I wouldn't hate this outcome. It's not ideal for me but I definitely agree that smart teams trade down quite often. It makes a lot of sense from a lot of angles. Combined with our picks next year we could build a very young, talented team quite quickly.

The thing I always go back to though is that you have a certain ceiling as a team if you don't have at least a "good" QB. I don't want us to get into this purgatory situation where we're good enough to go 9-7, 10-6 consistently but not good enough to actually compete for a title. We'd also be good enough to where we'd have no shot at a top QB prospect unless we trade a bunch of picks.

Admittedly a small sample, but the three times the Ravens/Ozzie drafted a 1st round QB, they traded up to get him. Most notably, in 2008, the Ravens traded down from 8 to 26 (picking up picks 71, 89 and 125), then later moved up, trading pick 26, 89 and 173 for pick #18, which was used for Flacco. They also traded up in the past for Lamar (brilliant) and Kyle Boller (not so brilliant)

Obviously the stakes and picks are higher here, but worth noting. Also, with this in mind, if you believe the draft charts, picks 23 + 36 = pick 10 (though there's usually a premium in trading up).

I am NOT the best talent evaluator for Tackle and or Offensive lineman but if he is in the same mold as the like of Ogden, Pace, Jones it would be idiotic to not select him.

I mean if he is the Trevor Lawrence of LT and he is once in a decade tackle that would be a great selection, no?

Reports are that he is the next Anthony Munoz.

Immediate fallout is we lose NCJ and a few others here who throw up their hands in disgust.

We should have had him. Our medical people flunked him.

He’s going no where, he has endured two of the worst years any Jet fan could live through, only way he leaves is when Jets relocate to San Diego.

There are 2 reasons why I'm not on the draft Sewell bandwagon. One, it's our guards that need to be replaced. Two, we need a QB and a good prospect will likely be available at 2.

Other than Lawrence there is no other QB worth taking at 2, let some one else reach for Fields or Wilson.

Take the immediate impact player with your first three picks, those 3 picks are going to be day one starters. You still have 6 more picks in this draft to strengthen the team.

Curious...where do you think Fields or Wilson should be picked ?

Did Fields move up in your eyes after the Clemson game ? What if he has a great game tonight ?

I have never been smitten with Fields like many other posters are, it’s their right and I respect them for liking him and the numbers he has put up.

I was asked to explain why I like TL over all other QBs, and the way I explained it was like this....TL has proven after three years against all types of competitors and situations that he is capable and will live up to his end of the bargain as a QB, you always have a chance with him.

Even in the loss to Ohio State he did his part, 33-48-400 yards. That was after the run game was shut down and the Clemson defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed.

In my opinion Fields does not have that, Fields may acquire that if he stays in school one more year as he has only played for 1 1/2 years but at this moment I would not say that he gives the team a chance to win under any circumstance.

I like Wilson a lot, looks very comfortable playing the position of QB, even though he gets criticized for the loss against Coastal Carolina, what gets lost is the fact that he drove the team from their 10, down the field and gave them a chance to win the game.

I would say they are mid first round picks, especially if they have to sit and develope.

I don’t judge Qbs on one or two games, they all have good and bad games it’s the resume and the technical stuff like, feet, release, instinctual play, squaring up to throw, making reads.

And again, Mark Sanchez looked very good after his 16 starts at USC including a very strong performance in his one major bowl game.

I believe Pete Carrol was the only one who encouraged him to stay in school a little longer and acquire more experience.

Sewell the hot name again with Saleh here. I don't know if he is open to RT, but I'd love to never have to worry about our offensive line much again

JD has repeated over and over how he wants to build up the oline and dline because he believes that’s where the game is won. Now you have a HC that obviously has same ideology.

I don’t think you will see DT being taken by JD but I can see both these guys salivating at the thought of being able to wear down the opposing defenses with a powerful oline and imposing their will.

Conversely they are looking at DE and possibly LB that can fill in blanks in Saleh new defense.

Not worried, he was physically dominate with fantastic technic at 18. He’s every bit the physical freak that Becton is, but a lot more polished. Safest pick in the entire draft.

    Not at all.
He was dominant before College and he has been a star player everywhere. Actually it is quite ok he has not played so he did not pick some major injuries.
Now the real question will he dominate the combine, is he going to be far away better than his peer? And did he took the time off seriously with a great training regime. If he did not that would be a major red flag.

IMO the Jets have to take him. It does not look sexy on paper but down the road people would appreciate him and his impact just like the Jets did with D'Brickashaw Ferguson and recently Mehki Becton.

The craziest thing is that he is even better than the brick wall and Becton.
