they already had 21 pts and driving before they kicked out Skalski. Also, Fields stopped scrambling after that hit. So we didn’t even get the full Arsenal from him either
This is a strong argument for taking superstars at other positions at 2 and taking sniping shots at QB's later in the 1st round when the value spent is significantly less. If you're going to fail 65-75% of the time no matter what you do it is better to do that on the 14 or the 26 than on the 2.
what’s your rationale/thinking related to why a trade would come that soon. I feel like they tip their hand if they move darnold that soon and feel like they would f themselves royally if they moved the two and then somehow Trevor is available. I feel like the pick gets traded when they are on the clock if at all. Curious as to your thoughts.
I think you trade Darnold if you are drafting a QB. If you are not drafting a QB and not taking a player at #2, then Darnold is staying.
As bad as that Rams win was for the Jets fans (followed by Browns to seal the loss of #1 pick), this game has undone a lot of the damage caused by losing #1 pick. This game gives a real hope again in drafting a legit franchise QB following this terrible year of the tank, something that was taken away a week ago. Comparisons of Fields to Sam Darnold or Sanchez who had one good Bowl game too back in the day are simply not valid. Both of them had only one good year in College. Sam actually regressed in his jr season. None of them could even sniff Fields completion percentage this year of 73+%, TD/TO ratio, level of competition, or have anywhere near his dual threat QB ability, or multiple seasons of high level play. Add to that the fact Fields has had amazing success in HS as well and was a top recruit, which shows the guy has been dominant against top competition for a long time now. In this game Fields just reminded us about the player he has been all along, if you look at his entire body of work, which came into doubt last few weeks after a pair of subpar performances, thinking he may have regressed. He didn't, and he basically restored what people have been saying for a while earlier, it's Lawrence QB1 and Fields QB1A, both rare elite prospects. We now can get top QB talent, and this is extremely exciting again. The talk about "value" of Jets pick going up is irrelevant. The value is being able to get an elite level QB with our #2 pick. Now, let's just hope both declare.
I'm not sure trading Darnold makes sense at this point unless we get a trading partner making a strong offer for him - on the order of a late 1st round pick in 2021 or an unknown 1st in 2022. My argument would be that even if the Jets draft a QB it makes sense to keep Darnold around until late in camp to see how things develop. It's easy to get a 1st round QB to sign their deal and get into camp if the Jets have Darnold already signed for the year, which he is, and reporting to camp on time. Darnold is also rookie yips protection, allowing the Jets to give the rookie a chance to get his feet on the ground. Also the market for Darnold is likely to be better in camp than it is around the draft. Teams are unlikely to make a strong offer for him before the draft has concluded. There are too many unknowns for them as their draft progresses. After the draft things will settle down some and it is possible somebody will conclude that Darnold is worth offering a 2022 1st for at that point. However in camp people will get injured and disappoint - it happens every year. That's when the market for Darnold might really heat up as one or more teams decides he is their best option for the year. It's even possible the Jets will decide that is the case and hold onto him until they have a better grip on what the team looks like next year.
I don't think Sam gets traded while the Jets are on the clock. There's not enough time to work out a deal. So if JD is trading Sam I believe it will happen before the draft, so the other team knows that they don't have to try to draft a QB, and can adjust their draft plans accordingly. I suppose JD could work out a deal in principal with a team prior to the draft that if they don't get the QB they want, they will pull the trigger on the trade, but I think JD would only do that if only one team is interested in Darnold, and their interest is iffy. JD will have a plan well before the draft. I think it is most likely that he will move on from Sam and look to sign a vet FA QB like Tyrod Taylor. If he indeed decides to move on from Sam, I think Sam will be traded prior to the draft, and ideally after FA. That way if JD is unable to sign Taylor or whatever vet FA QB he wants, he could hold onto Sam as insurance. IMO there's no real point in bringing Sam back unless the Jets plan to make a long-term commitment to Sam, and I just can't see JD and the HC basing their career on Sam. With a new HC & OC, and thus a new offense, it makes sense to move on from Sam. They will be busy installing the new offense and won't have time to work on fixing Sam. They need a vet like Taylor that either already knows the basic system due to his experience with a number of teams or can pick it up quickly, so whatever time and energy they need to spend helping develop a QB will be with the rookie and Morgan since they are the future. Sam is the past. Taylor would be the perfect QB because he is a mobile QB who also runs, and the changes in the offense from Taylor to Fields would probably be minimal.
Lmaooooo. Are you SURE you've been watching Justin Fields and not another QB?? Thanks for the laugh, though. Almost made me spit out my water.
Yeah ive been. Im not impressed as easily as you i guess. Hes not an an NFL QB, period. Remember when people actually wanted Geno Smith? Thats the problem with this franchise and fans, you always settle for someone who sucks. Sanchez, Smith, Darnold, Clemens, Sims, McElroy the list goes on of QBs with "potential". Fields isnt a game changer. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
