So you made this point off of one game? Nobody was talking about Fields all year. So its just this one game and you're ready to draft him #1 at spot 2. If Fields is so awesome the Jags should take him.
No and you can read my posts from before the game...Fields and Lawrence were the 2 best prospects before the season and they still are
The draft doesn't work like this in reality. If you don't take him at #2 he will be gone by the time you're up to pick. If you want him you have to draft him. Teams reach for QB's every single year. You either play the game and hope you land one or your ceiling as a team is the 2019 49ers - and that's if you get everything but the QB right. Good coaches, talented players everywhere but QB, etc.
I get this logic, but honestly 35% is a pretty damn good chance to get a QB who works out. This also doesn't consider that QB is easily twice as important as any other position and probably more like 3-4 times as important.
I think Fields has a strong arm but if we're being honest this pass was definitely under thrown. In the NFL that's probably incomplete or intercepted. His other deep pass was similarly under thrown.
The high failure chance comes from a bunch of factors. Most of them are largely out of the team's control. The one factor that is not is the quality of the roster around the QB. With the #2 the Jets have one option that they control: they control how much potential value they get out of that pick. Trading it for a bunch of high picks should be a no-brainer for a last place team on a mission. Trying for the 35% shot at a great QB assumes that they can do that and also build a strong roster, which is definitely a question mark given that they have probably one of the two worst rosters in the NFL today. I'm not saying that Douglas won't ultimately decide that he likes Fields enough to take him on the #2 but that move would be a huge gamble given what we know. Trading the pick down and then taking another QB later on is more likely to give the Jets championship depth down the road instead of another young QB in over his head without enough help around him.
Well, I hope your wrong as I want nothing to do with Fields. I hope Jacksonville panics and takes him. That would provide the Jets with great options. Trade down, take Lawrence or take Wilson .
Quick turnarounds happen in the NFL. The Jets could theoretically be a playoff team next season with the "right" moves. And when you need a QB, you don't play cute. If you like one at #2, that should be the pick. The jets have enough assets over the next couple of years (picks and cap space) to support a newly drafted QB.
Thanks for the response. I still think I'd rather take a QB and build specifically around his skillset but you always make good, coherent arguments that make me think.
You’re nuts if you think that’s underthrown. The DB literally dove for the ball lol it was also over 60 yards! I think that was the pass PFF has as the longest pass of the year (NFL included) the hell is wrong with you man
The WR didn’t have to slow down, it hit him on the right shoulder. He’s also really fucking fast and the ball traveled at the longest distance recorded this year.
His right shoulder was his trailing shoulder. Also the length of the pass is irrelevant. Under thrown/over thrown is all relative to ball placement and where the receiver is. A 10 yard pass can be under thrown just like a 50 yard pass can be. Ideally you want to deliver that pass so it drops into the receivers arms while they're out in front of him. It's often inconsequential in college but little things like that do matter in the NFL where windows are much tighter and every DB is faster. Again, I think Fields has a good arm. But there's no doubt those deep balls were slightly under thrown.
How is the length of the pass irrelevant if you're talking about his arm strength? If he threw the ball from the 1 yard line and a dude had to slow down at the opposing 5 yard line, is that an underthrown ball because he had to slow down?
What do you not understand about the difference between arm strength and over/under throws? Arm strength is velocity and max distance, over/under throws are more related to accuracy. And yes, if your WR has to slow down that is an under throw. That's almost the exact definition of one. Ideally you hit him in stride. Do you have a reading comprehension issue?
You're taking out the context which is asinine. Mahomes threw a bomb 70 yards. It's not an underthrown ball if it's thrown THAT DEEP. The fact that you think a ball thrown nearly 99 yards (in my hypothetical sitaution) is underthrown says a lot about your football comprehension. EDIT: Also, "underthrown" isn't accuracy. Over and underthrown balls have to do with arm strength. Ball placement is accuracy. https://www.secsports.com/video/25305405/fields-unloads-long-td-hardman Basically flat footed 60 yards in stride, tf you want man @REVISion
Serious question, if they do trade down, how far back should they move? I don’t think they should trade out of the top ten, I believe they should still make an effort to grab a day one starter instead of just grabbing a ton of players later on in the first round or farther back. My concern again is balance between quantity versus quality, the Steelers never have a ton of draft picks but they hit on their draft picks more than any team that I can remember. It always comes down to hitting on your draft picks not how many you have.
