Keep Darnold, trade down for a big haul and give him some weapons and more O line help.

I agree, it's either Wilson or Fields

3 years is enough, new coach, new QB that Douglas and the new coach equally like/respect....I hope the new coach is Robert Saleh

So once again the Jets are between a rock and a hard place... Internally JD will need to figure out who to draft or to keep Sam for another year. This is a tall task as really none of the QB (excluding TL) really jump off the screen to me.

Mac Jones is one of the most underrated QBs coming out this year in my opinion. He has excellent anticipation, good size and a decent arm. Yes, he plays under Saban but I just feel he passes the eye test. The issue is the Trubisky one year wonder rule does apply unfortunately but I do like what I’ve seen this year.

Trask is another prospect that flashes brilliance with his touch passes and abilities to work through reads to find an open receiver. He needs to work on his ability to move safety’s with his eyes and read defences better.

Wilson flashes arm talent and athleticism however makes questionable decisions with the football, plays against mediocre competition and has sub par football instincts. He is the definition of a boom or bust prospect.

Lance is the ultimate boom or bust prospect in the draft. Has all the tangibles and intangibles but plays in division 2 and has so little film to dissect. What I have seen is that he has good instincts but takes off to run too often when he feels pressure.

Fields is a baller no doubt he has good size, athleticism and a strong arm. However, there is something missing from his game and that’s the football IQ a top QBs needs. He just has a tough time reading defensive schemes. If his first read isn’t there he automatically takes off with his feet or gets sacked.

Can Darnold be rebuilt? Jeez that’s a tough one.. I only see Jim Harbaugh being able to do this because he had a body of work doing it with Alex Smith.. it would give us a lot of flexibility in trading down and acquiring more draft capital but it’s risky.

JD has his work cut out for him!

I really don’t envy JD with this decision, it’s one of the tougher decisions for the Jets in recent memory.

I was all for trading Sam for whatever we could get for him If we secured the rights to Lawrence. Now though? I wouldn’t trade him this year and he’d be the starting QB heading into training camp 2021 regardless if we draft one of these QBs or not.

agreed. I drive myself crazy thinking about this. JD is the million dollar man here. All we can do is speculate. I have looked at JDs pst drafts and he’s been all over the place. He’ll go after any position of need and not afraid to trade back.

I just look at the Bills last night. If we gave Sam D Diggs, a good OL, and good D and good HC. I still think he can muster up something. Unless you are one of 4 nfl QBs (brees, Mahomes, etc) it’s not always cut and dry at QB. Look at Chicago now with Mitch, Tua with Miami, etc. My gut tells me to sway back to sticking with Sam.

we will have enough draft capital over the next few years to make a move if needed. We just can’t let Buffalo and Miami build powerhouses and we not.
-Sewell, Jamar Chase, Etienne etc will vastly help a team like us.

It’s crazy to think we went from a pretty easy transition from draft Lawrence and build around him to incredibly difficult. The other issue is we knew we were taking Lawrence at one so it’s easier to get the coaching staff in place. Now who knows.. If you like Wilson let’s say you need to take him 2 overall because hopefully we are hiring a coach that best suits his game and development. Can’t trade back and hope for the best

I picked "Other". I think they keep Darnold and give him a competent CS and more weapons.

But then there are two alternatives, the first is what I prefer, which is they take a QB also, but at this point I'm not sure who. I leaned hard towards Wilson, but am concerned about the shoulder issues. Also, they'll probably have to use the #2 pick on him and that might be a reach given the injury issue and also coming from a less competitive conference. Fields might be a possibility if he really excels in the bowl games, but frankly I doubt it, and I really don't trust OSU QBs. Trask at the end of the first round or beginning of the second could be a possibility, but he's a throwback type QB - not very mobile.

Because none of these options are slam dunks IMO, I can easily see JD just sticking with Darnold, continuing to let Morgan learn and develop, and probably sign another vet to replace Flacco. If Darnold improves as hoped he continues with him going forward, maybe on a reduced, incentive-laden contract. If he struggles again, look for a new QB in FA or the draft in 2022.

I am starting to see a lot of traction for this Wilson kid.

As of today, I do not see him as a good pick at #2. I will wait until after the combine to decide further.

Keep Darnold. The Jets had their opportunity to get Lawrence and blew it. Lawrence is the only QB you draft in the top 5 this year, all other QBs are questionable.

Maybe trade out of #2, pick up capital, and see if Wilson falls into the Jets lap?

Nice. Ya, my only fear is after Trevor Lawrence, there's no slam dunk QB sitting anywhere and Joe Douglas panics and drafts a QB anyways just to draft one (Hackenberg/Bryce Petty). We spend the next 2-3 years 'trying' to develop a new QB who never develops (Daniel Jones effect). Our new HC AND JoeD will get fired if this happens. And if this all happens with Sam Darnold doing good in his 2nd home we'll kick ourselves. So ya, I agree with you, keep Sam on the roster 'just in case'!

Ultimately one of these QBs will rise in the draft process and be the Jets pick at #2. The “contract reset” makes too much sense given where the Jets roster is at.

I could still see the Jets keeping Sam as the “bridge QB”.

Arthur Smith literally just took a Gase casualty and turned him into a dark horse mvp candidate.
Daboll just did with Allen what we needed to do with Sam.
If either of these two were hired and said let’s roll with Sam I can make him worth his draft pick I’d be fine with that.

Trade down with Cincy and then Trey Lance would be ideal

Is anyone else concerned that Wilson looks like he weighs 14 lbs and looks goofy and gay? He doesnt look like an NFL QB to me

Yeah just simply not true...28 TDs and ZERO INTs last year completing 67%, also mobile with a big arm and good size

I will agree with you in regards to Arthur Smith he definitely did a great job with Tannehill. I will say Tannehill was in a different situation then Alex Smith/Harbough was. Tannehill went to a different team and had success in a new environment. Smith got rebuilt on his current team more similar to the situation Darnold is in and this body of work is what makes it different from Arthur Smith/Tannehill rebuild.

Dabol didn’t need to rebuild Allen.. Allen was a stud coming out and needed to be groomed in a system that plays to his strengths. Completely different.

I wish I could shake this Zack Wilson Mitch Trubisky vibe but I can’t, at least at this point.

I’m not completely opposed to drafting one of these QBs but I certainly would keep Darnold and let him start the year with hopefully better coaching and more talent around him.

None of the 2nd tier QB options are ready to start right away anyway.
