The Pederson “tired of being told what to do” makes me wonder if he was told he had to continue to play Wentz, and was told he had to play Sudfeld. Who knows about all that though. Obviously the comparisons to Gase don’t make sense, he went to the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons and has a 4-2 postseason record including a Super Bowl win over the Patriots. I’m definitely torn on the idea of bringing him on board, I see clear pros and cons. He has a really good overall track record. I find it interesting that he is 4-1 with Foles in the postseason and 0-1 with Wentz/McCown in the postseason. They were in position to win that Wildcard game last year against the Seahawks, even with McCown playing a lot of that game. Everyone was super high on Pederson based on his first 4 years as a HC, and it really only took a turn this year when Wentz completely fell apart. And to be 100% honest, people weren’t even really that down on Pederson until the final quarter of that last game, his 80th regular season game as HC. This is one that feels like a heavy recency bias of negativity.
I wonder how much that Week 17 embarrassment played into his firing? Maybe nothing. It definitely is a reason many Jets fans have limited interest though. That rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe that wasn't Pederson's choice, but I think it was. He is (was) the Head Coach.
So did Matt Nagy -- I saw his U of D Commencement speech ! -- and the Chicago press now hates him and wants him gone.
Pederson lost the respect of his players, I'll pass. Plus, I can't get the bad taste of the last time we took a recently fired Eagles coach out of my mouth. Yeah, I know, they're not the same.....still.
Well I watch the Bills a lot and I’ve been impressed with Daboll and the way he approaches each game differently. I’m not sure exactly when I said it, but Daboll was my early favorite for HC I think as far back as like week 4ish? I think any credit for the Bills offense has to really go to both Daboll and Allen equally.
It's seeming like Pederson didn't want to play Wentz but was getting pressure to play him from Roseman. That would make sense, Roseman wanting to play the guy he just gave a ton of money to in order to try to save face for paying him. I don't see that as a knock on Pederson if that was what happened.
According to every eagles fan I've seen mention it it came from up top. Also why would any jets fan care about it? Such a dumb, manufactured "controversy".
Well watching is more research than I've done so I'll take your word for it, lol. I'm not totally against Daboll, just not my first choice and wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work out.
Any sane coach would have wanted to bench Wentz way earlier, and Pederson was taking a lot of heat for not doing it. Who can say if he was told to or not, that stuff may come out later but we won’t know for sure.
I must admit, his resume is top notch. This is a SB winning coach just 3 years ago. He didn't have a good season, but this is the first year in last 4 when he didn't make play-offs. Won two divisional titles too, though he was in garbage division. Still though 9-7 record, plus a play-off win in 2018, plus a divisional title with 9-7 record after his SB year is pretty decent. There are really few things though that are of concern. Wenz has regressed this year to the point where he was basically as bad as Sam. That was his worst year in his career including rookie season. Granted you also have to give Doug some credit for Winz's success to begin with, but last season was really bad for both QB handling and record perspective - in the weakest division in NFL. Something must have been really off or Philly would not firing him after one bad year. Another point of note is that he tanked way too blatantly in that game against Washington, like a complete asshole, and Johnson was just saying how he wants mentality to win every game.
Nooooo. Tired of picking coaches who have proved to be done. His day of being good has passed. Tired of this
I'm posting this again because I keep seeing the idea that Wentz was wrecked under Pederson come up multiple times like it is a fact. There is ample statistical evidence that Wentz has actually never been a great QB, had one year where he had an unsustainable amount of good luck to go with poor underlying metrics, and a bottom tier QB is basically who he is - and has always been. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/12/carson-wentz-philadelphia-eagles-struggles-2017-mvp-season-analysis
i kind of agree here too....there was a reason he was fired. Good bad or indifferent there’s a reason. Taking a year off to regroup wouldn’t be the worst thing for him. for us, I also have a bit of a hesitancy about rushing to hire a coach who was just fired. clearly, he’s proven to be a much better coach than Gase ever was, but still... I think we have an in because I assume JD knows him pretty well, so I do trust JDs call on this. It will speak volumes
Yeah, I was basing my previous post on something I just saw about how Wentz wants to stay with the Eagles now that Pederson is gone. Hard not to infer there being major tension between the two.
