Because he can't beat Ohio State is a huuuggge deal to lot of alumni. Thus, unhappy. To outsiders like myself, its insane to suggest he hasn't been a good coach there ( or anywhere else he's been).

When I said that I didn't think he had been that "good" I was looking at it like a UM alumni. I know that beating OSU is HUGE for them. Not only has he not beaten OSU, but he has lost by scores like 62-39, 56-27, and 42-13. He also is 3-3 against their in-state rival, Michigan St.

In Harbaugh's 6 seasons at UM he's 49-22. That's obviously good by any standard. That said, he has won one bowl game out of 5 and hasn't beaten OSU. They were 2-4 this year, including losses to Mich. St., Penn St., Wisconsin, and Indiana.

Nope no a thousand times on Harbaugh. He has stunk it up at Michigan usually you want a recently successful coach coming to your team. Hiring Harbaugh would be a hard sell to I hope the owner, fans, media. Say he wins alot of games the first season. Then his ego kicks in and he becomes difficult again.to deal with. I know and hope Douglas sees that.

He took over a team that was 5-7, and previously was ranked only two times in 7 years after Lloyd Carr left with 4 Bowl invitations in 7 years.

He led them to the following results: 10:3 (#12 rank, Won Citrus Bowl), 10:3 (#10, Lost Orange Bowl), 8:5 (unranked, Lost Outback Bowl), 10:3 (#14, Lost Peach Bowl), 9:4 (#18, Lost Citrus Bowl), 2:4 this year. Are these results stellar? No, but it is a definite improvement to where the program was before he took over. I would say he didn't do a great job recruiting if anything, but again results are solid, comparative to there the program was before him. He certainly hasn't "stunk it up".

And I don't want to discount his other accomplishment in San Diego, Stanford, and 49ers. Additionally, he is a former QB himself, QB coach, which is important in our situation. The guy just hasn't lost all that much at any level. If JD is comfortable with him and he really wants it, I don't see how we can pass this up. And most importantly he has endorsement from the starting running back of the Jets! :)

He did an amazing job at Stanford and in San Francisco. His stop at Michigan has been a failure thus far. His recruiting has been very good in Ann Arbor. His coaching and coordinator hires have not.

His recruiting has been better but this was the first year he's started a QB he's recruited without a full off-season to get him ready. Not a good excuse but I'd expect that offense will be much better next year. He also can't out recruit Ohio State at all which is a big issue. Don Brown should've been fired after that OSU game last year when he refused to stop playing man against those crossing routes.

I don't waste my time watching the Jets because of their coach. Having lived through some of the worst coaches in NFL history, you tend to become immune to all this hype and nonsense. Same goes for the draft.

I would agree. He's been a good (not great) coach at Michigan. I imagine he'll wait it out for when Fields and the OSU first round picks on offense move on, have a good year, hope to beat Ohio State and then have every available job in the NFL throwing 7-8 years at him next year. He's one of the few coaches that can realistically wait it out rather than selling himself low. Next year he'll have his top recruiting class ever finally matured.

Michigan has consistently recruited at a top 10-15 level under Harbaugh. The fact that he got his doors blown off by a mediocre Wisconsin team at home and could barely beat Rutgers is concerning.

Michigan has had way too many embarrassing moments under Harbaugh. In his big games at UM his team too often doesn’t show up.

They have. No disputing any of that for sure. To be fair to Rutgers - they've been a rough team to play and has really only gotten blown out once by Ohio State.

And as far as recruiting is concerned, they've consistently recruited well and consistently been a top 25 team which is on par with what you'd expect. The bowl games are definitely troubling though. I chalk a little of that up to the fact that he's had garbage quarterback play for most of his tenure. That falls on him though as well.

    Fine by me.

Interested to see if the Jets request an interview with Matt Campbell and if he takes it this go around. I would LOVE that hire

Michigan football is in the same boat as Texas and USC. They should be competing with Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State but they are not. Harbaugh has as many resources available to him as any coach in the country.

You cannot call his tenure at Ann Arbor successful.

He achieved more than previous two coaches though in 7 combined years. Why? Maybe you can't call it a success, but I can't call it failure either when he outperformed two of his predecessors with 49-22 record, taking over a program off a 5-7 season. Add great successes in San Diego and Stanford, amazing record for 49ers, where he did not have to recruit, and we have a guy who has pretty remarkable pedigree, if JD feels he can be a great partner to him.

The Michigan peeps I know personally.

    Love him.

I think you'd be wrong on that front.

Perhaps. Either way, I don't really care as long as he stays at Michigan and doesn't come anywhere near the Jets.

My vote is Matt Campbell. I already liked him, but after listening to him talk after their bowl win, I was beyond impressed...

That said, as of now, it's pretty quiet on the Campbell front. Assuming that doesn't materialize, what would people here think about Marrone now that he's out in Jacksonville??

I've always thought he was a good coach and a good "leader of men"....what he did in Jax was impressive with Bortles.

I don't put much stock into the last few seasons there, he had NOTHING to work with and frankly, for all the talk about the disfunction within our organization, Jacksonville is even worse!!

    Thoughts??

Falcons are interviewing Bowles. If he gets the job, it would continue the streak of 4 coaches in a row to be hired by other teams after getting fired by the Jets. A streak that will likely end with Adam Gase.

After the train wreck with, Gase?

Zero chance Marrone would even get a look from the Jets. No way fans would support that move.
