nd overall + 34th overall + 1st 2022. Then trade Sam for a 2nd to restock that pick and we still have 23rd for a piece.
