I learned a lot of things with this hire Jets are sticking with Darnold and they are draft penei or trading back also you look at SF boring run first offense with Kittle as the only real weapon thats what is coming to NY. Kind was hoping for a offensive mind to reinvent the Jets instead we will get more of the same think will make the playoffs win some games.
I understand, and agree at least until we find out whether they will be drafting a QB in the 1st round. If not, then I will probably bail on the Jets. If they do draft one of Fields and Lance, then I will be cautiously hopeful, and will root for them to succeed, but there will a lot of room for skepticism.
I haven't been onboard with a Jets coaching hire in years. It was obvious Gase was going to be a disaster from day 1. Some of the names that were getting thrown around (like Jason Garrett and Marvin Lewis) had me convinced that the Jets were going to blow it again - but I'm happy with this pick. Nobody can predict the future but finally the Jets made a smart decision and hired what appears to be the best candidate for the job (which convinces me that the Johnsons had little to no say in the decision).
I don't, and it shouldn't be in this draft. Regardless if Sam is still here as the QB or if they draft a rookie, if they don't build the offense around the rookie, they're fools!!! This is not a good draft for Edges. There are several with potential, but NONE with proven production like Young or Bosa. If JD wastes a high pick on an Edge rather than taking a QB, WR, OL or RB, I will freak and will think he should be fired. Even in FA, it should only be in play AFTER they have signed Thuney and one of Robinson/Godwin/Golladay/Davis. If they have the cap space after signing two proven offensive players, fine, but it shouldn't even be a consideration until then. I get that we have a former DC as HC and he will want to fix the D, but the D is in MUCH better shape than the offense, and if he has a brain at all, Douglas and he will focus on first and foremost fixing the offense this year. The D can wait until next year.
It's not the OC I'm worried about. It's the QB. We all know (or at least should know) how the last thing you want to do to a rookie QB is to make them have to learn 2-3 new systems their first 2-4 years in the NFL. If Sam is back, it will be his 3rd new system and 3rd new OC in 4 years. That's ridiculous and the way to ruin whatever potential a young QB has. Even though Saleh might not have any problems finding another OC who can run Shanahan's system, he may take a totally different approach with it, one that has a very different philosophy and set of plays. That is not ideal in any way, shape, or form. That's why when you're starting over at QB and doing a major rebuild, it's better to hire a former OC as the HC, because you know he's not going anywhere for the length of his contract unless he is awful like Gase and gets fired. If you make the right hire, then that isn't a concern. Hopefully, LaFleur won't go anywhere for at least 4 years. The Jets win only 6 games this season, 8 or 9 in 2022 but miss the playoffs, win 10 or 11 games in 2023 and make the playoffs, but have an early exit, then in 2024 the Jets get to and win the SB, and then LaFleur is hired away. If we draft a rookie, I won't be as concerned about him being negatively impacted if LaFleur is hired away after 2 or 3 years. With Sam, I think it would be an unmitigated disaster.
He’s talented enough to be taken high in the draft and is still 23 years old. He’s been poor but there’s definitely some plays and throws he makes that wow you. His situation has also been awful between coaching, oline, weapons, and plain old bad luck (mono). I agree that I’d probably go QB this draft but lots of smart people connected to the NFL are much higher on Darnold than we are.
I don't think that it necessarily means that they've made two deep playoff runs. It could just be that he has made significant progress towards fixing Sam and the Jets have made the playoffs in 2022.
Raheem Morris, used to be the Tampa Bay HC 2009-2011 I believe. That’s just off the top of my head, but I’m not sure there’s another example
Eh but according to who? Reports that JD has probably pumped into Schefter + friends? I don't think any franchise has any reason to be high on him. Regardless of situation, he hasn't shown much. That's not to say a rehabilitation project like Sam is impossible to fix but it's certainly difficult to defy the odds and become a good starting QB in the NFL after a bad three years and start to his career. Quarterbacks rarely survive their third head coach and offensive coordinator. Douglas and the front office are doing the right thing by propping him up as their starter. They'd be insane not to. We'll find out if they really believe it at the start of the league year and free agency/the draft.
Huh, what? Before this gets ugly I will just say you already lost your argument in the first sentence lol. Also the idea is for teams to develop roles and opportunities for people of color so they can jobs elsewhere, in return these teams get rewarded for that too. This has been long a issue, and I also think the Rooney rule is stupid. Token interviews suck, this actually brings diversity in leadership, inclusivity and a positive change
I just meant former players and NFL guys on twitter and ESPN etc...most of them are higher on Darnold’s future than Jets fans I have no idea how JD and Saleh feel but I can see both sides
I respect your opinion but you keep making the point that bringing in an offensive coach helps with offensive continuity and I don't understand your reasoning. It's not like the new coach offensive or not was going to run Gase's system and if he did I'd want nothing to do with him. Maybe I'm missing the point though.
I think what NC means is that if Saleh and LeFleur work out and turn the Jets around, Saleh will certainly remain here, but LeFleur might well get hired away after being here 2-3 years, so then we have to get a new OC who might want to put in a new system. However, if Saleh and Douglas are any good (I assume they are), they won't hire a guy who wants to make major changes to a system that obviously works well, so I think this argument isn't a huge issue.
