All print newspapers are bleeding but Newsday is not in dire straits and remains in third place in print circulation in New York behind the Wall Street Journal and the NY Times. Honestly I think the fact that he has Fields lasting until 13 is all the info we need. There is a minuscule chance that happens unless he throws 4 INT's vs Alabama, and even then I'd be shocked. You have to question everything else he thinks when an analyst doesn't even realize that there is a run on QB's every draft.
Half the guys here had Fields miles behind Lawrence this time last week. Some had him out of the first round completely; some wouldn't touch him with a stick. Do the bright lights of one game change that? Lawrence stands alone, but even he comes with no guarantee. I guess that's why they play the games. And run the draft.

No, he was still a top 5 pick for most, but he did have a couple of bad games, particularly again Northwestern, which were out of character, and raised concerns if he somehow regressed. That put him behind Lawrence, who had multiple seasons of good production, even though he also had some bad games in his career. However, Fields came out in the most important game of the season and reminded everyone he was a different kind of beast by setting Sugar ball record, while playing hurt most of the game, yet still making NFL throws time after time. So yeah, it was a short season, and a couple of games or a historic performance at a big stage does make a big difference. When you put it all together though, entire body of work, Fields is right there next to Lawrence as elite prospect. He is not #13, and he will not even last until #5 either.
The more I think about this, the more I really hope we don't trade out of the 2nd pick. We will either land Lawrence or Fields and something tells me Fields is gonna be big time in this league.
I get the Daily News and the Post every morning at work because the delivery guy gives what he has left over to the Gatehouse on his way out after making his deliveries. Both rags are a couple of pages longer than the Norwalk and New Milford papers at this point. Basically they're 15 pages of content and 15 pages of ads and that's it. I give them 2-3 years more of this before they're both reduced to ad circular status. Every now and then the Times or the WSJ is included in the delivery. Those are still real newspapers. Everything else is on life support as their readership ages out and passes away.
Yes but these games are HARD to play. It’s high stakes poker and you need to know your opponents. But let’s say we do swap with CIN. Let’s say they take the OT. You have MIA there with no OT worth it....do they REALLY like Tua or do they reset? You wouldn’t think so, but the Cards did exactly that. Or more likely, they trade out to a team that wants Fields...they were very active. Then you have ATL who may take Wilson or may not and stay with Ryan. But if they do then we’ve lost out on both Fields and Wilson. Too risky for me. I’m of the mind that if there is a QB you love, you stay out and take him. No fuss. No worry. now if JD wants to roll with Sam, then I probably would trade out for the best deal I could get.

Give Murdoch credit: he's subsidized The Post for 40+ years. Still a world-class Sports section. Still got most of their talent (I miss Peter Vecsey ). NYDN is a shell of itself. NOBODY there. Bill Madden writes a Sunday piece for them probably to help youngsters there keep their jobs.
If JD rolls with Sam, I won't care what they do in the draft, because I'll be done with the Jets. I'll just follow Aaron Rodgers the rest of his career.
Yeah, and Monday is the smallest paper of the week and Newsday today is 64 pages. I'm a dinosaur - I still read one to three papers a day page by page as well as online and there's not a day that I don't see something in print that was hidden away somewhere in the online version that I never would have seen if I only read it electronically.
I had a pretty good gig at a famous national newspaper for 7 years (no I'm not a writer). I know firsthand how things are looking, local community papers may be doing better then the bigger ones.. I was was making my company a ton of money until clients just decided to stop spending the same as they did 20 years ago. Those were the days for papers!
