Not sure if anybody heard it, but it made me want to puke. I like Bob as a broadcaster, but listening to him do that radio show was tough (I heard it on Michael Kay’s podcast if anyone wants to check it out). I get the guy is paid by the team, but is he also affiliated with Darnold and Gase? “Jets fans are going to get their way on Black Monday” “Jets fans think Gase is 90 percent of the problem but it’s a talent issue” “Sam Darnold still has the DNA of a franchise QB and the Jets should build around him” “It’s going to take years to turn this around” The guy was talking about Darnold and Gase like they were the victims and the fans were misguided. Bob, we watch the games too. The main reason the team stinks is the coach and the quarterback. Next year when they hopefully upgrade both watch how much better the team is. Done
First off, welcome to our board. Second, you are exactly right. Talking heads on media sometimes don't even have a clue. This particular guy probably didn't watch as many Jet games this season as any average Jet fan.
Well he accomplished what he wanted by you running to TGG and starting a thread about it. With that said I don’t know how anyone could watch the Jets and not think the coach is the problem. Yes talent is also an issue but the main issue is the coach. I’m still a Sam supporter and would like to see him with a good coach and more talent around him. No question he has been a bad QB this year though.
What has pissed me off is Jets fans have been vilified throughout this whole process. I am not talking about the few jerks that reached out to players directly on Twitter to harass them. I mean your everyday fan who has been loyal to the team for the past decade who hasn't seen the playoffs once. We felt like we deserved Trevor Lawrence after all the pain we've dealt with and its understandable that we would be upset that players and coaches who won a few meaningless games have taken it away. That is not to say its their fault for winning but more so that this organization put us in position to go 0-13 and have Sam completely regress in the first place. Not to mention feeling embarrassed to be a fan. Do they not want fans coming back to Metlife when its opened back up presumably next year?
I don't believe Bob is paid by the team. He works for ESPN and was chosen by ESPN to broadcast the games. With that being said, Bob is very "pro-Jets" organization type of guy. He refuses to bad mouth anyone on the team, which is just how he chooses to go about his business. I can't stand his Jets takes though.
I don’t know who signs his checks, but the radio broadcast is a partnership between ESPN and the Jets. There one fan that called the radio show to criticize Christopher Johnson and Bob immediately shut him down.
Best thing you could do is turn it off. They're talking heads for a reason. This disgrace of a season ends this weekend. Hopefully Gase's Jets tenure does too.
It’s a talent, coaching, and QB problem Our feature back is Frank Gore, our WRs aren’t that good to begin with and have been hurt most of the season, our oline stinks, we have backups playing linebacker, no pass rusher, no names across the board in the secondary except Maye, Dline is solid and that’s about it He might be wrong about Darnold and not sure what he said about Gase, but the talent isn’t there
The main problem with this franchise is the offense. WR, RB, TE, OL are complimentary pieces. The main cogs in the wheel are OC and QB. If the Jets install a better offensive system and find a more capable QB everyone else will look better as a result.’ Do I think they can be the greatest show on turf? No, but I think there is enough talent to have a top 15-25 offense. It shouldn’t be the worst in the league two years in a row. That to me is on Gase and Darnold.
It’s definitely Christopher Johnson’s fault regarding the whole Mac debacle and hiring Gase, but the problems with the Jets stem from a full decade of ineptitude in acquiring and developing talent. That falls on the shoulders of incompetent GMs such as Tannenbaum (last couple years), Idzik, and Mac.
The problem is every unit is below average....QB, coaching, weapons, and the oline until recently has been bottom of the barrel. Not sure how you expect to see good results when none of the pieces are even average
When I want good, solid opinions about teh Jets, I'll just read the comments here. The big time 'analysts' are paid by the teams and the NFL or by entities that are paid by those other two. I don't expect honest, objective information from them. And I have little or no respect for them because they obviously do possess a lot of knowledge, and yet they choose to withhold it in return for money - essentially they agree to bribery. Screw them.
No doubt the lousy drafting by the team, in particular the GM.s you mention, is a main reason why Jets have been bad for almost a decade. I do have a lot of hope in Joe Douglass as a talent evaluator and hopefully as a coach assessor/hirer. The fact that the Jets have a lot of cap room and lots of good draft pick positions, bodes well for the team, IMO. I also am not giving up yet on Darnold. I have seen some really good things from him that indicates a good level of talent.
Not surprised Bob would say this. Have heard a lot that the Jets (and league in general) are much higher on Darnold than the fans are. The Jets have the worst talent on offense in the entire league. Will be interesting to see just how much Darnold improves next year with more weapons.
See Cowherd's comments on Baker as well - Sunday for Baker has been Darnold's reality for three years.
We will see what a potential Darnold trade will look like. He maybe gone, he may stay. I tend to believe many teams feel they can potentially fix Sam and it’s moreso a coaching and talent issue, which honestly, have been among the worst in the league since Sam has been a Jet.
ok then if he’s their play by play guy he’s being paid by the team, so then it makes sense that he won’t badmouth anything but as a journalist, there’s a way to criticize fairly and professionally without stooping to outright trashing so it’s not wrong to say the Jets ownership has made bad hires over and over. That’s not an opinion only, it’s a fact...proven by the Jets own response to fire those guys. so yeah, it’s a talent issue FOR SURE...and that falls mostly on Idzik and Mac because those players drafted by them should be the core of this team today had they been any good...instead, most of them are backups or out of the league entirely. That’s just facts. but it’s ALSO true that Gase has done a terrible job...the record is what it is...a losing record in two years here after a losing record in several years in Miami. Again, that’s a FACT, not an opinion....his record speaks for itself however you want to review it. Wins/Losses? He sucks. Offense ranking, he’s been at the bottom every year. Those are FACTS. They are not editorial opinions up for debate. same for Darnold with his bottom of the barrel stats....the facts show he’s been a terrible QB. I think this is more open to debate on boards like this because he has played for two terrible coaches, he has had a terrible to mediocre OL in front of him which has led to injuries, and he’s had pretty crappy receivers for most of his games played. And he can’t control those things...shit, he isn’t even allowed to audible at the line for Christ’s sake. So I think it’s a little more grey on him. I don’t think he’s been a good QB, and I don’t know if better coaching could fix that....that’s for JD to decide I guess, but I can see where there’s more room for debate. but with Gase, he can control who he played, he can control the style of offense to run, he can control what players to send packing like he’s done at Miami and here...so I think his body of work is larger and more representative.
