Love the doom and gloom. Since no player in this draft is worthy of the second overall pick here is what they should do.

    1) Trade down and stockpile 2022 draft picks
    2) Hire Tank Commander Doug Pederson
    3) Trade a 7th round pick for Nate Sudfeld to battle it out with Darnold and James Morgan

With the Jags out of the picture the #1 pick could be ours!

How about.. Keeping Sam, Drafting Smith and then stocking the roster with talent this year and next.. Smith could be this generation's Keyshawn without all the drama.

It is against Jets policy to have elite playmakers on offense.

I'd also grab Trey Lance with the second first rounder as insurance for Sam.

Not a slam dunk JD drafts a QB at 2. I can see him going one more year with Sam and stocking the roster around him even further. Entirely new dynamic with a new HC and Staff for Sam. I think JD is gonna roll with Sam one last time.

Ah? If you are implying another year of heavy loses, or worst, expecting the team to tank. Nonsense. FORGET THAT BAD JOKE. It was stupid in 2020, insanely so for another year.

I'd like to shoot a little bit higher then Keyshawn. Maybe Cris Carter or Randy Moss? Marvin Harrison?

    Ya know. All-Pro/HOF types.

Keep Sam and build a team around him....the 'build a team around him' applies to WHOEVER our QB is. Sam or new one (Fields, ect).

We can accelerate our 'build a team' by passing on drafting a new QB and applying all our draft stock towards team building.....BUT I can't see JD doing this. Sam MIGHT be great, but he MIGHT not be, and I can't see JD hanging his hat on Sam and only Sam.

Unless JD see Fields as a Mahomes part duex, he's not burning our top pick on him. Now if we were drafting 10th overall like last year, JD would probably have to burn his top pick on a QB. But we're picking #2 overall, which means JD will have plenty of room to drop back, pick up valuable draft picks, and STILL get one of the top 3 QBs in the draft.

Ask yourself this: Which is better? Fields by himself, or some other QB with DeVonta Smith? That's the point. JD COULD burn his #2 on Fields. Or drop back, pick up another draft pick he can use on a top WR, then draft another QB a bit later.

Put Sam in a run heavy, rollout left/right style offense. he’ll shine. Gase used Sam wrong. He can throw accurately off platform in either direction. He’s not a guy who can be a statue in the pocket...yet.

That’s why plucking from the 49ers/Shanahan is the 2nd smartest thing versus trading actually Darnold to the 49ers and getting picks.

Both are options should be on the table.

I don't know. The last generation's Keyshawn wasn't all that.

I try not to take mocks too seriously but the new I just saw has Smith going # 23 to the Jets. I thought the reasoning was sound, slight frame, more of a slot receiver and the number of WR in the draft just like last year. We should all take a deep breath and let Douglas and his staff do their work. He will waiting for calls and offers that are sure to come. When your roster the worst in the league one player is not going make a big difference.

Exactly. There's a price to everything. If we take emotion completely out of it and just ask ourselves what the chances are of a QB like Sam improving into even an average QB it's about a 10% chance. And again, that's his likelihood of ever becoming just average.

It doesn't make sense to forgo trading him for a 3rd or 4th round pick when the odds of him improving enough are so slim. Smart teams cut the cord before it's completely obvious to everyone that a guy stinks. Once it's obvious the guy has no value left.

    100%

Even if we trade Sam that doesn’t mean we are forced to draft a QB at 2nd overall either. We spent a pick on Morgan last year why not see what he’s got and sign a vet.
