What makes you think he'd take Fields instead of Lawrence? Even if he was willing, the Jets can't afford to trade up for what it would take to get Lawrence.

I'm not advocating for him, but is the Jets thought Fields was the best choice at QB, Meyer might make sense as HC.

I have a hunch they end up getting Louis Riddick as GM--could be wrong.

Wouldn’t it be something if Urban goes to Jacksonville and drafts Fields over the Lawrence?

Trevor ends up a Jet after all this.

The ultimate irony: Trevor tanked for the Jets tonight.

What makes you think that we can’t afford to trade up for Lawrence? Look if we give up Jamal’s picks plus 2 for him and the Jags like Fields I think a deal easily goes down. However this is all hypothetical as the Jags don’t even have a GM so it’s hard to predict what direction they take.

Ok, what power does Jax have to try and make that trade?

If they truly want Fields then when they offer the trade they will of course preface it by saying the Jets can take anyone but Fields. Jets know they then have Lawrence if they say no, unless Jax trades the pick to another team, but then Jax most probably does not get Fields. If Jax trades out then Jets at the #2 know Jax wants Fields then offers the pick to Jax for some picks depending upon how far back they traded from 1.

I just see no way Jax can even get a 2nd rounder out of the Jets, let alone a 1st and 3rd this year and a 1st next year, to move up one spot.

Yes, the Jets have ample picks to trade up of they wanted but everyone knows Jax wants a QB. If Jax did not want a QB then the whole premise might work but that is not where we are at.

The Jets would be idiots to give Jax even a 7th rounder. If the Jaguars want Fields they have to take him at 1. They can trade below the Jets but we would then just take Fields for ourselves and they would be shit outta luck

I do not believe you can put "you can't draft so-and-so" stipulations into trades.

It's not allowed, like stadium attendance bonuses.

This presumes that everybody in the NFL and outside is still pro-Trevor for #1 and only the Jax are in favor of Fields at #1.

I do not believe that the Khans and their new GM and/or new HC (?) will "rock the boat." Unless 80% or more of opinion makers and talking heads say to take Fields, they will take Trevor.

It's the "safer" pick right now.

Now.....if Fields goes 35 for 47 and 525 yards with 6 TDs against Alabama for the national championship, then we might narrow those odds. But right now, I bet that 95% of opinion makers and talking heads still would take TL as #1.

That margin has to narrow a ton or flip entirely for Jax to consider NOT taking Trevor at #1.

You can't put it in officially but as far as I know teams have been putting the verbal stipulation on trades for a long long time. May not be a league penalty if they don't abide by the agreement but guaranteed they will have a hard time making draft trades in the future.

The way for thr Jags to do it your scenario would be the same way the Chargers did it. The Chargers had Rivers ahead of Eli but they called the Giants bluff and drafted Eli and forced the Giants to draft Rivers then trade.

The number of holes and lack of depth we have. We cannot afford to burn one draft pick moving up. We need more, not less draft picks.

Trade up for Lawrence, and it may take 4-5 years to become truly competitive and challenge for a SB. To be clear, I'm not against trading up for a QB, but that's difficult to do. Most teams will not trade out of a pick unless they already have a great QB. If they do, then they will demand a haul of picks. If the Jets traded up for Lawrence even from #2, Jacksonville would most likely want more than Chicago gave up for Trubisky.

If the Jets stay put and take Fields it may take only 2-3 years to be a playoff team and a serious contender.

Trade down this year for extra picks and not get a QB, it could take 6 years or more to get one and be ready to challenge. Getting the QB is the hardest and most important piece of the puzzle. All these posters saying we can wait and get a QB later and acting like it's so simple to get one, or saying that one has to get "value" for the QB or one shouldn't take him don't have a clue what they're talking about imo. They're operating on the basis of some cockamamie theory or have played too much Madden, and have ignored the reality of the NFL.

If Jax wants any leverage they need to start pretending like they are really high on Wilson too. Then they can drop as far back as # 3 to “get their guy” and that forces the Jets to consider trading to # 1 if they REALLY want Lawrence.

Yeah but I’m cool with Fields myself...I’m not giving an inch here, if the Jags want Fields over Lawrence then take him at one

If you want Lawrence then take him and I’ll gladly take Fields without any extra compensation

No one’s believing that and again if I’m the Jets I call their bluff and say OK then trade down, we’re taking Fields or Lawrence at 2 so good luck

I understand we have holes believe me I get that. I just feel we will not be in this position to draft a stud like Lawrence in a long time. Fields helped us sooo much yesterday that if they want to swap picks for it won’t cost nearly as much. I’d happily give up Jamal for Lawrence and spend a bit more in free agency to fill holes.

If they give us a shot a Lawrence we take it bottom line.
