We would likely sit pat and take Lawrence imo.

That's what's most frustrating about missing out on the #1 pick. It would've made our entire offseason relatively easy and simple. Now we have question marks everywhere. Do we take a QB at #2? If so, who? Do we trade the pick? Do we trade the pick in a package deal for Watson?

No easy answers. Such is life when your franchise is insistent on winning meaningless games at the end of every loser season.

Thats a better deal then adding Darnold, but I don't know Darnold should still be valued here as a 2nd I think

I think Zach Wilson or Justin Fields + the picks is a better option.

    Definitely more questions than answers.

At 1 no matter what with Watson situation we would be taking Lawrence.

Now at #2 there are sooo many questions
    Trade or keep Darnold?
    Trade for Watson?
Use #2 and pick a FQB?
Use #2 trade back within top 10 + first next year?
Use #2 trade back for a kings ransom (3 first rounders) from a playoff team?

Seattle pick, darnold and next year #1...
otherwise stay put... draft around Darnold or draft Fields/Wilson with #2 and try to win with the extra picks and a rookie Qb contract.

I would trade Darnold for a 2 to a different team. According to Albert Breer, the asking price for Darnold is two 2nds.

If the Texans want Darnold and we can keep #34 then I would do that as well.

Oh man Darnolds asking price is 2 2nd rounders?!? So then Watsons would be what??? That’s just not accurate, Breer got his wires crossed

    #2
    2nd and 3rd rounder
2022 first (higher of the two)
    2022 second
    Darnold

    We get Watson and a 2022 3rd

Look at it from the Texans perspective. They're in cap hell with a starting QB who wants out.

So Texans look to the Jets. We can give them the #2 overall pick which will allow them to draft a top rookie QB on a 5yr rookie deal (Texan fans would appreciate that)....much better for team needing a rebuild. And they get to dump Watson's $150M cap fee for his contract. That should be it right there...good for both sides.

We get them out of cap hell, we take a malcontent off their hands, and we give them a top rookie QB on a 5yr rookie deal for them to build around. Bang.

Interesting one: how many of you would trade Trevor Lawrence and 2 first round picks for Deshaun Watson?

The answer to this should be zero and anybody that would do that trade needs serious help.

Lawrence is supposed to be the next big talent in the NFL. That pick is priceless especially given he's 21 years old and will have cost control for 5 seasons.

I wouldn't do that because I think there's a halfway decent chance Lawrence turns out to be as good as Watson. In which case the 2 first rounders and cap space are worth keeping. I'd definitely swap Lawrence for Watson straight up though.

I'd hope no one. That's the story of this draft. One QB makes you say "never would I make that trade" but the next QB makes you say "we'd be idiots not to make that trade".

In all fairness, Watson is *really* good and even Lawrence will have a hard time living up to him. People underestimate how good Watson is.

Watson is the best QB in the NFL not named Mahomes or Rodgers.

I personally wouldn't trade Lawrence + two 1sts for Watson. I'd rather take Lawrence and spend every draft pick and penny I have building the team around him so the window opens in years 3-5 of his deal.

The odds of Lawrence being as good as Watson are less than 50% in my eyes - that's how good Watson is to me - but the technicality in the presented scenario is that you don't need Lawrence to be elite like Watson, you just need him to be "very good" at minimum.

If Lawrence is a "very good" QB in the NFL on his rookie contract salary, and comes with two additional 1st round picks that's an ideal situation. The reason it's ideal is because Lawrence as a generational prospect has a very high floor - he's significantly more likely than every other QB in this draft, as well as those in the prior decade+, to reach that "very good" level. Anything above that is a bonus, but the perception that the threat of "BUST" being largely removed is a huge driver of Lawrence's value here.
