You're supposed to cover it the 7 days before the game so the field is not pure impassable mud. The NFL should have canceled and moved that game after it was seen what Shula did to that field.
If this is even a question then you dont take him...We cant afford to waste another high pick.I say take the offensive tackle and be done with it.
i go with joe douglas on this one. if he loves one guy, then pick him. if not, trade down for extra picks and pick one of the guys you like. only thing is: you go next year with the qb pick, morgan, and maybe sam. remember when mike shanny picked rg3 in the first round AND cousins in the 4th? the days of wasting $10 million on some over the hill veteran backup qb/mentor should be over! mentoring the qbs is the job of the qb coach! use the $10 million on a wideout, pass rusher, corner , etc.
Yet Sam has never looked the same since ours left, it can be a funny world at times, maybe the Jets should have made him the official QB coach.
Eh for all the crap Jeremy Bates got, I do still think he was a solid QB coach. If you watch some early film of Sam, he was much more decisive and worked through progressions pretty quickly for a rook. This guy is a worthwhile subscribe on YT:
I was talking about McCown, which was the bit I bolded in the quoted post. He said the days have gone since we wasted 10m on an over the hill backup veteran. Nothing to do with Masterbates.
Oh, yeah I got that. Was just saying we had a solid QB coach at the same time as we had McCown so could be more that than losing McCown. Could also be a combination
And where is Jeremy Bates today at the age of 44? Not in the NFL, and nothing on his Wiki page that says he's at a college either. It's almost as if he's taking a walk around the world to find himself.
Not exactly a Jeremy Bates stan lol. Just pointing out he was a solid QB coach. I'd imagine he doesn't have a job because he either doesn't want one or got a pretty bad rap after Bowles et al was fired. Also wouldn't be the first time that he took a lengthy sabbatical
The draft is in April.....we got the picks from Indy in 2018 I believe in mid-to-late February. If we hire a coach by mid-January, that gives him at least 1 month to do all the DD on the prospects and Sam. Plenty of time, IMO. It's not like the draft is the end of January and we need to decide by then.
I disagree. The Shanahan/Cousins pick is a reminder of why you stick to you're board and having faith in your projections. For as much grief as Cousins gets, he clearly would have been a top 10 pick if you re-do that draft.
"A solid QB coach" is an opinion not proven during his time at the Jets or elsewhere in the NFL, or in the NCAA for that matter. That was the hype, not the reality. Perhaps he's better suited to sabbaticals than coaching.
Well, I suppose Bates would have had an input with Sam as OC, in the end, it would have been better for him to remain the QB coach as he was a poor OC imo. It could have been a combination but I wasn't thinking of Bates when I answered the other poster lol
That's why I said we need a HC asap. Mid-January is only 2 weeks from now. If JD truly has a plan then we should have a new HC by then.
Maybe a contract in the $27-$30 MM range gets it done. We also have room for a signing bonus and then the outer years become affordable and voidable. It seems with #1 picks they are either going to get $35 MM or more....or not have their 5th year options excercised and get released. There's no happy medium. You can get caught in that scenario. Bears didn't excercise Trubiskey's 5th year...what if he beats Packers today and gets Bears into playoffs ? You let him walk ?
Who cares where a player is SUPPOSED to go per so called analysts, if he is your franchise QB then drafting 2nd would be the right move. Player ranking are good, but they are subjective and by far not accurate most of time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
