I think it was @94Abraham that said this is like Stockholm Syndrome with Darnold. Darnold had every card in the deck stacked against him. And that's not up for debate. Yet the reality of it is that Josh Allen is a top 5 QB in the NFL this year with a rushing offense that netted two more yards per game than ours, and better receivers. Darnold was pretty much the worst quarterback in the league this year sans Haskins that would qualify with a bad supporting cast. Your arguments are based on speculative circumstances that will never be reality. Would Tim Couch have been a better quarterback if the Browns drafted Donovan McNabb? Obviously. But that's not what happened and we don't operate in a world of speculation. We operate in a world of fact based on what we see not what we would've been if things were different.
So he's better running, he's better in the pocket and he's better out of the pocket. He was a top 5 quarterback in the NFL. BUT WHAT IF THINGS WERE DIFFERENT???????
LOL, seriously. I'd take Gore's opinion of Sam Darnold and our offense over 90% of GMs, 100% of the experts on TheGangGreen.com, and 110% of the talking heads at ESPN.
Which means Josh Allen was the WORST Qb last year by those statistics. So why the sudden jump?! And if he can make a sudden jump. maybe because they added a 1000yd + WR receiver to the mix? You can't deny cause and effect.
Players getting better from year one to year two and year two to year three isn't a new occurrence. Darnold was flat from year one to year two and massively regressed from year two to year three. Diggs helped the massive jump. His running game also regressed while his offensive line play stayed flat. You're unwilling to acknowledge that one player got much better on their own and another player didn't. One receiver doesn't account for a +17 touchdown differential by themselves either. Diggs had his best season ever with Allen in nearly every statistical category. That has nothing to do with Allen's upward progression? C'mon dude. Get with reality.
The same Frank Gore that scored a 6 on his wonderlic and has a learning disability? Taking nothing away from the man as a tremendous football player, a great guy and certainly someone who exceeded life expectations. But let's not act like he's an all-time great football mind or something (suddenly) because he likes Sam Darnold.
I think Diggs had more receptions and more yards than our entire WR core plus TE and RBs combined. A true #1 WR can make a TON of difference for ANY qb.
Diggs already had multiple 1000 yd seasons. You're acting like Allen made Diggs into something he wasn't before. He already was balling before Allen ever threw a pass in the NFL. Reality? You're on an entire other planet now. Name me one player the Jets brought in that did 1000+ yds before the Jets. Baker and Allen are throwing to guys that had 1000+ yds BEFORE them. That's the difference. It's clear as day. I can't believe you guys continue to discount this fact, and then talk up stats.
Darnold is ruined.. he holds on to the ball way to long, has trouble reading underneath zone coverage with a 4 man rush and most of all he plays hero ball all the time.. unfortunately he’s a bust just like Winston/Mariota/Trubisky. It happens.. I mean they traded up for Trubisky and left Watson and Mahomes on the table... looks like we left Allen on the table and lost a few 2nd rounders too.. Thanks Mac u fuck! It’s just time to move on but if we don’t just like the Bears didn’t last year we won’t get anything for him after next year and just release him just like Winston, Mariota, Trubisky (soon). In football it happens...
Allen wouldn’t have thrived on our team without a legit WR. I definitely agree Darnold could be virtually ruined, and the underneath zone coverage flaw is quite shocking. Like he doesn't see it. Most of the INTs this year were him not reading moving off the slot corner / deep drag route from a Cover 2 Zone. It's almost the identical kind of coverage that INT occurs within. I'm only going to give him a pass because of his youth, Gase, and really they tried to run a traditional drop back system without the key components.
He’s saying that Diggs is not solely responsible for Allen’s progress, Allen is. Diggs certainly helps. John Brown had a career year with josh Allen. Cole Beasley had a career year with josh Allen, then topped it this year. Diggs had a career year with josh Allen. Knox scored more touchdowns last year than all of his college career combined. Everyone has had a career year playing with Allen. At some point you have to recognize the common denominator.
Again, you guys keep agreeing making my point. Allen has more talent around him. And yes players perform better, when there are multiple weapons to defend. Allen has an easier job finding open wide receivers than Darnold. can we at least agree to that? I mean come on you spelled it out. Diggs, Beasley, and Brown. Darnold would swap that core in a heartbeat with ours. and Gore just co-signed it.
And you're a prisoner of the moment to think Allen is the only QB to help elevate these guys game. Beasley became a feature receiver with the Bills. He was a 3rd/4th guy on the Cowboys. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, and Brown was injury-ridden before he finally got healthy.
Lol.....pitch and catch TD. It was a missed tackle on a 7 yard gain where Edmunds hurt his shoulder.....what are you watching?!?!
Between stocking up its collection of picks the year before trading up for Allen, the way it allocated picks and cap space afterwards, and the way Daboll has tailored the offense to Allen's strengths, the Bills are an example of how to give a young QB the best opportunity to succeed. The Jets are an example of everything you don't do if you want to give a young QB the best opportunity to succeed.
I disagree. I don't know how you can say that with certainty either. I would say that it would be a bigger difference. Sam would do better on the Bills than Allen has and Allen would do worse on the Jets than Sam has. That is just my personal opinion from watching them both come out of college. Again, we will never know.
Darnold audibles to a designed quick out to Crowder with everyone blocking. Crowder is the only person that runs a route. The play was switched to counter the safety blitz by #24 on the right side. Yeah they missed tackles, but that because the WRs were blocking them from the jump and trailing LB was already beat. if everyone blocks their man...that's a long YAC play every time. only CB and deep safety to block. yeah the trailing LB missed the tackle, but that's from behind he's already beat. he's really not in a great position to make the tackle. 50/50 you run that play he misses the tackle...probably less.
it’s funny when people try too hard to make you think they know what they’re talking about. Edmunds missed a tackle all while playing with a bad shoulder that he re-injured during that tackle attempt. A healthy Edmunds makes that tackle 10/10 times for a stop on 3rd down. There was nothing special on that play that Darnold did.....it was a missed tackle period.......you reached all the way from Buffalo to MetLife stadium on this one.
