Hell right! Then offer ALL that plus our two Jamal picks plus Sam Darnold to the Jags!

Thanks for posting. I looked over that article and am starting to wonder if maybe I've been underestimating what kind of interest/haul the Jets might get for their #2 pick.

I guess all it takes is a team or two to fall in love with some particular prospect and the Jets are in the drivers seat.

lol that vid was kinda funny and sad at the same time! I'm actually surprised that doesn't happen way more often. That giant trophy that hockey players pass around looks pretty banged up too.

Interesting you should mention the Stanley Cup, which has, indeed, gotten pretty banged up. As the final game winds down you can always expect some shots of a couple of well dressed security guys wearing white gloves poised in the tunnel preparing to wheel it out onto the ice atop its protective case. What you don't see is the tradition in the NHL of each player on the winning team getting to take it home with them over the next month or so. Of course "home" is quite loosely defined and it would be hard to think of something that has not filled Lord Stanley's cup at one time or another. Bar hopping with the sharing of drinking from the cup is just the beginning. It has been dented and dismantled and discarded in a car trunk from time to time - sometimes requiring a bit of a search to find it after an extended night of celebration.

After reading on the QBs and watching highlights on them, I'm starting to lean towards drafting Lance. Ideal scenario would be to trade down if there was a willing team who falls in love for one of the QBs and then pick Lance in later pick, but if there isn't anyone to trade with, just take him @2.

I know Lance most likely isn't ready to start right away so I would like us to sign Fitzpatrick for one more ride with us to groom him for a year just as he has done with Tua at Miami.
Trade Sam to give him a fresh start somewhere else, I think he's done here.

That would be a highly intriguing trade for me. A lot does depend on where the 49ers end up drafting though -- if it's outside the top 10, then I think we lose a chance at any of the top 4 QBs

Here's my very uninformed, armchair QB'ing, football fan take on how this will play out:

    1) JD will take the lead on hiring a new coach...knowing this will likely be his only shot at this, as if it fails he'll be fired in the next 2-3 years, JD will lean on someone he's familiar with and has implicit trust in albeit go through the interview process with several candidates...

    2) New coach (trusted ally) and JD will evaluate Darnold and the non-TL QB's in the draft...

    3) They'll come to the conclusion that aside from TL, there's no one in the draft that's so head and shoulders better than Darnold that makes them want to draft that QB with the #2 pick or with their 1st overall selection whenever that may end up falling ...Not to say they may not see a QB they think might be a bit more talented, just no one clearly more talented and no one they'd label as a slam-dunk franchise QB

    4) They choose to pay/keep Darnold for 2021 as a redo audition year, 2020 was supposed to be his audition year, with the trusted new coach/coaching staff and year two of talent addition by JD

    5) They trade down from #2 with ATL, Carolina or someone that's absolutely smitten with one of these QBs...and history suggests they'll be a few of those teams

    6) Amass more picks for this upcoming draft and for the 2022 (and possibly 2023) drafts....arming them with the potential to maneuver in a future draft to take a QB (not sure why I'm even writing that as I don't think JD is the type to send a haul of picks to someone for a QB, rather, he definitely seems like the type of guy who will swipe a bunch of picks from a team who would like to do that).

    7) Sign a veteran QB to compete with Darnold where the "audition" either goes well and Darnold, with the new CS and additional talent, show's he's someone to invest in further, or we see more of the same and after week 5 or 6, he's replaced by the vet to try and win as many games as possible...if the later, Darnold's out for 2022, team probably ends up with 6 or 7 wins and a new QB is targeted

    8) That new QB is probably someone who JD takes with a non-first round pick in the 2021 draft or one of their cache of picks in the 2022 draft

I don't see anyway that deal would be offered and I also don't think San Francisco would make an irresponsible decision like that. That's a haul for Lawrence anyways, not the consolation prize at #2.

They could draft a quarterback. But that team is also built to win next year if they upgrade their quarterback position. They've been hitting on so many of their draft picks that it wouldn't make sense to mortgage their future for a guy that will probably need a couple years before he's ready to go win playoff games.

I could see them sending picks out for Matt Ryan or Stafford though.

They also were victimized by injuries, getting the majority of their team back healthy next year along with their draft picks in April they will probably be considered dangerous again and a favorite to make SB.

yeah I don't see the reasoning behind that type of haul to give up for the 49rs

Douglas also needs to evaluate potential 2022 QBs. Sam Howell from UNC, Kedon Slovis, Spencer Rattler right now seem like the top options. Perhaps some others will emerge.

Are those guys better prospects than Wilson, Fields, or Lance?

Smart teams like San Francisco don't do stupid things like that trade scenario. I can see the dumbass Redskins doing it though.

Totally agree! Right now, my feeling (which may not be popular, I understand) is:

    Don't trade Sam
Do trade #2 overall for best offer of picks--I keep reading the 49ers will ante up big for Wilson and Bengals will pay big to move up for Sewell
Surround Sam will real talent/playmakers on offense
Do not exercise Sam 2022 option for over $20M
Roll with Sam for 2021--try to resign/franchise if he makes great strides
AND DON'T RESIGN FRANK GORE EVEN AS A BACKUP--I appreciate his career but everybody has a shelf life

Today is a huge day for college football a lot of prospects to watch against stiff competition.

we need Fields to have a big day and show he can be a pro QB so someone trades big for him or the Jets change their opinion of him.

Some potentially great games today with a good bit of NFL caliber talent on the field. Have your notepads handy!
With another chance to see him on the national stage, today is officially "root for Fields" day.

Or we make a sound decision and take Fields.

He's thrown five picks this year not forty. People forget that Trevor Lawrence threw 8 picks in 7 games (6 really considering he played a quarter and a half against lowly Charlotte). He had the same question makes Fields has this year only he had plenty of games to fix himself.

He threw for under 250 yards in 5/6 of those games too.

I think Fields has a big day today honestly. He needs to play his game and stop trying to be superman and shrug two tacklers while throwing a 14 point touchdown pass.

Very possible that this happens. I wouldn't have an issue with any of it.
