I didn't say I was describing you. I was just making a point about people using faulty reasoning or jumping to conclusions. I also didn't say that Daboll had put up great numbers with mediocre QBs? I asked you to name OCs who had done that, the point being that it's not bloody likely that an OC is going to have a great ranking or his offense will put up big numbers if his QB is mediocre. That was my point in saying that it was ridiculous to write off Daboll because his rankings were never good until this year. I don't think that ANY OC in existence could have put up great numbers with those wretched QBs.
After reading 7 pages of comments, I've gone from "absolutely no way to Pederson" to "I want to find out what really happened with his "tanking" the last game". IDK if that's possible. If he was ordered to pull Hurtz he'll never say nor will the FO, and even if players give their opinion that's all it is because they won't know what really transpired between Pederson and the FO. But if he really did tank, I'm against hiring him. That's a big red "T" on his resume, and sends a loud and clear bad message to players. I have to assume Douglas can find out what really happened, and whichever way it went, if Douglas is good with hiring him, I'm going to trust his judgment, but someone who purposely throws a game(s) for whatever reason isn't someone I want coaching for me.,
I completely disagree. He was with Allen from the beginning, and that worked out very well. We give him same exact situation, where he already succeeded: new talented QB with all the tools, whom he can groom from the start.
Gotcha, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were asking me to find an OC who put up great numbers with medicore QBs the way Daboll has. But for the record... Goff is mediocre, that offense ranked 11th in yards. Fitzpatrick is mediocre/Tua was mediocre at best, the Dolphins offense finished right in the middle of the pack in points. Derek Carr... mediocre and the Raiders offense finished 4th in passing yards. Kirk Cousins, the very definition of mediocre and the Vikings offense was top 4 in yards, top half in passing yards. Mediocre and bad QBs are elevated by the scheme and coaches. Daboll has never ever done that outside of one year where he had elite talent to mess with surrounded but top level talent to support him. That's a huge red flag for me.
Eagles were pure garbage this year! Watched a couple, it was almost as bad as watching the jets Offense! Yikes. Peterson had something to do with that shitshow that was the 2020 eagles. So I am still a NO! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't. Not at all. I can see why you or anyone might think or feel that, but I don't think that's the case. I think because the Jets can take Fields with the #2 pick, and he's a very similar player to Allen.
I agree. The poor guy's been there/done that with the mediocre QBs. Why in the heck would he want to work with another in Darnold?
I would think the opposite... Daboll just showed what he can do when he has a QB to mold from day 1. Whether or not he actually CAN and it wasn't just a product of the talent around him remains to be seen.
You can't say that Daboll has never done that. You don't know what those teams and those QBs would have produced without Daboll. It could have been a lot worse! Even if you're correct, however, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be hired as HC. We're not interviewing him for OC, but with what he did with Allen this season, he could be in a similar situation here with Fields, Robinson, Mims, Crowder, Harris and maybe even Herndon. He has proven that he can produce when given tools with which to work. Asking Daboll or any OC to produce with that list of QBs is like asking a contract to build a house with only a rock and a butter knife.
How do you know that getting a 22 ranked O wasn’t elevating guys like Chad Henne and Matt Moore? Or 24 was elevating year 2 Josh Allen? They were a defensive team that year playing complimentary football.
I think the term CEO is getting over used. I want a leader who can get along with others, has a vision for the team, who can hire a good staff and delegate well. Which mostly is what they mean by CEO type but it gets lost. What I don't want is another asshole. Someone who cannot get along with others or be a role model for a selfless leader. I don't want a young coach or a flavor of the month coach. Which is why Daboll scares me so much. But, I will say this the most important part of a coach we all have no clue as to what these assistant coaches have. The ability to lead and inspire others, the ability to hire a staff, the ability to command respect and so on. We don't know. A hire like Gase we knew because there was plenty of dirt about his problems in Miami but assistant coaches we don't know. I would argue that young assistants under 50 have the biggest failure rate as they often lack the maturity and experience to be a head coach. Often young head coaches rather than earn players respect through reputation will over compensate and destroy themselves with bad behavior like Mangini, haley, Mcdaniels, etc. I am also scared of flavor of the month OCs. They rise and fall so fast. Essentially what I am saying here is if we hire an assistant we have to trust JD as we have very little information to go on.
Not so sure Lurie was involved with that pick, it sure seems like Pederson had a say though. The question is why did they make that pick after signing Wentz to a 4 year deal? If Pederson wasn't sold on Wentz you don't sign him to that contract (see Sam Darnold situation). If you sign him you are committing to him so there is no need for Hurts. It seems like Philly pulled a jets like move. Philly is really screwed now, Wentz wants out and Hurts is at best a bottom 7-8 QB in the league.
I could see Daboll, who is coming off #2 ranked offense, 13 win season, groomed Allen, which is relevant because we will have a young QB, coming hot off a divisional title, play-off win, maybe more than one even... But why Eberflus? #8 rated defense this season, #16 last year, #11 a year before, which is definitely good considering they were bad before, but this just sounds like a good defensive coordinator. Not much success in play-offs too: 1 win. Had 10, 7, 11 wins in regular season. I just don't see much difference from Bowels, was always surprised why we got him.
I mean one can link the success that Pederson had to Frank Reich. Offensive coordinator and the QB coach left and it went downhill for him. That is not a good sign. We just hired a coach who got fired who seemed to be really disliked in the locker room. Why even attempt to redo that? There are other options out there. Let's go new and not reused if you know what I mean. Man I must really not want doug pederson because I came in here to emphasize that. lol
Maybe Hurts was a sort of compromise pick between them because he can play QB but was also getting chatter about converting to WR in the NFL? Either way it goes to show how badly things can go when the HC and GM aren't on the same page. Something we know all too well.
He was limited by Tanehill being a game manager. Give him a better QB like Deshaun Watson who is a natural gunslinger and scrambler, you will get a dangerous combination on offense.
I don't think so. Why would any new coach lock themselves to Darnold when they can get a shiny new QB at #2 in either Fields or Wilson. Plus, they're going to have to pay Darnold at the end of the year.
