This is correct. You don't fire a guy and then make him travel back with the team he was fired from. Likely there will be a meeting in the morning with JD and CJ giving him the official news. Could happen sooner, but guys will be cleaning their stuff out tonight so they may not want to embarrass him in front of the players.
It's bad form even in the best of circumstances, and would be a bad look that potential coaching candidates would look at negatively. It's even worse in the middle of a pandemic. As bad as he's been as a HC, you don't strand him somewhere and make him find his own way home in the middle of a pandemic.
And if they did that, I would imagine there would be a lot of quality HC candidates who would be very hesitant about coming to work for a franchise that would fire their HC away from the team facility and then force him to travel by bus back to New Jersey in the middle of a pandemic.
Can’t wait! Worst coach in Jets history! 2021 will start nicely when the axe falls! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do we have no sense of humour left on here, that is a sad state of affairs when it is all we are meant to have left.
Let him clean out his office in Florham Park, have one last meeting with ownership, and allow him to leave with dignity.
Might as well get full “credit” for keeping the coach for the full season and firing him the right way. Despite how poorly the coaches have been recently, you have to credit that the Jets don’t act rashly and fire anyone mid season. Hopefully that will mean something for potential coaching hires.
That is absolutely not to the Jets credit - it is the opposite. He should have been long gone by now and somebody, anybody, who could have given Darnold a game plan to work to his capabilities should have been there to discover if Darnold has anything left. He also should have been resting Gore and testing the new guys instead of chasing a milestone meaningless to the best interests of the team. That's not "rash," that's poor management. I don't want a coach who looks favorably on an organization that accepts incompetence.
