Would be interested to know. I can't seem to find a website or source for this guy, but there's this

Also threw from a non-clean pocket the highest rate in the league.

I think taking Sewell and letting Sam play out his contract next year makes sense. We build the roster out more this offseason and make it such that Sam has no excuses. If he plays well, he earns a contract. If he doesn't, we move on and the next QB jumps into an ideal situation, whether that be a draft pick or a stopgap that holds the fort till we draft a guy.

His expected points added from a clean pocket is actually negative, the only starter with a negative EPA and is worse than Wentz.

Completion percentage is a garbage stat when you’re checking the ball down nonstop.

Also, Nania has his own website and does film reviews + other analytic stuff. He’s worth a follow on Twitter.

Wow, I had no idea Sewell was so young. He played much of the 2019 season when he won the Outland Trophy at 18 years old. Good lord.

He'll begin his rookie season in the NFL at 20.

scary indeed especially when you watch how dominant he was being so young. It’s not hard to imagine him becoming like Munoz... if the Jets stay at 2, JD will need balls of steel to pass on him for a Qb not named Lawrence.

Still not very good, but much better than what we're seeing in 2020--and higher than Allen, Mayfield, and others.

EPA per play is kind of also a garbage stat when you're checking down constantly since it takes more plays to move the ball down field. It's going to be a bad stat for any QB with no talent at skill positions

Until they reduce the number of offensive linemen, they will remain the heart of an offense. There are five linemen on the field on any play. Almost half of the entire offense. Even a great quarterback can't do much without a solid line, and if he can, he won't do it for long, because he'll get killed back there.

It is not an antiquated notion.

I was all aboard the tackle train last draft but I can't support this one. He looks like a great player but just not a huge need for us. If anything we need a center more that another tackle right now. Idk I think we've cleaned up OL to the point it's not killing us (but still needs improvement). It's time to improve the skill positions.

One thing to remember about Sewell is that he didn't play this year.

It's really hard to maintain your competitive edge when you don't play for a season. Now remember that he has to not only maintain his competitive edge but he has to make the step up to the NFL at the same time.

I think he's a solid pick and I would have no problem if that's the way Douglas decided to go but I would definitely want him in for a major workout before I made that pick. If he said no, well let somebody else take that risk then.

A huge factor in reducing sacks is how quickly the QB gets the ball out. Sacks are just as much a QB stat as an offensive line one. You can definitely cover up a bad OL with a good enough QB.

By that same logic DL are the most important guys on defense which I don't agree with. I think edge DL are among the most important but certainly not interior DL. You can't just lump the entire units together when the edge guys on OL/DL are way more important.

Either way though, the Jets need help on the interior OL more than OT so Sewell is a bad pick. Also I don't see how we'd make it work with Sewell and Becton. One of them would have to voluntarily take a pay cut to play RT.

There are divisional problems with taking Sewell.

If we take him that allows Miami to cash in on the Fields trade.

I'm an o-line guy as much as anyone but we cant allow that kind of value to fall to Miami when tackle is not our main concern.

This is a "chess move" aspect of thinking. Good point!

This is not meant in any way to be a shot at Sewell, but if there's a massive cash in there for Fields, I think the Jets take it rather than Sewell. If they take Sewell, it tells me the massive offer for a QB doesn't exist.

I never said I wanted Sewell. I think taking a tackle No. 2 would be too much. I objected to the idea that the offensive line wasn't still the beating heart of an offense, because it is. You can cover up bad o-line play for a while with a QB who gets the ball out of his hands quickly. But the defense is going to tighten up and tighten up and sit on those short routes and strangle your offense to death if you can't take the deep shots. And when you do, and that bad o-line lets defenders through, your great QB is toast. We've seen it happen so many times.

A great offensive line does not guarantee your QB will not get hurt, but it opens up your offense and allows you to use the full playbook rather than endless quick-hitters.

If the Jets don't love a QB at 2, I hope they trade down for extra picks, get interior linemen, a receiver, a running back, and build an offense that can actually scare someone other than Jets fans.

    McShay just released his mock.

Has us taking Sewell at 2 and he was just on the morning radio show on ESPN radio and said that JD would take TL if he was there, but since he most likely won't we will either take Sewell or 100% look to trade. He says he knows JD really well and knows that JD learned from Ozzie in Balt and that maximizing picks is what he learned and will want to do come April.

Oof if so. I'm generally a big fan of trading down but when you need a QB this badly...

There are more QB's in the draft. I expect the odds are really good we take a QB end of the 1st/top of the 2nd. The value there will be really high for the pick in question and the risk will be minimal.

You can make a really good argument that if the Jets can trade the #2 down they will get a great WR prospect on the trade down and still have Seattle's pick and the #34 to go QB hunting.

I'd rather they got Lawrence on the #2 somehow but if not the next real value point for QB's is going to one of the 2nd tier guys in the 20's/early 30's.
