It’s not that simple though, you never want to give away assets you don’t have to

Jacksonville in my mind wants either Fields or Lawrence and they’re going to end up with one of them, that’s not debatable

If they want Lawrence they’re just going to take him at one. If they want Fields, then they can’t drop below us at 2 overall. So all we have to do is call their bluff and tell them we’re taking whoever you don’t pick at 2 overall. They’re not going to not take one of them so if they were set on Fields they can have him, but not with the added benefit of a bunch of picks from us too

I understand that, but I think Fields may wind up being a better QB in the NFL.

No chance NC. Based on 1 game? I like Fields a lot more today than I did a week ago as well but he’s not the generational talent Lawrence is. Trevor didn’t have his OC calling plays on the sideline which is huge in college football.

Yes, now the wild card is if the Jags new front office and coach try to look smart and give us a shot at Lawrence! Look Fields was awesome yesterday but he’s got a lot of holes in his game. Just watch the Indiana and NW games to see them. Lawrence is the best prospect in a very long time and if it costs a few picks for 15 years of service and a legit chance at Mahomes and KC then we take it. We have too.

The Jets don't have to. This scenario involves the Jaguars wanting Fields. If they want Fields so bad, take him #1 and Lawrence drops to the Jets. Call their bluff. If they take Lawrence, the Jets take Fields. Simple enough. Douglas isn't giving up anything to move up 1 spot, especially not valuable draft picks.

    I will say this:

If the Jags get Ryan Day--that would be an interesting predicament.

It's different passing up on someone you've went to war with and know every facet of their game.

In my mind, if the jags go with Ryan Day you have to think about getting his guy...

No, not based on 1 game. Fields' accuracy is better on throws over 20 yards. Fields is a better runner. Fields may have more leadership and competitive spirit.

48 hrs ago there was hardly anybody on this site that wanted Fields, had him considered the 3rd best qb in the draft. now after a great game have him considered the best player in the draft

you wouldnt have to trade up, just sit pretty at 2 and take which ever QB falls to us. Cant go wrong with either Lawrence or Fields

It isn't just about his great game.

The stats really put an exclamation point on things but the greatness of his game wasn't just the yards or the touchdowns.

It was watching him sit in the pocket rather than bail at the 1st sign of trouble. It was watching him go through progressions. Hit WR's with passes on the sidelines. Place the ball in tight windows with not only velocity but more importantly anticipation. Check down to his RB rather than force a bad throw. Evade the rush and scramble to the sidelines and eventually throw the ball away in order to live to fight another down.

There were alot of questions that he needed to answer and he answered them all. He is not a runner who can throw. He's a legit NFL prospect.

Whether or not JD drafts him will have alot more to do with the reviewing all of his other tape but last night Fields put a great game on tape that makes it easy to envision him running a successful offense on Sundays.

People tend to forget that Lawrence and Fields were 1a and 1b coming out of high school. So Fields didn’t come out of nowhere like a 70th ranked prospect. He was always good.

I hate to degrade him because he's an all time great college coach but something about him just doesn't seem right for the NFL. He makes very emotional decisions. He coaches a good team but his teams and offenses have also always thrived on big special teams plays and momentum. Those aren't easy to come by in the NFL.

I also don't think Meyer is ready to stay at a franchise for 5+ years. He should go to USC, win a NC and go back to Fox for the rest of his life.

since the game last night Field did alot to quiet the media that was comming down hard on him the past few weeks. if you want to evaluate Fields check out the past 2 years and not just the past few games.

Im probably 100% wrong on this but, on the last two bowl games TL did not show me much. I know that is not sufficient to form an opinion, but on both games he did not have the pocket presence nor the ability to feel the pass rush. Too many fumbles, not enough quick reads on defensive blitzes. He looked average even on his throws to me and far from a leader that takes a team on his back. He might be a great QB, but from what I saw he is not near what you call a generational talent. For sure he is no Luck coming out of college. Not close.

The chance that Joe Douglas mortgages the Jets future and moves up one spot for Trevor L is about the same odds of winning the Lottery

Come Jan 11th and maybe OSU stuns the world it will be like New Years all over again for TGG

Yup. And I fully believe if they played a full season this year without the way covid affected it, they would've ended up 1a and 1b in the draft rankings.

Fields's career would've looked just like Lawrence's if he committed somewhere other than Georgia. He ended up behind a CFB veteran in Fromm but he was fully capable of having a similar career and in a normal year likely challenged for the Heisman this year.

I agree with the analysis. I disagree that it answered a lot of questions as I think a lot of people knew the answers before this game. He's had a phenomenal 1.5 years as a starter at Ohio State.

I think to the broader audience it might be true and definitely true to the Jets fan base. But I think he was pretty highly regarded otherwise.
