So we think the 49ers giving two 1s, two 2s, and two 3s for Zach Wilson is realistic? And we'd want more? He is not even predicted to go top 5. If they actually do want him they'd wait to see if he was there around pick 7 and make a deal then. The only option would be for us to leverage them into believing he'll be gone in the top 5, and we wont have that leverage with the #2 pick.
Was actually thinking the same thing as I was watching the game today. Anderson seems like a solid floor as a pro comp (though not nearly as fast as Robby). I know everyone is bigger and faster in the NFL but the smaller frame doesn't always mean injury risk and as far as I know, he has no history. Marvin Harrison played at about the same size and I can see Smith adding another 10-15 pounds in a professional lifting program.
I hope he can stay healthy for his sake. Yes, Marvin Harrison stayed pretty health, but how many years ago was that? I think Smith probably can add that much weight in muscle, but don't know how much of that will be on his legs. If he tries to bulk them up too much, it could adversely affect his quickness and speed. The added weight will help him absorb the pounding he'll take, but I really don't that there's a lot he can do to make his arms and legs bigger. even in a professional lifting program. Tyreek Hill and Anderson have stayed healthy, but that doesn't mean that Smith will. I'd truly be afraid to take him as high as he will go.
I think there are a good amount of teams that will be thinking along the same lines--which is why we probably see Waddle going higher in a lot of mocks. I would not be surprised if Smith is available in the latter half of the first. Probably not as late as we'll draft, but not too far off. Question--do you like the pick if he somehow makes it to #20+ where we'll be drafting?
To be honest, I'd be nervous even taking him there, but would probably have to unless one or more of Waddle, Pitts, or Harris are still there. I'd rather have any one of those three than Smith.
Waddle is the one with an injury now, so I'd be nervous about taking him. Smith stole the show at the Rose Bowl yesterday. I'd take him in a heartbeat. Yes, he is slight of build but so are a lot of receivers in the league. Smith reminds me of Dez Bryant, but everyone says he is a team leader and inspiration. I like this version of the draft because it means we keep Sam as our QB and will have a ton of picks to build around him.
Waddle had a broken ankle. Broken bones heal and usually don't cause any future issues. They even get stronger. I'd have no problems with taking Smith, but would constantly worry that he'd go down with a serious leg injury.
