Way to early for this but why not. will likely change a lot in the next few months with free agency and the combine but anyway Trades Sam darnold to 49ers for a 2nd rounder and a future 2022 pick (up to a 3rd based on playing time) 49ers aren't picking high enough for a top QB and are moving on from garappolo. they have the D and run game to get by with darnold at QB. it's also similar to the trade they made for jimmy g. 1-2) QB Justin fields - it's clear it's time to move on from sam. with a new HC and our new GM we should have a new QB. sam has not looked good this season at all. Right now I prefer fields to the rest of the options we would have available here 1-27) WR Rondale Moore - we should have a late 1st around 27ish form the seahawks. With this pick we need to add another WR. even if we sign a free agent right now we only have mims, crowder, and berrios on the roster. Moore can contribute right away in the berrios role this year. The small speedster is a playmaker and will add a needed boost to the offense robby provided us before 2-34) CB Tyson Campbell - jets need help at CB badly. bless is still looking like a solid CB, hall and guidry performed nicely. jackson has been ok as a depth guy. campbell can start on the outside and guidry in the slot while bless and hall fight for the other side. jackson is CB5. the group won't look so badly with this addition 2-46) OT Walker Little - was a top 10 talent but after an injury and an opt out will fall. I've seen some mocks have him falling as far as the 3rd round but I don't think he does. this is who we grab with the niners pick we got for darnold. he'll be our RT for the next decade and bookend with becton 3-64) Edge Quincy Roche - With our 1st pick in the 3rd We look to add an edge rusher to go opposite of huff. Roche fits the bill. a speedy edge rusher with good production. luvu and basham likely round out our OLB group for 2021 3-90) C Drake Jackson - As we continue to build the o-line adding jackson could be huge. yes mcgovern played well the 2nd half and is signed for a while but he can also be moved to OG which is where our main issues are. Jackson can start at center and mcgovern can slide over to RG to replace the awful GVR. at LG we will have lewis, elfien, and clark as options who can battle for the starting job. Now overall I know it's not a sexy instant impact draft but it's one that builds a future. we can sign a vet QB like fitzpatrick and have fields earn the job over him. little will be starting RT in 2022 as will jackson at C. Marshall won't see much time unless he balls out in camp or we don't sign a big FA WR. campbell is likely the one to see the most playing time out of these players
No thanks on Rondale Moore. Purdue runs every gadget play in the book to get him the ball because he's not a pure receiver. Definitely doesn't have strong hands through contested catches. He reminds me a lot of Tavon Austin. I doubt Roche falls that far. Why wouldn't the 49ers keep their own bottom tier QB than to trade two premium picks for ours who is much lower on the scale?
I like the idea of the picks as I think it falls in line with JD’s MO. I’m not super familiar with Campbell so I’ll have to do some research on him but I like all of the other picks, especially Drake Jackson. Some may remember me pounding the table for the Jets to take Lynn Bowden last year and Drake Jackson will be that UK guy for me this year. I think he’s got huge potential as a starting C in the NFL. Have heard nothing but great things about his work ethic, he was a huge part in UK having one of the best OL units for the past 2 seasons. He seems to be the kind of guy that fits JD’s criteria too of being a leader and a guy that helps build a winning culture.
I'm still up in the air on a lot of picks. another guy i'd be looking at in the 2nd is daniel faalele. I'm not sure if he can be a RT in the NFL but I think he's a guy who can be slid inside to be a OG and is just a monster of a man. he makes becton look small. that'll give us some power man handling lineman. With seattles pick in the 3rd if we don't take a WR in the 1st I could see a guy like toney falling. it's a pretty stacked WR class again. and I think we will need a YAC guy. he's expected to be a mid 2nd round guy but maybe it's a move where we can trade back from the 2nd pick in the 2nd round and grab toney a few picks later and get more picks. I think JD trades down a lot this draft. I can see that. i wouldn't mind waiting a round and grabbing toney instead. I think we need a gadget YAC type of WR. we really don't have that. Toney migt be better value then moore. as far as the niners trading goes it's the same reason we would move on from sam. there is always a team thinking we can fix him when it comes to a top 5 pick QB who's only 23. they are done with jimmy g. they need a QB they won't be picking high enough to land a top one. their offense also protects the QB. they have YAC guys with kittle and deebo and a dominent run game, defense, and o-line. they looked worse this year becuase injuries but they are a borderline playoff team even with jimmy g. darnold is an upgrade to him and for them they could get a FQB cheaply. yeah another option is humphrey if he falls to us with our 2nd rounder. Mcgovern was really good but we need to look at the OG position. if we draft a center mcgovern can slide back to OG so it improves 2 positions with 1 pick.
There are much better options for the 49ers to explore, even if it takes more capital, than to trade for Darnold. They don't need a rehabilitation project, they need a quarterback to put them over the hump and win playoff games. I'd imagine they pursue Stafford, Matt Ryan, maybe the price tag on Dak (doubt he leaves Dallas though), maybe Jameis Winston, maybe they kick the tires on Philip Rivers if he leaves Indianapolis and doesn't want to retire. If they are that dead set on getting a young quarterback why wouldn't they draft one? They pick 12th and I'd imagine Lance or Wilson could be available there. Maybe they go with Mac Jones or Kyle Trask in the second or even move up to secure Lance or Wilson in the first. I could see the 49ers taking a bit of a flyer on Darnold with a low capital trade but I'd have a hard time believing they're going to buy high on him AND be content with him as the opening day starter. Jimmy G sucks but at that point I'd imagine they roll with him before dealing with Darnold. Tannehill was a much more successful NFL QB when the Dolphins traded him and the deal was their 6th round pick and Tannehill for a 4th and a 7th. I think the reality is that regardless of what people thought of Darnold as a prospect, his value doesn't suddenly increase when he has three years of bad NFL film to sift through.
I get that but it's not really their way. John lynch trades for young players with potential and doesn't sign stop gaps. That's why he traded for jimmy g. where he gave up a 2nd for him. Right now they are picking 12th. it's a good chance tlaw, fields, and lawerence are all gone when they pick. which means their options are draft lance or draft a top player on offense and trade their 2nd for a 23 year old former top 3 pick QB. A QB who comes in surrounded by a good o-line, top run game, top defense, and can be there for the next decade if it works.
Lynch did not trade for Garroppolo. He was traded in October 2016 and they hired Lynch in January 2017. What young players have they traded for with potential other than Laken Tomlinson (traded a fifth rounder for him)? They traded for aging Emmanual Sanders and Trent Williams. I'll remain that a team would most likely prefer to draft a young quarterback and indoctrinate them into their culture and system as a blank slate than trade for another franchises broken player. Especially at the QB position and for a player that simply hasn't produced (even if the circumstances are less than ideal).
Hate to break it to you, but Garoppolo was traded in October 2017, which was when Lynch was the 49ers GM.
he was traded oct 2017 and lynch did it https://www.49ers.com/news/49ers-trade-for-qb-jimmy-garoppolo-19676322?sf129406143=1 Sanders was one of their vet trades for 1 season mid year when they were making a SB run and needed a WR badly. trent williams is older but an OT and will be around for another 3 years or so as a pro bowl lineman. For QB though lynch will want someone young and cheaper with potential. like he did with jimmy g
