Interesting note - I never really thought about that. You can file this under his inability to adapt tab. I wonder if Rex has drawn any interest as a defensive coordinator over the past 5 years. Maybe he's turned it down? ESPN is still relatively demanding in terms of putting guys through the ringer but he's got a solid gig from probably 6-12 every day. I don't really see him popping up on other shows or radio shows throughout the day like they force a lot of people to do.
Since we last won the SB in 1969 some 50 some odd years ago doubtful there are very, very, very few TRUE NYJ fans left from time All others are just silly fans IMHO
I still maintain that if Favre stuck around for another year or two instead of going to Minnesota, the Jets would have won the SB in at least one of those years.
He’s pushing for Watson to come to NY. Ryan made the comments: "You know where he should end up. Come to the Big Apple right here and be the man. We still celebrate Joe Namath for all of those years being a Jet fan. Come to the Big Apple." https://www.si.com/college/clemson/football/rex-ryan-to-watson-come-to-the-big-apple
I don't think we ever get the Minnesota Favre here. Both because Schotty wasn't running his offense and because Favre just flat didn't want to be here.
his dad , buddy ryan, was web's top assistant coach. there is a pic on the internet of weeb on the sidelines in sb3, with buddy standing next to him.
back then, afl qbs called their own plays, except under paul brown at cincy with their messenger guards. the jets offense in sb3 was just : check with me at the line. when joe saw what defense the colts were in, he called plays to the weak part of that defense. btw, the jets did not throw a single pass in the 4th quarter. just like the 2nd meeting of the aafc champion browns in 1950 against the nfl champ eagles. after the browns crushed the eagles in the opening game, the philly press whined about the browns just throwing all the time and not playing real football. in the rematch, the browns won 16-? and did NOT throw a pass all game long! head coach, paul brown. top asst? weeb ewbank. two browns players? guard chuck noll and safety DON SHULA!
Favre was great here until he got hurt. Through week 12, that was one of the most fun Jets teams I remember watching. We were on such a high after the Jets beat the Pats and Titans (who were 10-0 at the time) in back-to-back weeks.
i still think rex is/was the perfect guy for us to at least get to the bowl. have to get saleh to put on some weight and sling around some F bombs.
