Knapp is actually really close friends with Gase. I remember hearing it was Knapp who recommended Pollock to Gase as OL coach.
I didn't say I agreed with it, my message was that nepotism is what he was talking about rather than misogyny or vanity. Did you read beyond the first word of what I posted?
Well, the potential for ironic entertainment is there, they may never actually make eye contact considering Gase never looks up from his clipboard.....
"When pressed on the specifics of his [defensive scheme] nuances [for an interview with 49ers.com], he opted to keep those close to the vest. Saleh did publicize his two mantras though: 'All gas no brake' and 'Extreme violence.' Players latched on to both and even sported rubber wristbands with the slogans written on them." -- https://www.49ers.com/news/finance-to-football-robert-saleh-s-story-of-pursuing-his-passion I like it!
I'm not at all concerned about our defense. I hope he and LaFleur have a plan to help us score more than 15 points per game. The best teams in the league put up literally twice as many points per game as us last season. We need a massive improvement on that side of the ball to have a chance at being good.
This will be the key for me in whether I continue to be a Jets fan or if I turn my back on the franchise. If Saleh comes in like most DCs and the Jets spend most of their FA $s and high draft picks on D, I'll realize there is little or no hope for the Jets, and whatever hope there is, will be 2-4 years down the road. Conversely, if he shows wisdom, uses most of the FA $s and all or almost all of the high draft picks this year on offense, and holds off on making major upgrades to the D until next year, then I will know that JD made the right hire and there is great reason to have hope going forwards. While the D is definitely missing key pieces at Edge/DE, #1 CB and OLB, the D is light years ahead of the offense in terms of talent and readiness to compete. It takes longer for the offense to gel, and this isn't a very good draft for Edge rushers or even CBs. It is a very good draft for QBs, WRs, OL and RBs. At least 3 of the first 4 draft picks should go to the offensive side. I'd prefer all 4, but could understand one pick going to the D, but that pick should not be in the 1st or 2nd round.
Same here. The draft should tell us most of what we need to know about JD+Saleh's philosophy on offense and whether or not they are modern thinkers.
the way he commanded the space... Captain Picard/.Saleh memes incoming https://media.giphy.com/media/bKnEnd65zqxfq/giphy.gif
