I see the 49ers as a better bet to get him. They're literally a QB away from contending for the Lombardy Trophy.
AVENGE ME!!!!! - Carl. seriously though, if the JETS have to give up a bunch of picks to get him, it'll be back to DeShaun being on another shitty team
#2 overall Seattle #1 2021 Seattle #1 2022 Seattle #3 202X (not sure what year we own) This is a no brainer. You will still have plenty of money. You will get a 2 back for Sam so you will still have 2 2's this year and you will have a full draft of picks next year. NO BRAINER
Difference is Texans are in cap he’ll and don’t have the resources to turn around the team. The Jets are widely considered to be in a good position to turn it around, as long as the right decisions are made.
I just can't see it being down for less than 3 1's. Like you said above, they don't have the funds or assets to build around Watson. They need a complete overhaul. The NYJ or Miami are really the only 2 teams who can give up assets and have the capital to keep building.
Interesting proposition. Would the folks here do Watson for Fields straight up? Fields is clearly elite talent, #1 overall in most drafts, but Watson is still just 25 (3.5 years older than Fields), 3 time Pro Bowler, 105 (!!!) career rating, coming off 112 this year and leading the League in passing yards, while still getting about 450 on the ground a year. Fields is on a rookie deal, while Watson's contract break down Jets will be responsible for is as follows (not terrible as Houston already paid out sign in bonus, and 2021 is 5th year on a rookie scale for 12th pick): 2021: 10.5 mil 2022: 35 2023: 37 2024: 32 2025: 32 EDIT: Let's throw in Sam for good measure in case they want to cash in on #2 pick, and get Sam as a QB.
Texans cap is more like not too good, not really hell. The main issue is they have no draft picks. Theoretically the incoming draft picks for Watson could help that a lot. If I were them I still would not pull the trigger, but he could force their hand if he really wanted. What I think, honestly, is that another team with a HC vacancy put this out there to make the Texans job less appealing.
Wouldn’t do that trade. Essentially the Jets would be in the same situation as Houston. A horrible roster with no first round picks in 2021.
I would do the deal if it's for #2 this year and #1 next year + Sam. Don't want to go much deeper with picks because we need to fill out this roster.
I don't know why this board cannot comprehend that we need to rebuild our 2-14 team. We continually fall back into thinking a QB will solve our problems. Watson solved the Texans problem this season to the tune of 4-12, the third worse record in the league, one spot ahead of Sam Darnold. JD understands that our path to success is through young talent / draft picks.
No doubt they could get more picks from other teams, but do those picks get them a QB prospect like Fields? Take the Jags for instance. Would Houston trade Watson straight up for Lawrence? I’d say very likely, even if they could get more picks, because Lawrence is too good a prospect to pass up. If they are anywhere near as high on Fields it may not take much more.
