You can basically say that about 2 of the 3 guys mentioned (and I'm sure applies to Smith too but he's only been a coordinator one year). I mean every counter argument to Daboll's bad to pedestrian OC rankings has been talent, so why would it be any different here?
Daboll in the playoffs concerns me. Last year he abandoned what was working for Buffalo in their playoff collapse against Houston and last week against the Colts he called a scared game considering he never made the playoffs as OC in his 3 other stops its all we have to go off of
Why havent we locked in Saleh yet.....I think this would be our best hire since Rex.Ive read some articles about him and apparently hes a great motivator etc.....Sounds great after Gase who couldnt motivate a homeless person to take a dollar out of his hand.
What a luxury it is to have people getting upset about the possibility of getting Sewell and Najee Harris with 2 of our 9 picks.
If they're seriously interested in Smith and 1 or 2 others as well, they're not going to lock up Saleh. They will talk with the others before they make a decision. They said that they were not going to rush this time and they shouldn't.
He could be. If he is, hopefully JD will see that and hire him. I still think we need an offensive minded HC. I doubt any OC is going to totally forget about the unit that he has spent years obsessed with. Our offense needs a heck of a lot more work than our D. Being dead last in TDs scored per season is just one example of that. The last thing we need to do is draft a new QB either this year or next year, but then all the other picks go to Defense and we not build around that QB. We can get by with our D for another season, but not with our offense. Major strides have to be taken this offseason to fix our OL and our offense, and we need our new QB so the offense can be designed around him.
I totally disagree. Why would it mean that Darnold will stay? He can't make good quick decisions, which the WCO wants in their QBs. It also demands great accuracy and ball placement with so many slants and short routes thrown in the middle of the field. I may be mistaken, but believe we have run a modified WCO at least one year that Darnold has been here. I don't how you'd classify Gase's offense except as "offensive" or "awful."
To be fair though that run game has been BAD. The OLine can’t open up lanes. Their whole offense is predicated on Allen, both the run and pass.
He adapted their system to the talents of his players. Before Smith, Henry was nowhere near the star he is now. Tannehill is very good at play action and Smith incorporated a lot of that. He and Daboll are the only two candidates who have coached the other side of the ball. I don't know how you can expect a guy to be a CEO-type HC and coach the whole team when he has coached just one side of the team his whole career and that's all he knows. With Smith, we could be confident that most of the FA $ and high draft picks aren't going to be used on D. With Saleh, we'd have no such confidence or assurance.
