I would presume that Joe is in a great position to find out what happend in Philly. Both from Doug and the front office in Philly. That mess of a departure is going to have hit pieces from the media from both sides. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Unless JD knows exactly what went on in Philly and he has to be 100% certain he knows then I'd pass. I don't know if Pederson or Reich gets credit for Wentz but it sure seems like Pederson needs to take the blame for how Wentz shit the bed this year. Is that who you want to bring in for a Sam reclaimation project or to coach up the shiny new QB they draft? Too much rides on this coaching decision, probably more than which QB to draft this year. JD better be right if he brings him in or they'll be ruining another QB and hiring yet another new coach after its clear the new QB is damaged goods because of coaching.
Why were people salivating over the possibility of McCarthy two years ago and now repulsed by the possibility of Pedersen? Pedersen has achieved the same, with far less, over a smaller timeframe (which can be positive or negative, granted). He's everything virtually the entire forum was screaming for two years ago: experienced, offense minded, aggressive play caller who has demonstrated that he changes game plans based on his players' skill set. On second thoughts, Pedersen autocorrects to Petersen, just like Gase to Base. That's some bad karma shit.
Looks like Pederson lost the locker room too. I am really torn on this one. It kind of reminds when Jim Harbaugh exited 49ers, except Jim finished with respectable 8-8 record and didn't blatantly try to tank a game, and never lost locker room. Still the guy got a lot out of his QBs until now, won a lot, and was a QB in College too, and QB coach. No one is perfect of course, but I just don't know if the gamble is too big on someone whose current players don't even respect.
Yeah there's some major recency bias with our fanbase going on. If not for the controversy around the Eagles' last game this season we'd be thrilled to get Pederson. As you stated he checks most of the boxes most of us want in a HC.
Does he call plays or is he the same as Bienemy and the clown that is our OC /QB coach who I also can't believe didn't get sacked at the same time as Gase ffs Edit sorry he is the DB's coach at the Saints I thought he was the OC
You may be forgetting, but majority of fans didn't want Mike, though I agree some did. A lot of people wanted Rhule too. Also, the choices were limited, it basically came down to Mike, Gase, and Rhule. A lot of people wanted Rhule, and Rhule rejected the job later anyway. What's important though is that Mike didn't do much good for his new team, while his old team did better without him. Knowing that now even people who wanted him before probably changed their minds by this time. I must admit, if they just lost last game, without tanking and losing locker room, I would have a lot less question marks too. But then he would probably not be fired. Losing locker room though is a huge negative for the coach. Add to that Johnson's recent statements about mentality to win every game, and I doubt we end up with Doug.
First of all. I think that decision came from up top. Clearly he wasn't given the green light to tank, he was fired. So tanking doesn't make sense there as a plausible motive for, Pederson. A couple guys were upset, that might be true, doesn't make any sense to me though because at that point, who really gives a shit? It's not like they were looking at going winless or anything. I've seen much crazier decision's come from coaches, this isn't a big deal to me personally. The article seems to be reaching a bit, but, it's food for thought none the less.
I'd be very surprised if this was more than an organization giving one of its former star players some shine on his come up. Good karma for the Jets, and helpful to Aaron as well as he continues to put together his resume on the coaching side.
because they soured on coaches with experience after the Gase failure. Which is unfair, Pederson ain't Gase, Gase ain't every coach, etc..
One good thing that came out of this is that tanking didn't help coaches keep the job, so hopefully such blatant tanking will be discouraged as it endangers entire system of draft NFL has. With all that said, Pederson at the time he tanked didn't think he would be fired. So his motivation was getting a higher pick and improving the team for next year, as his GM did a pretty shit job, which made it harder for the coach. I don't know if that's why he did it, but I think it is clear he did not try to win this game. For you it may not be a big deal, but if a coach is not respected by players around the League, even if he won SB before, it may be a tough sell. Think about the action Philly did: fire the ONLY coach who won the city a SB just 3 years ago, with two other play-offs appearances, additional play-off win, and another divisional title. To pull the trigger on that requires some incredibly serious reason, not just one losing season. I am not sure how that reason applies to the Jets, but if it is because of having no respect amongst players, it's going to be tough to recover from that.
They may well have a better read on the situation, but based on the comments I've heard about the lack of intelligence and class of Eagles fans over the years, I wouldn't bet on it.
Thank you! I didn't have time to look up who his QBs, skill position players, or HCs were, but I suspected that they were of this level. For anyone to knock Daboll because of his offensive rankings when these were the sorry ass QBs that he had to deal with is laughable, and again says nothing about the job he could do as a HC.
Rockinz I have to give you your props. You were on Josh Allen 3 years ago and I was chirping we don't need any Wyoming QB. But Allen has grown and he's going to be something the Jets will have to deal with in our division. He had a great year. So you were a visionary. Nice going.
This is the crux of the situation. I do have a question, could Carson Wentz contract and not being able to get rid of that contract have something to do with that decision? I can see one way this situation cost Pederson his job, during his interview with owner, he was asked if Carson Wentz was his starter and Doug said he will do what’s best for the team even if it means sitting Wentz in favor of Hurts, his honest answer may have not been acceptable to Eagles ownership.
Putting it together from other posters: "Daboll’s overall offensive rankings as an OC are as follows: 2009 (CLE, QB Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson) - 32 2010 (CLE) - QB Jake Delhomme, Colt McCoy- 29 2011 (MIA, Chad Henne, Matt Moore) - 22 2012 (KC, Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn) - 24 2018 (BUF, Josh Allen (Rookie) - 30 2019 (BUF, Josh Allen (Improved, also made playoffs)) - 24 2020 (BUF, Josh Allen, Pro Bowl, got play-off win) - 2" Nothing on defensive side of the ball. Helped develop Allen into top QB. Has play-off experience and win as OC. Is hot now with #2 offense being the most recent. Can weaken Buffalo if he leaves and maybe takes QB coach with him as OC. It's not a bad record, factoring QBs he had. But it is also not a great record. May be worth a shot, probably one of the best candidates we have interviewed so far.
I wasn't salivating over McCarthy two years ago. I thought (and still do) that he's an old-fashioned, conservative coach who was made to look better than he is by Aaron Rodgers, and who caused Rodgers to only win 1 SB to date, when Rodgers is the GOAT QB. With any kind of HC at all, Rodgers should have won at least 3-4 SBs by now, if not more.
