If someone wants Darnold, even for a 3rd and 5th round picks, you do it IMO.

I doubt Fields or Wilson would’ve thrown at the combine. You miss out on stuff like the 40 yard dash and interviews, but those are things you can see in a personal visit or pro day.

Both of them would be complete idiot to not throw at the combine, Wilson moreso. Their draft range goes from two to outside of the top 10. If I were them I would be trying to showcase myself as much as possible especially Wilson like I said, considering there are tons of questions about the level of competition he faced and the lack of exposure he had over the last season.

Why? Top quarterback prospects rarely throw at the combine because the environment is not controlled. They're throwing unknown routes to unknown receivers while being unfamiliar with their speed and cutting ability.

Yeah, and I agree. Like I said, if Saleh and Douglas like Fields or Wilson, they should draft them. Start over with the new Head Coach, new QB combo. Sam is not a sure thing to succeed, so moving forward with him is risky and could be costly. On the other hand, if they do that and he plays well, then the Jets are in great shape. To me, it is more about if they like one of these rookie QB's. We mostly know what we have in Sam. Saleh and his new OC LaFleur could make it work, but if they want to go in a different direction, I would support that. I would support keeping Sam too, I just find it risky.

TDK, a fresh start, new coach, new QB, Darnold has failed miserably, what burns me is the 3 wasted #2 picks, we would have drafted 3 blue chippers/starters

It does not look like combine was cancelled though. They said they will split it in pieces I assume to avoid huge gathering, which makes a ton of sense. However, I am pretty sure we will have measurements, 40 yards dash, etc, for everyone. Media needs this info to speculate on air, and we need to do the same here :)

You may not like Urban Meyer, but when it comes to College football, he does know a thing or two. Interesting take from him: https://www.deseret.com/sports/2021...ille-jaguars-no-1-overall-pick-2021-nfl-draft

Now, of course he is blowing some smoke up their asses by not saying outright he will select Lawrence, but I think he is genuine when he says this:

"You see Trevor, you see Justin, you see Zach … as (Jacksonville owner) Shad (Khan) said, this is a monumental moment for this franchise, and we’ve seen some franchises explode, and we’ve seen others fail,” Meyer said. “I’ve said this many times throughout my career is that when the NFL says it’s a quarterback league, I would say so is college, so is high school, so is Pop Warner. It’s a quarterback sport...Who we pick at that quarterback spot, that’s going to be one of the most important decisions I’ve made in my lifetime,” Meyer said. “... I like to use the term elite. I see some elite quarterbacks out there right now.”

It is easy for him to say of course, as he will pick Trevor, but the larger point remains. It is a QB sport, there are several elite QB in this draft, and getting one of them is one of the most important decisions for a GM in their entire lifetime. I really hope we don't just punt on this decision and stick with something that is not working, praying for a fix. Meyer clearly gets it, and I am sure JD does as well without talking too much about it as Jets situation is a bit more delicate.

You really think those picks would have been blue chip starters from Maccagnan draft?

I like the report from Mort saying the Jets will explore every avenue. That is what they should do. Any report saying Sam will be back or Sam won't be back right now would not make sense. They have a couple months to figure that out. That is literally Joe Douglas' job.

We do disagree to an extent. Yes, once he "fixes" his footwork, and it has become habitual, he definitely should be better, but he will NOT be better while he is in process of changing his footwork. He will still be inconsistent. He'll have to think about it every snap. He'll have to focus on it, and we know that when football players have to think too much about what they're doing, they neither play fast nor at their best. I have dramatically changed enough people's fundamentals that I am confident that he will struggle because it won't feel "natural" or comfortable. He won't know for certain if he's doing it right every time. It will take many, many repetitions for it to become "natural" and feel comfortable and where he won't have to think about it. That is the process of changing, but once it is changed, he definitely should be better. If he has been trying to fix his footwork, then the Bowles and Gates are even more stupid than I already thought, because they should have let Sam sit and fix his footwork once and for all, and started someone else, so that he had a real chance to succeed. We definitely agree that it is extremely hard to change mechanics under even optimum conditions, but for the Jets to expect him to fix his footwork while playing shows how fucking stupid they were/are.

I haven't dinged Darnold for his footwork. I have pointed out that after that poster posted that story about Darnold refusing to fix his footwork, that another poster posted something that contradicted the first story, and that I don't know for certain what the truth is regarding his willingness to change. I do feel certain that his footwork hasn't improved, and it should have by this point. Going into his 4th season, the only logical reasons for his footwork not being fixed are that he hasn't worked on changing his footwork, hasn't worked on it enough, or the team should have sat him while someone else played so he could focus on fixing it. If it's the latter, it's totally on the Jets. If it's one of the former, it's partially on Sam, but still on the Jets. If they expected him to play better and more consistently with bad footwork and didn't do what is necessary to help him get it fixed, then they're absolute and utter morons and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near athletes.

Even if he can reach above average, are you willing to wait 2-3 years for him to do so, knowing that he will probably be holding the team back? I'm not willing to wait. I wish him well, and hope that another team like the Lions or Falcons will trade for him and let him sit behind Stafford or Ryan for a year or two. Then he would have a chance. I have zero interest in extending him and hope that he improves in 2-3 years.

As far as anything being possible, I disagree in Sam's case. IMO it's simply not realistic to expect him to become average or above average in 2021.

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to keep Sam and also draft a QB. To me that shows that the new regime values the position.

If Darnold lights it up next year then we can have an interesting discussion.

I have no problem with keeping Sam as the "veteran" QB, but his 5th year option should not be picked up imo. If the are offered a 3rd round pick or better, however, I think he should be traded. Many here are concerned about wanting more draft picks. Sam could give us another pick in the top 100 plus maybe another pick that could be used to improve the team. If they bring him back and he plays poorly, then he leaves in FA and they get nothing. If they bring him back and he plays well, they won't be able to trade him unless they do a sign and trade deal, and if they have just drafted a QB in the 1st round, they won't keep him.

Because the Jets have such a high success rate with drafting second round talent the last decade.

Josh Allen has all day to throw. I don’t even care if we keep Sam or not but we need to make either Thuney or Scherff the highest paid Og in the league and then draft a center and RT this draft

Part of the reason Allen has all day to throw is that defenses hesitate when rushing him because if they attack him like they attack Sam, he'll run by them.

Except... Lamar Jackson had no time to throw.
